KKE warns in the European Parliament: Unacceptable U.S. threats over Greenland; EU and NATO complicit

An intervention in the debate on U.S. threats and the escalating rivalry with the EU centered on Greenland was made by the European Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) during the plenary session in Strasbourg. The Party’s MEP, Kostas Papadakis, stated the following in his speech:

“We condemn the unacceptable threats of military intervention by the United States, NATO ally Denmark, and the EU against Greenland, following their military intervention against the people of Venezuela, as well as the threats against the Cuban people and the planned U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran.

 

KKE MEPs denounce anti-Cuba event in the European Parliament: Letter to Roberta Metsola

A protest letter to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, was sent by the European Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) regarding the holding of an event organized by the far-right ECR (European Conservatives and Reformists) entitled “Cuban Mercenaries in the Russian Attack on Ukraine.” 

 

An event openly hostile toward Cuba, at a time when the dangers of imperialist intervention are intensifying.

 

EU backs Czech Republic’s anti-communist crackdown — KKE exposes hypocrisy

A new escalation of the anti-communist offensive in the European Union is underway, this time with the Czech government preparing an operation to further criminalize the dissemination, support and defense of communist ideology — and the EU proving yet again its hypocrisy and tolerance for such reactionary measures. 

The alarming developments were raised in the European Parliament by Kostas Papadakis, MEP of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), who exposed the Czech authorities’ plan to equate communist ideas with so-called “totalitarianism” and to apply harsh criminal sanctions.

Conference of the European Communist Action: The struggle of the working class and its movement is the real catalyst of developments

The European Communist Action (ECA) conference took place on Sunday 16 March in Paris, on the theme: "Conclusions and perspectives for the labour movement in Europe".

The conference, organised two years after the major workers' mobilisations in France, which shook the country and the whole of Europe, aims to exchange the views and experiences of the CPs of ECA the  on the workers' movement in Europe.

Greek communist MEPs call the EU to lift sanctions against earthquake-hit Syria

With a letter addressed to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the MEPs of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Kostas Papadakis and Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos, demand the immediate lift of the embargo against Syria.

#QatarGate: KKE MEP Papadakis blasts the EU as "the womb that gives birth to corruption scandals"

“The EU of capital is the womb that gives birth to corruption” underlined the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) MEP Kostas Papadakis during his intervention at the plenary debate held in Strasbourg concerning the recent EU-Qatar corruption scandal.

Papapakis said that “the womb that gives birth to corruption centered in the European Parliament is the capital's EU itself”, adding that it was on this ground that the financial scandal involving Vice President Eva Kaili and other former and current MEPs took place. 

Event in Brussels: People's housing, a "green" highly expensive commodity in the EU and capitalism

Event titled "People's housing: A "green" highly expensive commodity in the EU and capitalism. The communists proposal for the way out" is organized by the Europarliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) on Monday 5 December, 9:30 am, at the European Parliament (Room ASP1H1) in Brussels. 

The introductory speech will be delivered by the KKE MEP Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos.

World Cup 2022: Workers' deaths in Qatar, a massive labor sacrifice at the altar of monopolies' profitability

On Monday 14 November, the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament discussed the issue of workers' rights ahead of the 2022 World Cup which will take place in Qatar. The discussion was attended by the Qatari Labour Minister Ali Bin Samikh Al Marri.

In his intervention, the MEP of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Kostas Papadakis, pointed out the following: 

KKE MEPs: The European Union encourages and promotes the destruction of Soviet WWII monuments

The MEPs of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounced the destruction of monuments of the great Anti-fascist Victory of the Peoples, which is taking place with the encouragement of the EU, by submitting a Question to the European Commission.

They note that “After the dissolution of the USSR, a plan of destruction and vandalism of monuments commemorating the Great Anti-fascist Victory of the Peoples is being implemented in several EU member states. These provocative actions have multiplied since the imperialist conflict in Ukraine. 

KKE MEP: The Melilla massacre is an example of EU's criminal policy

The EU Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) strongly condemned the criminal policy of the EU and its governments that resulted in the recent tragic massacre of migrants in Melilla. 

