Britain's communists strongly condemn the racist and Islamophobic attacks by far right thugs

The Communist Party of Britain (CPB) unequivocally condemns the racist and Islamophobic attacks by far right thugs on communities, immigrants and refugees across Britain over the last week.

It is clear that these actions were planned by a range of far-right figureheads, commentators and organisations, amounting to a far right offensive.

KKE on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus

In a declaration "on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus", the Political Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out that "For 50 years, since the Turkish invasion took place, which led to thousands of dead, missing and displaced , as well as the occupation of 37% of Cyprus to date, the KKE insists firmly on condemning it, highlighting the international character of the Cyprus problem, expressing international solidarity with the working class, the popular strata of Cyprus, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites or Latins".

Communist Initiative of Cyprus: 50 years since the twin imperialist crime of 1974

Statement (here in Greek) by the Communist Initiative of Cyprus (CIC) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary since the July 1974 coup d'etat, organized by the Athens' Junta, against the Cypriot government and the subsequent bloody Turkish military invasion which led to the partition of the island:

"50 years have passed since the twin imperialist crime of 1974, but its wounds remain open. Cyprus and its people are still divided because of the Turkish occupation and the ongoing NATO crime. The treasonous coup and the Turkish invasion in July 1974 did not come out of the blue.

“Whoever takes office after 4 July, the ruling capitalist class will remain in power in Britain”, Johnnie Hunter, the Communist Party’s Director of Communications, told the Party’s political committee on 25 June 2024.

“Across the pro-establishment political parties and the state and monopoly media, there is almost total unity on the fundamental questions facing working people: austerity, privatisation, migration, Palestine, Ukraine and growing militarism”, he declared.

British Communist Party announces first candidates for 4 July General Election

The Communist Party of Britain (CPB) has announced its first Westminster parliamentary candidates for the General Election on 4 July 2024. The Party’s Political Committee met on Thursday 23 May and endorsed plans from local CP organisations to fight seats in England, Scotland and Wales, with more candidates to be announced next week.

Candidates so far include former housing and local government worker Lorraine Douglas, who will be challenging ex-Prime Minister Liz Truss in South West Norfolk, and trade union organiser Darren Turner, also an activist in the Toothless in Suffolk campaign. He will be flying the red flag in Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket.

Statement: 50th anniversary of British state terrorism attack upon the Irish people in 1974.

The Communist Party of Ireland/Páirtí Cumannach na hÉireann once again expresses to solidarity with families of the victims of the Dublin-Monaghan bombings in 1974 on this the 50th anniversary of those bombing that murdered 33 and injured 300 of our fellow citizens, leaving many families and individuals scarred for life both emotional and physically.

Cypriot communists protested against foreign military bases and NATO in Nicosia

With slogans like "No to the bases of death and all foreign armies", members and friends of the Cyprus Communist Initiative (CCI) organized on Saturday a demonstration at the United Kingdom High Commission in Nicosia.

The protesters denounced Israel's genocidal crimes against the Palestinian people and the bloodshed in Yemen, also highlighting the involvement of Cyprus through the British bases thus condemning the complicity of yet another Cypriot government. The Communist Initiative also denounced Cyprus' participation in the EU's imperialist military operation in the Red Sea.

KKE condemns US-British air strikes in Yemen

In a statement following the U.S- British air strikes against Houthis in Yemen, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) warns about the risks of a generalized war. More specifically, the statement (here in Greek) reads: 

"The KKE condemns the US and British missile attacks on Yemen which multiply the risks of generalizing the war in the region, with the involvement of other powers, such as Iran.

 NO TO 'FORTRESS BRITAIN' AND 'FORTRESS EUROPE'

'Imperialism’s military interventions and proxy wars are destabilising countries in Asia, Latin America, East and West Africa in an aggressive drive to protect Western economic interests and impose political dominance', Carol Stavris told the Communist Party's political committee on Monday evening (August 14).

She said Niger, whose valuable uranium resources are being exploited by the country's former colonial master to feed France's nuclear power industry, had more than ten million people - almost half Niger's population - living in extreme poverty.

KKE: Pre-election political events in Britain and Ireland

A week ahead of the 25 June parliamentary elections in Greece, the Party Organizations of the KKE in Britain and Ireland proceed to political meetings and gatherings. 
 
It must be noted that in the previous elections, on May 21, the KKE received 10.73% of the votes of the Greeks abroad  (10.70% in Britain), which is more than 3 per cent above its result at the national level (7.23%).

Two meetings are going to take place in England, with key speaker being Dr. Panagiotis Rentzelas, Assistant Professor in Social Psychology and candidate MP in the nationwide ballot list of the KKE. More specifically:

Margaret Thatcher: Symbol of Capitalist Barbarism

The 8th of April marked the 10th death anniversary of the so-called “Iron Lady”, Margaret Thatcher. Following the announcement of her death, on 8 April 2013, spontaneous celebrations erupted in numerous working class neighborhoods throughout Britain

 The fact  that thousands of Britons, old and young, welcomed happily the news of the Iron Lady's death wasn't a coincidence: Throughout her political career Baroness Thatcher made everything in order to establish herself as a fierce enemy of the working class.

'People seeking to build a new life in Britain are being targeted by those who want to divide us', Tony Conway told the Communist Party's political committee on Monday evening (March 27).

'The Tory government at Westminster, the far right and the big business media are using every weapon to stigmatise migrants and asylum seekers instead of addressing the real economic and social problems facing working people and their families', he added.

Communist Party of Ireland: On the "Northern Ireland Protocol" between EU and Britain

In a statement issued on 23 February about the "Northern Ireland Protocol" negotiations - which ended with a deal between Britain and the European Union - the Communist Party of Ireland (Páirtí Cumannach na hÉireann) points out:

"The “Northern Ireland Protocol” negotiations are best characterised as part of the inter-imperialist struggle between the EU and Britain with regard to the latter’s future trading relationship and access to markets within that bloc. They are about securing Britain’s future relationship with the EU and are not about the Irish people north or south of the British imposed border.

KKE: Statement on the Parthenon Sculptures

In a statement issued today, Thursday, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemns the unacceptable comments made by Britain's Culture Minister Michelle Donelan who stated that the Parthenon sculptures “belong in the UK”. Recent reports, both in Greece and abroad, have suggested that the British Museum's chairman George Osborne is close to agreeing a deal with the Greek government.
