The Farce Of the “Restoration of Democracy” in Venezuela

The absurdities used by the government to justify US imperialist intervention in Venezuela are endless. Government officials, without even blushing, claim that “anyone who disagrees with US actions is siding with the dictator Maduro”.

Walking the same path as the representatives of the right-wing ruling party, New Democracy (ND), are figures from other bourgeois, social-democratic forces as well. For example, the former prime minister and former leader of the “left-wing” SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, in his statement on Venezuela, did not hesitate to adopt one of the pretexts of US intervention, that of “democracy”, remarking that it “is also being tested in Venezuela”.

Joint Statement by Communist and Workers’ Parties: Down with the Imperialist boot in Venezuela and Latin America!

Joint Statement by Communist and Workers’ Parties

Down with the Imperialist boot in Venezuela and Latin America!

The undersigned Communist and Workers’ Parties strongly condemn the criminal bombings carried out by the United States against the city of Caracas and other areas of Venezuela in the early hours of 3 January. This military imperialist attack constitutes a serious violation of the sovereignty of an independent state and is directed against the interests of the people of Venezuela and other peoples of the region.

15 Times Fidel Castro Blasted U.S Imperialism

By Nikos Mottas

When U.S President Donald Trump openly threatens Cuba and Latin America—reviving the language of siege, punishment, and imperial entitlement—he is not improvising. He is speaking the native tongue of U.S. imperialism. What appears today as vulgar bravado is, in fact, the unfiltered expression of a system that has always treated the region as a backyard, its peoples as expendable, and sovereignty as a privilege granted only to obedient regimes.

U.S. intervention in Venezuela: A link in the chain of rivalries for primacy in the global imperialist system

Article published in "Rizospastis", Organ of the CC of the KKE, 5 January 2026:

The U.S. intervention in Venezuela constitutes the culmination of a months-long escalation of U.S. aggression against the country and, more broadly, across the entire “theatre” of Latin and Central America.

The intensifying U.S.–China rivalry for primacy within the international imperialist system, the strategic importance of Latin America as a trade corridor and repository of critical raw materials, as well as control over Venezuela as a country endowed with vast natural resources, are the real causes of the intervention—behind the pretexts of “combating drug trafficking” and “restoring democracy.”

Communist Parties from North America, including the United States, Canada and Mexico, have condemned the military attack of the U.S against Venezuela and the kidnapping of the country's President, Nicolas Maduro:

Communist Workers' Platform USA (CWPUSA)

"In the early hours of 3 January, the United States escalated its aggression against Venezuela through bombings in Caracas and other cities and towns. This escalation is the culmination of years of political and economic warfare to strangle Venezuelan workers and people.

The KKE unequivocally condemns the military attack launched at dawn by the United States against Venezuela and its people.

Statement by the Communist Party of Venezuela: No to imperialist occupation, no to internal capitulation!

In a statement, the 18th Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), held in Caracas on 21 December  2025, stresses out:

As 2025 draws to a close, a year marked by the worsening of the national crisis and the dangerous escalation of imperialist aggression, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Venezuela (elected at the 16th National Congress in November 2022) addresses the working class, the Venezuelan people—both within and beyond our borders—and the revolutionary and democratic forces of the world to warn of the magnitude of the threats to our sovereignty and to reaffirm a principled position in the face of the projects that today dispute the destiny of the country.

KKE: On the new National Security Strategy of the USA

On the new National Security Strategy of the USA

The National Security Strategy of the USA, released last week, signals an intensification of competition and an escalation of wars across the globe, further fuelling the conflict with China for supremacy in the international imperialist system.

As the document states, “We want to recruit, train, equip, and field the world’s most powerful, lethal, and technologically advanced military to protect our interests,” as well as “We want to halt and reverse the ongoing damage that foreign actors inflict on the American economy.”

Oscar Figuera: A political proposal is needed that rejects foreign intervention and Maduro’s continuity

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) Oscar Figuera argues that a political option different from those led by Nicolás Maduro, on the one hand, and María Corina Machado, on the other, must be built to give the country possibilities for development with respect for its sovereignty.

