The Socialist State in Latvia: From the revolutionary triumph to the drama of dissolution

 By Vladimir Frolov*

Latvia has a special place in the history of the revolutionary movement and the socialist construction in Russia, during the 20th century. At the end of the 19th century, the rapid development of capitalism was marked in the Governorates of Livonia and Courland, in the Russian Empire (today parts of modern Latvia).

Latvia’s population was only equal to 1.5% of the total population of the Russian Empire, while the 5.5% of the total industrial products were produced in Latvia. 62,300 workers were employed in Latvia’s heavy industry.

Statement of the TKP Organization in Germany on the upcoming German Federal Election (Bundestagswahl) which is due to be held on 23 February 2025:

Once again, the February elections are being presented as the ‘most important’ ones—a narrative designed to obscure the lack of real choice for the working class. Not only German institutions and organisations, but also many who claim to represent the Turkish community in Germany are calling on people to vote together against the AfD and for democracy.

On imperialism and the current situation in the world

By Andreas Sörensen

The development in the world the past year has sharpened the contradictions inherent within the imperialist system and has thus also accentuated the need for a deepened analysis of the mechanisms that push the development forward.

To be able to do this, this presentation will focus on the analysis presented by Lenin in his pamphlet Imperialism as the Highest Stage of Capitalism. Here, he explored the mechanisms that decided and decide the development of international capitalism. In the course of this article, the mechanisms and features that he identified will be discussed, and light will be shed on problematic approaches that readers take to Lenin.

Section 1: Brief Overview of the Labor Movement in the Americas

The class-oriented trade movement in the Americas is largely fractured and disjointed. In the main, there is a very weak true class-based and revolutionary trade unionism, and the lack of their independence as fighting organizations of the working class.

The activity of Syrian communists goes back to the 1920s with the foundation of the Syrian-Lebanese Communist Party in 1924. Despite its internal splits and divisions, the Communist Party had always been a progressive and democratic force, struggling for the rights of the Syrian people.

Trump Uses Religion to Defeat Those Who Oppose Him

By Nathan Richardson*

In recent years, the political landscape in the U.S. has seen a marked shift toward religious extremism, particularly among right-wing factions. This shift is exemplified by Trump's rhetoric and policies that cater to evangelical Christians and other conservative religious groups. The embrace of religious nationalism is not merely a cultural phenomenon; it represents a calculated strategy by the Republican Party to consolidate power by appealing to a base that feels increasingly marginalized in a rapidly changing society.

KKE's leader Koutsoumbas on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz by the Red Army

In a statement concerning the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau by the Soviet Red Army in 1945, the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, stresses out:

"The Holocaust of the Jews is a timeless reminder of the true face of the rotten capitalist exploitative system and the criminal nature of Nazism - fascism that it engenders.

Elon Musk and the Dictatorship of the Capital

 By Nikos Mottas

“Fascism can be combated as capitalism alone, as the nakedest, most shameless, most oppressive, and most treacherous form of capitalism. Those who are against Fascism without being against capitalism, who lament over the barbarism that comes out of barbarism, are like people who wish to eat their veal without slaughtering the calf. They are willing to eat the calf, but they dislike the sight of blood”

The KKE condemns the reinstatement of Cuba on the list of “states sponsors of terrorism”

In a statement, the International Relations Section of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemns the reinstatement of Cuba  on the list of “states sponsors of terrorism” by the Trump administration:

"The second Trump administration in the USA, in a shameful action on its very first day in office, has reinstated Cuba on the list of “state sponsors of terrorism”. Equally responsible is the Biden administration which, after keeping Cuba on the list for four years, after maintaining and reinforcing all the measures of the barbaric imperialist blockade, decided hypocritically at the tail end of its term to remove Cuba from the list.

KKE comment on Trump's inauguration

In a comment (here in Greek) regarding Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th U.S President, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out the following:

“The confrontation within the U.S ruling class and circles, which led to the new Trump presidency, has to do mainly with the terms, conditions and alliances through which the US will maintain its primacy in the global imperialist system against its competitors, especially China.

From Hitler to Trump, two art pieces say the truth about capitalists and the state

Here are two editorial art pieces about capitalists and the state. John Heartfield put together a montage in 1932 dramatizing that big capitalists like Fritz Thyssen, owner of United Steelworks, financed the Nazi party. Heartfield was a prolific artist, a lifelong communist, and an early member of the German Communist Party.

Ann Telnaes drew the other cartoon a week ago. Five media billionaires (Post owner Jeff Bezos, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg, Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong, artificial intelligence wheeler-dealer Sam Altman, and the Disney Corporation) offer bags of money to Donald Trump. Telnaes had been a Post editorial-page cartoonist since 2008, but when her editor refused to publish this cartoon, she resigned.

