Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) bids farewell to anti-imperialist journalist Walter Martinez

The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) joins in the profound mourning over the passing of journalist, war correspondent, and international analyst Walter Martínez.

"With his departure, we lose a man of firm principles and proven integrity, who devoted his life to the ethical practice of journalism. Walter Martínez knew how to bring peoples closer to events as they unfolded, offering a rigorous, committed, and deeply human perspective on international reality.

His work leaves an indelible mark on critical journalism and on the defense of the peoples’ right to truthful, contextualized information, free from manipulation.

The Political Bureau of the PCV extends a fraternal and solidary embrace, as well as its deepest condolences, to his wife, family members, friends, and colleagues."

Venezuelan journalist, war correspondent, and international analyst, Walter Martínez died on Thursday aged 85. Born in Uruguay in 1941, Martinez was widely known for his long-standing work in critical international journalism. For decades, he hosted the program Dossier, through which he analysed major global political and military developments from a rigorously documented and anti-imperialist perspective. As a war correspondent, he reported from key conflict zones, bringing audiences closer to events as they unfolded and highlighting their human and geopolitical dimensions.
