Nepal floods: Communist Party of Nepal UML calls for immediate rescue and relief measures

Following the deadly floods and landslides that have struck parts of Nepal, causing loss of life, widespread destruction and placing several communities at continuing risk, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), CPN-UML, has stressed that the state’s foremost responsibility is to protect the lives of citizens affected by the disaster.

At a Secretariat meeting held on Wednesday, the party called on the government to act immediately to safeguard those affected, intensify search and rescue operations for missing persons, relocate people living in high-risk areas and ensure prompt medical treatment for the injured.

Nepal has once again been thrust into turmoil. In September 2025, mass protests driven primarily by young people—the so-called “Gen Z” generation—erupted against corruption, repression, and a political class that has long failed to provide jobs or hope. 

The protests, sparked by unpopular government attempts to regulate and tax digital platforms, left dozens dead after brutal repression, and forced the resignation of the sitting government. An interim administration has been installed to manage the situation and guide the country toward elections.

Nepal's communist Premier K P Sharma Oli wins vote of confidence in Parliament, secures two-thirds majority

Nepal's communist Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, who won a crucial floor test in Parliament on Sunday with more than a two-thirds majority, vowed to begin a "new chapter" in Nepali politics, nearly a week after he was sworn in to lead a coalition government in the politically unstable Himalayan nation.

Oli secured 188 votes in favour of the Vote of Confidence motion tabled by him while 74 votes were cast against him.
