The Erdoğan–Trump meeting in Washington is not a “step toward solutions.” It is the snapshot of a country pushed into a corner, standing at the edge of an abyss.

In the closing months of the Second World War, Greece was on the brink of liberation. Nazi German forces, facing defeat on all fronts, began withdrawing from the country. On September 11th, 2001, the United States experienced a shocking terrorist attack that killed nearly 3,000 people and wounded thousands more. For ordinary working people, it was a moment of profound grief, confusion, and fear.

What was their crime? The fact that they didn't appeal a first instance decision taken by a court which vindicated five municipal workers concerning their right to employment.

For a long time, the government responded to public protests with individual acts of violence - driving vehicles into the crowd, sporadic attacks on activists, etc. We are witnessing the beginning of a new phase in the government's reaction, which is reflected in the brutal and inappropriate use of force against the people who are demanding their basic democratic rights.
On August 13, 2026, it will be a century since the birth of an indispensable man for the history of his country. Heir to the most genuine of revolutionary thought, promoter of socialist society and undisputedly responsible for a small Island, 90 miles from the United States, to have managed to build a society different from the stigmas established for the so-called Third World nations.
We will celebrate his life and main legacy: example. We will return to Fidel with poems, songs and tributes. We will fill public spaces and media with images and activities. But will it be enough?
