Euronews, Stalin and the falsification of History

Euronews’ article on the 85th anniversary of the deportation of Soviet Germans is a textbook example of how anti-communist history is framed in contemporary Europe. 

 

The method is simple: place Stalin in the dock, reduce Soviet power to “persecution,” and push the decisive historical fact — Nazi Germany’s war of annihilation against the USSR — into the background. 

 

The ideological slant is obvious from the start. Euronews describes the 1939 Soviet-German non-aggression pact as a period of “close cooperation” (!!) between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

On July 12, 2026, communists and progressive people around the world commemorated the 110th anniversary of the birth of Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko (1916–1974), one of the greatest heroines of the Great Anti-fascist Victory and a symbol of the Soviet people's struggle against nazism-fascism.

Born in the Russian Empire and raised in the Soviet Union, Pavlichenko embodied the values of the socialist state, which opened the doors of education, professional life and military service equally to women and men. 

 

Holocaust Remembrance Day and the erasure of Jewish communist partisans: The case of Leon Tager

Leon Tager, a Bulgarian communist of Jewish origin, was held in a forced labor camp in his homeland until June 24, 1941. Two days after Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union, Tager did not wait for instructions from his party, which he had joined in 1933. He broke into the camp’s storage facilities, stole a backpack filled with explosives, and escaped.

Six days later, a massive explosion was heard, followed by flames engulfing the fuel depots of the Bulgarian port city of Ruse.

It was in the early hours of 1 May 1944 in occupied Athens when one of the most heroic pages of the Greek resistance was written. In retaliation for the killing of a German General, the Nazis proceeded to the mass execution of 200 communists at the eastern district of the Kaisariani. Filthy anticommunist propaganda by Greek state broadcaster ERT denounced by KKE

In a report published today, Rizospastis newspaper (Organ of the CC of the KKE) denounces the screening by the Greek state-owned broadcaster ERT of an anticommunist, antisoviet documentary titled "The day when... Stalin won the war". 

The documentary - an "anticommunist garbage" as Rizospastis calls it- consists of five parts and attempts to reproduce the talks at the Yalta Conference (4-11 February 1945) by using actors.
