The Epstein scandal is an offspring of capitalism

By Nikos Mottas

The much-publicized Epstein scandal is persistently described as a “dark anomaly,” a moral rupture inside an otherwise functioning system. This description is false. What it conceals is more important than what it reveals. The affair did not expose a deviation from capitalism but one of its normal, if usually less visible, operations. By treating Epstein as an exception, bourgeois discourse shields the system that made him possible.

Excerpt from the Report of the CC of the KKE to the 22nd Congress: On the current imperialist competition and imperialist war

The excerpt is from the Report of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) to the 22nd Congress, which was unanimously approved by its delegates:

Thirty-five years after the counter-revolution, the overthrow of socialism, and the capitalist restoration in the Soviet Union and other socialist states, the KKE continues to struggle steadfastly under adverse conditions marked by an international unfavourable correlation of forces.

Tudeh Party firmly rejects "any foreign intervention in the sovereign affairs of the Iranian people"

The following text is an excerpt from a letter sent by the Tudeh Party to the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) on the occasion of the latter’s 22nd Congress.

In the letter, the Tudeh Party refers to the current situation in Iran and expresses its categorical opposition to any foreign intervention in the internal affairs of the Iranian people, who alone are responsible and sovereign in deciding the future of their homeland:

KKE in EU Parliament: In the face of new threats from the US, we demand: hands off Cuba!

In a statement regarding the new provocative threats of the U.S administration against Cuba, the MEPs of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) stress out:

"Having become emboldened after its imperialist intervention in Venezuela, the Trump administration is now intensifying its aggression against Cuba, with the ridiculous argument that it is "facing aggressive actions." In this context, the US is considering imposing tariffs and sanctions on countries that supply Cuba with oil and other vital commodities, as well as a "naval blockade" of the Island of Revolution.

Why we should defend Cuba at all costs

By Nikos Mottas

The recent escalation of vicious threats and coercive measures against Cuba by the Trump administration marks a new phase in a policy that is neither accidental nor episodic.

The tightening of sanctions, the targeting of fuel supplies, the intensification of financial restrictions, and the open rhetoric of intimidation together constitute a deliberate sharpening of economic warfare against the Cuban people.

Anti-Communism in Iran: From the Pahlavi Dynasty to the Islamic Republic

 By Nikos Mottas

In modern Iranian history, anti-communism has never been an accident or a mere ideological reflex. It has been a permanent weapon of bourgeois state power. Across regimes that appeared to stand at opposite ideological poles — the pro-Western, secular monarchy of the Pahlavi dynasty and the theocratic order established after 1979 — the repression of communists and revolutionary leftists formed a stable axis of continuity. The language of power changed; its class function did not.

Michael Parenti, Marxist political scientist and author, dies aged 92

Michael Parenti, the American Marxist political scientist, author, and lecturer, has died at the age of 92. Parenti was widely known for his sharp critiques of imperialism, capitalism, and corporate power, and for his insistence that politics be examined through the lens of class interests and material conditions.

Over several decades, he wrote influential books such as Democracy for the Few, Inventing Reality, and Blackshirts and Reds, combining academic research with a polemical style aimed at reaching audiences beyond the university. His work challenged dominant narratives on U.S. foreign policy, the role of the media, and the nature of liberal democracy.

Paul Robeson: 50 years since the death of the legendary communist voice

On 23 January 1976, the world lost Paul Robeson — an artist of towering ability and a man of rare moral courage. Fifty years on, Robeson’s life stands as a reminder that art can be a weapon against injustice, and that integrity, once chosen, can be carried through even the harshest storms of repression.

Robeson was many things at once, and all of them exceptional. He was born in 1898 in Princeton, New Jersey, the son of a formerly enslaved father whose life shaped his son’s unbreakable sense of dignity.

Greenland: A "Northern Front" of Inter-Imperialist Rivalry

By Nikos Mottas

The developments surrounding Greenland should not be treated as a diplomatic anomaly or as the product of individual political choices.

They are a concentrated expression of the contemporary phase of imperialism, in which the sharpening competition among capitalist powers drags strategic regions and smaller peoples into conflicts not of their own making.

The mythomaniac Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio, an American of Cuban descent and Secretary of State of the United States, has been characterized throughout his political career by a lack of ethics, corruption scandals, extreme mythomania, far-right positions, and his unhealthy obsession with overthrowing progressive and sovereign nations in Latin America, mainly Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, as well as the current governments of Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.

