Who was the Shah and the house of Pahlavi that was overthrown in 1979?
In the 1930s, he was pro-Nazi and developed special allied relations with Nazi Germany. In 1941, a simultaneous British and Soviet invasion of Iran led to his forced abdication in favor of his son, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. After World War II, and especially after the one organized by the palace and with the support of the USA and the UK, Britain coup that led to the overthrow of Prime Minister Mosaddegh, Iran experienced a long period of rule characterized by the violent suppression of the action of the workers' - people's movement, intense anti-Sovietism, the strong interconnection of the Iranian bourgeoisie and especially the oil companies with American and British monopolies, at the same time as the provocative, in the midst of luxury living of the Shah and his palace. In these conditions of authoritarianism, repression, dictatorial imposition of the interests of the bourgeoisie and its international allies, the USA - Britain, and anti-communism, popular discontent grew, which led to the so-called "Iranian revolution", that is, the popular uprising that overthrew the Shah and which ultimately led to the rule of the Islamists led by Khomeini.
The "heir" to the throne, heir to this bloody tradition of the Shahs of Iran, decades of oppression of the Iranian people, appears today as the "new face" of the "democratic" future in the country. He himself is a US-raised man, having left Iran in 1978, at the age of 17, for military training in the United States, and subsequently studied at various US universities. Today, he is engaged in business, appears as the organizer of a series of opposition initiatives and is associated with a network of Iranian NGOs, supported by the CIA. He is clearly a man of the USA...
We can comment on two things:
Looking through the archive of "Rizospastis", we remembered that in 2001, when the USA decided to start a war in Afghanistan and overthrow the Taliban (which was their own creation, supporting the anti-communist groups of extreme Islamists), they remembered the exiled king of Afghanistan since 1973, 86-year-old Zahir Shah at the time, as a possible leader of the "next day" in Afghanistan. And again, statements upon statements and coverage by the bourgeois media of the USA and the EU.
And that the US imperialist interventions for the "liberation" of countries and peoples are always bringing "progress": In Afghanistan they brought the mullahs, in Iraq ISIS, in Syria Al Nusra, in Iran they plan to bring the Shahs back!
In other respects, they are fighting against obscurantism and regression...