The Crisis of Soviet History of the Stalin Period and What We Should Do About It

Speech by Grover Furr

The history of the first workers’ state, the USSR, during its heroic period, when it was led by Joseph Stalin – that history is withheld from us. It is smothered by lies from dishonest and very influential sources.

How do we know this is so? What is the situation? Who are the liars? Why is this important? Finally, what should we do about it? The future of the world’s working class and the fight for an egalitarian world of what Marxist researcher Charles Andrews has called “No Rich, No Poor,” depends on what we do.

I began to discuss this question in an earlier article titled “Marxists Behaving Badly” which you can download from my Home Page. However, that was a very partial discussion of this enormous challenge to all of us. In my talk today I intend to confront this crisis more directly.

Jihadism, capitalism and neo-Ottomanism

Interview of Kemal Okuyan, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Turkey-TKP given to journalist Marinella Correggia and published on Italian News Portal Il Manifesto with the title of "Jihadism, capitalism and neo-Ottomanism: There is nothing good for the Syrian people" on January 3:

– About this sudden change in Syria. Turkish Foreign Minister, said he had convinced Russia and Iran in Doha not to intervene on the side of the Syrian government, otherwise it would have been a bloodbath. It means that militarily the Russian and Iranian forces would have to face huge weaponry and mercenaries supplied by forces outside the country. Which ones?

Statement by the Communist Party of Israel on the Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza

Communist Party of Israel & Hadash: The Agreement and Ceasefire are Important and Welcomed, but it cannot be sufficient

We welcome the exchange agreement and ceasefire, despite the deadly stalling that characterizes the right-wing government in Israel.

From day one, we called for an agreement that would bring everyone home—prisoners, abductees, detainees and hostages, Israelis and Palestinians alike. Such an agreement was possible and could have saved the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians and hundreds of Israelis.

Communist Party of Denmark: Hands Off Greenland!

Greenland's dependence on Denmark is the result of colonial subjugation – not a voluntary choice. If Greenland wants to break this dependence, the choice is the Greenlanders'; but Denmark cannot run away from its obligations.

The Arctic, and thus also Greenland, has enormous geostrategic importance, among other things due to its location close to Russia and China. With the melting of the ice in the Arctic, the coveted northern corridor is moving closer to reality. Trade routes are about to change, and thus interest in Greenland and its resources increases. It is increasing as the monopolies' competition for markets globally is intensifying day by day.

On Elon Musk's live chat with the leader of the far-right AfD party

Recently, Alice Weidel, the frontwoman of Germany’s far-right AfD party, was interviewed by tycoon and Trump supporter Elon Musk. In their much-publicized virtual conversation, Weidel blurted out that Hitler was a “communist” and a “socialist” in order to show the distance that supposedly separates her from Nazism, since Hitler was “not a conservative” or “a libertarian” and that her party and she are “exactly the opposite”.

The US, Greenland, Canada, Panama and the Clay Feet of NATO Propaganda

Article originally published in Rizospastis, Organ of the CC of the KKE, on 11/1/2025. Translated by idcommunism.com:

“Delusional,” “clumsy,” “paranoid.” These are just some of the descriptions that accompany the reports about the statements of the newly elected US President, Donald Trump, on Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal.

Last Tuesday, Trump stated in the press conference that he does not rule out the use of military force to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, since - as he said - US control of both these areas is “vital” to American national security.

KKE: In a world on fire, the people must become the protagonists of developments

The first event of the year, the interruption of the flow of Russian gas to the EU via Ukraine, is another episode in the ongoing energy war. “The government is not worried,” the bourgeois staffs keep repeating, while at the same time they talk about “a possible increase in energy prices” and “a blow to the EU’s competitiveness”.

What they mean is that energy poverty and more expensive goods will require people to dig deep into their pockets again.

Born as Yossel Mashel Slovo on 23 May 1926 in Obelai, Lithuania, Slovo’s journey to South Africa at the age of nine marked the beginning of his lifelong commitment to the working class and its struggles. Some clarity on Imperialism today

By Gred Godels

Imperialism is not the creation of any one or of any group of states. It is the product of a particular stage of ripeness in the world development of capital, an innately international condition, an indivisible whole, that is recognizable only in all its relations, and from which no nation can hold aloof at will…

Statement by the European Communist Action:

The European Communist Action salutes the heroic Cuban people and the Communist Party of Cuba on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban revolution, the first socialist revolution in the Americas, which is an inspiration and shining example for the working peoples of the world that, through their struggle, they have the power to overthrow capitalist barbarity.