 

During a debate in the Committee on Political Liberties (LIBE), in the presence of EU Commissioner Ylva Johannson, KKE MEP Kostas Papadakis made the following intervention:

KKE MEP asks for the release of Yerzhan Yelshibayev, Kazakh political prisoner

With a written question submitted to the EU Foreign Policy High Commissioner Josep Borrell, the European Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) demands the immediate release of political prisoner Yerzhan Yelshibayev who remains detained by the Kazakh authorities. 

 

It is reminded that a similar question, on the same issue, had been submitted by the KKE on September 2020.

KKE in EU Parliament: Question about the targeting of communists by "myrotvorets.center"

With a written question submitted to the EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) brings to the European Parliament the issue of the Ukrainian website “Myrotvorets” (Миротворець) which targets thousands of the people by publishing their personal data (name, photos, postal address, phone numbers, email address).

The site (myrotvorets.center) is online since August 2014 being under the “auspices” of the Ukrainian authorities. Thousands of people who have been identified either by the Ukrainian state or by the site's administrators as “enemies of Ukraine” have been blacklisted and some of them have been subject to murderous actions, threats, blackmails, etc. 

KKE in EU Parliament: Urgent question about the arrest of Kononovich brothers in Ukraine

With a question submitted to the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, the European Parliament Group of the  Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounces the arrest of the two members of the Leninist Communist Youth Union of Ukraine, Mikhail and Aleksander Kononovich (read here) and demands from the EU Commission to express its position on the issue of anti-communist persecutions in the country.

KKE in EU Parliament: Question about the shameful banning of the Romanian Communist Party

On the 21st of December 2021 the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled against the registration of the Romanian Communist Party (RCP) thus adopting the preposterous decision of Romania's national courts according to which “the PCR program and status ignored democratic values and the country's socio-political evolution after 1989” and “allowed totalitarian (sic) and extremist actions that could undermine national security, posed dangers to democratic values”. 

30th anniversary of the dissolution of the USSR: "Socialism remains the future and the only way out for the people"

“Socialism remains the future and the only actual way out for the people” underlined Kostas Papadakis, MEP of the Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ) during his intervention at the debate on the “30th anniversary of the dissolution of the Soviet Union” held in the Plenary Session of the European Parliament.

EU's concern for the rise of far-right extremism and racism is hypocritical, says KKE MEP

KKE MEP denounces EU machinations against Cuba

Once again, the European Union and its mechanisms play a leading role in promotin counterrevolutionary “voices” against Cuba. This time, the anti-Cuban show was staged at the EU Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) under the mantle of “activism” and with the known pretexts of “democracy” and “human rights”.

In his intervention, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) MEP Kostas Papadakis strongly denounced the anti-communist provocations against Cuba. More specifically, the KKE eurodeputy said:

All Greek governments supported the imperialist wars in Afghanistan, says KKE MEP

The hypocrisy of the U.S, NATO and EU, as well as the responsibilities of the Greek governments for the current situation in Afghanistan were highlighted by the Communist Party (KKE) MEP Kostas Papadakis during an interview on “Real FM” radio on Tuesday 24 August.

Papadakis, who is also a member of the Central Committee of the KKE, pointed out that those powers which today present Taliban as potential partners are the same ones which, some years ago, presented them as a threat and used them for reactionary changes against the Afghan people. The KKE MEP said that these powers financed and equipped Taliban in the war against the Soviet Union and the people's revolution in Afghanistan. 

NATO 2030 strategy is a preparation for war, says KKE MEP

The “NATO 2030” strategy is a proof of the fierce competitions between USA-EU with Russia and China, said Communist Party of Greece MEP Kostas Papadakis during a discussion with NATO Under Secretary Mircea Geoană at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.

Papadakis highlighted the leading role of the Greek government in the dangerous plans of NATO and stressed that the people have the power to fight against them, by intensifying the struggle in every country for the disengagement from NATO and EU.
