By Nikos Mottas

The fireworks have faded. The speeches have ended. Once again, the American ruling class celebrated another Independence Day beneath the familiar banners of liberty, democracy and the "American Dream." Yet beneath the official anniversary lies another America—one that rarely appears in presidential speeches or television retrospectives.

There has always been more than one America.

Show FIFA the Red Card! Infantino, Trump and the Commercialization of Football

By Nikos Mottas

For years, FIFA has insisted that football must remain free from politics. This principle has repeatedly been invoked to sanction supporters over banners and slogans, to warn players against political gestures and to remind national federations that the game must not become a platform for political expression. Yet this proclaimed commitment to keeping politics out of football has proved remarkably selective.

Ten years after Brexit: The false choice between two roads of capital

By Nikos Mottas

Ten years ago, millions of people in Britain went to the polls to decide whether the country should remain in or leave the European Union.

The referendum was hailed as a historic democratic exercise, a choice that would supposedly determine the country's future. Workers were told they had only two options: remain in the EU to safeguard prosperity, democracy and stability, or leave to "take back control," restore national sovereignty and build a better future outside Brussels. In reality, they were offered no real choice at all.

In a statement concerning Prime Minister Keir Starmer's resignation, the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) points out the following:

"Keir Starmer is a symptom of Britain’s political crisis, not its cause. His successor must realise that unless Labour ditches Starmer’s toxic cocktail of austerity, economic insecurity and war, the next political crisis will bring a far-right government to power. Starmer’s resignation less than two years after a general election in which Labour won a parliamentary majority of 174 seats, confirms the failure of his authoritarian New Labour tribute act, and the increasing instability of Britain’s ruling class.

No Greek armed forces mission to the Strait of Hormuz

Before the fragile agreement between the US and Iran has even been signed, the government is already rushing to assert its presence by deploying naval vessels to the Strait of Hormuz. Elon Musk: What kind of system produces a trillionaire?

By Nikos Mottas

"If a man tells you he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?'"

The old remark by Don Marquis has never been more relevant.

Elon Musk has officially become the world's first trillionaire. Predictably, the newspapers, television networks and business magazines are treating it as a historic achievement. A monument to innovation. A triumph of genius. Proof that capitalism rewards talent.

But a trillion dollars is not a measure of talent. It is rather a measure of power.

Analysis of the insurrectionary process in Bolivia: Seigniorial paradox, power bloc, and the potency of the masses

By Camila Azeñas Uzquiano*

In April of 2026, the government of Rodrigo Paz Pereira —inaugurated on November 8, 2025— promulgated Law 1720, which sought to dismantle the constitutional protection of small peasant property in order to favor extractivist large landholdings (latifundio). That law was the spark of an insurrectionary process that, since then, has triggered the deployment of road blockades, an indigenous march from Pando to La Paz, a massive cabildo (popular assembly) in El Alto that shattered any pretense of dialogue with the Executive, and a women's hunger strike picket.

Hall of Shame: The 10 Most Anti-Communist Countries in 2026

By Nikos Mottas

Communism has supposedly been reduced to a relic of the past for more than three decades. Bourgeois politicians, media commentators and professional anti-communists have spent years assuring us that Marxism-Leninism belongs to the past, that socialism was decisively defeated, and that history has already delivered its final verdict. Yet a simple question remains unanswered:

If communism is truly dead, as they claim, why do so many governments continue to fight it so fiercely?