As a member of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), he says that respect for human, political, and social rights should not be sacrificed in the name of defending national sovereignty.

Communist Party of Greece condemns scenarios of US imperialist intervention in Venezuela and expresses internationalist solidarity with the Venezuelan people

PRESS OFFICE OF THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF GREECE

In a statement on the threats of US imperialist intervention in Venezuela, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the KKE reports the following:

“The statements by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who announced the launch of a military operation in the Caribbean called Southern Spear, as well as the arrival of the largest US aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, in the region, constitute a sharp escalation of imperialist aggression against Venezuela and other peoples in the region. The fight against drug trafficking is yet another flimsy pretext.

Nobel Peace Prize or "How to Whitewash Imperialism"

By Nikos Mottas

When the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2025 Peace Prize to the US-sponsored Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, Western newspapers chorused their approval. They called her a “beacon of democracy,” a “symbol of peaceful resistance.”

But beneath the chorus of moral self-congratulation lies a century-long truth: the Nobel Peace Prize has never been a neutral honor. It has functioned as an ideological weapon — a ceremonial tool for legitimizing imperialism, sanctifying its agents, and discrediting those who resist it.

The Forgotten Holocaust: 60 Years Since The Massacre of Indonesian Communists

By Nikos Mottas

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Indonesian massacres of 1965–66 — one of the greatest crimes of the 20th century, carried out under the banner of anti-communism.

More than a million communists, workers, peasants, intellectuals, and their families were butchered, while countless others were jailed, tortured, or disappeared.

Imperialism, Multipolarity and Palestine

By Greg Godels

It is a continuing source of frustration that an important segment of the left holds the view that weakening the United States’ long-established grip on the top rungs of the hierarchical system of imperialism is– in itself– an attack on imperialism.

Many of our friends, including those who claim to aim at a socialist future, mistakenly see an erosion in the US position as the imperialist system’s hegemon as necessarily a step guaranteeing a just future, lasting peace, or a step towards socialism.

Nepal’s Turmoil and the Bankruptcy of Reformism: Lessons for Communists

By Nikos Mottas

Nepal has once again been thrust into turmoil. In September 2025, mass protests driven primarily by young people—the so-called “Gen Z” generation—erupted against corruption, repression, and a political class that has long failed to provide jobs or hope.

The protests, sparked by unpopular government attempts to regulate and tax digital platforms, left dozens dead after brutal repression, and forced the resignation of the sitting government. An interim administration has been installed to manage the situation and guide the country toward elections.

September 11th: A Tragedy Exploited by U.S Imperialism

By Nikos Mottas

On September 11th, 2001, the United States experienced a shocking terrorist attack that killed nearly 3,000 people and wounded thousands more. For ordinary working people, it was a moment of profound grief, confusion, and fear.

But for the ruling class of the United States, it became something else: a historic opportunity. The bourgeoisie, armed with state power and guided by the logic of imperialism, turned the tragedy into a justification for war, occupation, and repression.

KKE: Using the “multi-polar world” to whitewash capitalism

Comment by the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit meeting was used to foster new illusions among the peoples. Certain forces see imperialism merely as the “empire” of the USA and on this basis they salute the promotion of new emerging capitalist powers in global affairs, such as the emergence of new inter-state unions (BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Collective Security Treaty Organization, ALBA etc.), which are formed by capitalist states, with an economic–political and military content.

China's Decisive Role in the Defeat of Fascism in WWII: A Response to Taiwan’s Historical Revisionism

By Nikos Mottas

Recently, Taiwan’s government has once again attempted to rewrite the history of the Second World War, claiming that the Communist Party of China (CPC) played no role in the resistance against Japanese imperialism and, by extension, no role in the victory over fascism.

This claim is not only historically inaccurate — it is a deliberate act of political revisionism, intended to deny the legacy of socialist struggle and the contribution of the Chinese people in the 1945 Great Antifascist Victory