Under Imperialism, there is no “International Law”

By Nikos Mottas

The widespread claim that recent imperialist bluntness, epitomized by the Trump doctrine, has “destroyed international law” rests on a false premise: that such a law ever existed as a binding, neutral framework above imperialism.

From a Marxist-Leninist standpoint, this belief is not an error of detail but a fundamental ideological illusion. Imperialism has never been restrained by international law. On the contrary, what is called “international law” has always been a secondary product of imperialist relations, tolerated only insofar as it served monopoly interests and discarded whenever it ceased to do so.

KKE: The EU-Mercosur Agreement serves monopolies, not farmers or food security

In a comment on the EU–Mercosur agreement, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) states the following:

“The approval of the ‘free trade’ agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries by the New Democracy government constitutes yet another hostile act against small and struggling farmers, livestock breeders, beekeepers, and fishers—at a time when they are waging a heroic struggle at the roadblocks for their very survival.

The Communist Party of Turkey on the bloodbath in Syria's Aleppo: "This is what you created, it's yours!"

The Farce Of the “Restoration of Democracy” in Venezuela

The absurdities used by the government to justify US imperialist intervention in Venezuela are endless. Government officials, without even blushing, claim that “anyone who disagrees with US actions is siding with the dictator Maduro”.

Walking the same path as the representatives of the right-wing ruling party, New Democracy (ND), are figures from other bourgeois, social-democratic forces as well. For example, the former prime minister and former leader of the “left-wing” SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, in his statement on Venezuela, did not hesitate to adopt one of the pretexts of US intervention, that of “democracy”, remarking that it “is also being tested in Venezuela”.

Kazakhstan's President promises to... "end communism", attacks social rights

In a new anti-communist political statement this week, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, declared a sweeping overhaul of the country’s social benefits system and openly denounced the existence of broad, publicly funded social provisions as tantamount to... “victorious communism” that must end.

In a televised address, Tokayev claimed that Kazakhstan’s free healthcare, wide range of benefits, and state social spending have provoked envy among neighboring states and led to “massive parasitism” by recipients of state support.

The undersigned Communist and Workers’ Parties strongly condemn the criminal bombings carried out by the United States against the city of Caracas and other areas of Venezuela in the early hours of 3 January. 15 Times Fidel Castro Blasted U.S Imperialism

By Nikos Mottas

When U.S President Donald Trump openly threatens Cuba and Latin America—reviving the language of siege, punishment, and imperial entitlement—he is not improvising. He is speaking the native tongue of U.S. imperialism. What appears today as vulgar bravado is, in fact, the unfiltered expression of a system that has always treated the region as a backyard, its peoples as expendable, and sovereignty as a privilege granted only to obedient regimes.

U.S. intervention in Venezuela: A link in the chain of rivalries for primacy in the global imperialist system

Article published in "Rizospastis", Organ of the CC of the KKE, 5 January 2026:

The U.S. intervention in Venezuela constitutes the culmination of a months-long escalation of U.S. aggression against the country and, more broadly, across the entire “theatre” of Latin and Central America.

The intensifying U.S.–China rivalry for primacy within the international imperialist system, the strategic importance of Latin America as a trade corridor and repository of critical raw materials, as well as control over Venezuela as a country endowed with vast natural resources, are the real causes of the intervention—behind the pretexts of “combating drug trafficking” and “restoring democracy.”

SolidNet: Communist and Workers’ Parties on the US imperialist military intervention in Venezuela

Donald Trump, Imperialism’s Gangster-in-Chief

By Nikos Mottas

President Donald Trump did not “go too far” in Venezuela. He acted exactly as the system that produced him demands.

Acting on the crude but deeply rooted imperialist doctrine that power itself is legitimacy, he authorized a military assault and proclaimed the “arrest” of Venezuela’s president — an act that, stripped of euphemisms, amounts to the kidnapping of a sitting head of state.

KKE: Mitsotakis’ statement on the US intervention in Venezuela is cynical, vile, and disgraceful

"Mitsotakis’ statement on the imperialist intervention of the United States in Venezuela is a cynical, vile, and disgraceful intervention for the Greek people, one that surpasses even Trump’s own statements.
