German Communist Party backs youth protests against conscription and militarization

The German Communist Party (DKP) and Socialist German Workers’ Youth (SDAJ) have thrown their support behind the latest nationwide school strikes against conscription and militarization in Germany. Ahead of the September 25 mobilizations, the DKP declared: “We stand alongside the young people who resist conscription, militarization and Bundeswehr recruitment in schools”. It called for investment in education and social security instead of military expansion. 

 

Germany: Communist Party member in Leipzig faces job ban over political beliefs

German communist activist Ken Merten is facing what amounts to a professional ban after authorities in Leipzig moved to strip him of the legal “reliability” required to work in the private security sector.

Merten, who works as a security guard and has contributed to left-wing publications including junge Welt and Unsere Zeit, was informed that he no longer met the conditions necessary to continue in the profession.

Germany is witnessing a sharpening campaign of institutional anti-communism. Only days after several German states advanced plans to rename streets honoring Lenin and other revolutionary figures, another incident confirms the trajectory. The GLS Bank has announced it will terminate all accounts of the German Communist Party (DKP) and several of its organizations by 31 December 2025, in what can only be understood as a politically driven act.

 

Communists to run in Karl Marx hometown's election

Trier, Germany's oldest city, is famous for its ancient art treasures and monuments but, most of all, is the birthplace of the greatest philosopher of modern history; Karl Marx. 

More than 200 years since the birth of the father of scientific socialism, candidates from the German Communist Party (DKP) are going to participate in the local city council elections that are due to take place in June 9, 2024. 

Last week, the city's electoral committee confirmed that the DKP Trier had met all the requirements for running for election.
