KKE MEP asks for the release of Yerzhan Yelshibayev, Kazakh political prisoner

With a written question submitted to the EU Foreign Policy High Commissioner Josep Borrell, the European Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) demands the immediate release of political prisoner Yerzhan Yelshibayev who remains detained by the Kazakh authorities. 
 
It is reminded that a similar question, on the same issue, had been submitted by the KKE on September 2020.

Working Class Heroes: KKE event in honor of political prisoners held in Anafi island

In an emotional event held earlier on Saturday 4 July in the Aegean island of Anafi, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) honored the hundreds of communists and other political prisoners who were exiled in the island for several decades throughout the 20th century. 

Paying tribute to all those heroes of the class struggle, the Central Committee of the KKE unveiled a monument created by sculptor Antonis Myrodias.

Free Carmen Villalba! Joint statement by Communist Parties denounces the Paraguayan government

In a joint statement titled "For the validity of the rule of law: freedom for prisoners with completed sentences", Communist and Workers' Parties denounce the illegal detention of Carmen Villalba despite the fact that she has completed all her prison sentences.

The undersigned Communist and Workers Parties denounce the Paraguayan government to the international community for the illegal detention of Carmen Villalba, who is still being held in the Asunción Women's Prison, in Paraguay, despite the effective fulfillment of her sentence.

Makronissos, the “Greek Dachau”: Great event by the KKE in honor of political prisoners

In a deeply emotional event held on Sunday, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) paid tribute to the thousands of communists and other militants-political prisoners who suffered in Greece’s “Dachau” – the concentration camp of the island of Makronissos. 

The Central Committee organized the event on the occasion of the presentation of a monument, created by sculptor Markos Georgilakis, which is dedicated to all those who were imprisoned in Makronissos by the bourgeois state between 1947 and 1974. It was an act of remembrance and honor to those who teached bravery and endurance, despite the unspeakable difficulties they faced.

Transnistria: Solidarity with communist leader Oleg Khorzhan

In a statement issued on January 31st the Communist Party of Ukraine appeals to Communist and Workers' Parties to express their support with Oleg Khorzan, Communist Party leader in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, who has been illegally detained and imprisoned by the authorities.

Victory! Journalist Turgut Kaya will not be extradited to Turkey

After mounting and consistent pressure from the workers-people's movement, parties and organizations, the Greek Ministry of Justice decided today not to extradite journalist and political prisoner Turgut Kaya to Turkey. 

Since the beginning of June, the 45 year-old journalist was on a hunger strike, demonstrating against the decision by the Supreme Courts 6th Section to ask his extradition to Turkey. From her side, the Greek Asylum Committee had granted political asylum to Kaya.

KKE and PAME firmly oppose the extradition of Turgut Kaya to Turkey

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has expressed its firm opposition to the Supreme Court 6th Section's decision regarding the extradition of journalist Turgut Kaya to Turkey. 

According to 902 portal, on Wednesday 11th of July, the member of the Party's Central Committee and MEP Kostas Papadakis met with representatives of the Solidarity Committee for Turgut Kaya, in order to be informed about the condition of his health (Kaya has been on hunger strike for more than 40 days).
