Cypriot Communists warn against “illusions” following Erhürman’s election in occupied northern Cyprus

The Communist Initiative of Cyprus (Κομμουνιστική Πρωτοβουλία Κύπρου /Kıbrıs Komünist İnisiyatifi) has issued a statement responding to the election of Tufan Erhürman as the new leader in the occupied north, warning that his victory should not be seen as a step toward resolving the Cyprus problem or ending the island’s division.

While many analysts have described Erhürman’s election as an opportunity to restart peace talks, the Communist Initiative describes such expectations as “diplomatic” rather than substantive.

We must defend Venezuela’s sovereignty against U.S Imperialism — But not excuse Maduro’s government

By Nikos Mottas

The renewed U.S. aggression against Venezuela cannot be understood in isolation. It is not simply an episode of Washington’s unilateral hostility against a disobedient government. Rather, it is part of the broader inter-imperialist struggle that defines our epoch — a world order increasingly marked by the fierce rivalry between the U.S.-led imperialist bloc and the rising powers of Russia and China. Venezuela, with its vast oil reserves and strategic position in Latin America, has become a focal point in this global contest for domination, resources, and influence.

Paladins: The gathering of fascists in St. Petersburg and the capitalist logic behind them

An article published on 18 October in Rizospastis, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), reports on a meeting of nationalist, fascist, and neo-Nazi organisations held in St. Petersburg, Russia, on 12 September.

The gathering, operating under the code name “Paladín,” functioned as the founding congress of an entity calling itself the “International Union of Enemies of Globalization” or the “International Union of Sovereign Nations.”

Communist Party of Pakistan: Statement on the escalating Pakistan-Afghanistan confrontation

Statement by the Communist Party of Pakistan on the escalating Pakistan-Afghanistan confrontation:

"We express deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions and cross-border hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Such confrontations neither serve regional peace nor the well-being of the working people of both nations. We firmly believe that both countries sharing deep historical and people’s ties must resolve their differences through dialogue and mutual respect rather than armed confrontation.

A Marxist Critique of Trump’s Knesset Address

When U.S President Donald Trump addressed the Knesset on October 13, he did not merely deliver a diplomatic speech; he performed a spectacle of power designed to reassert U.S. hegemony in the region under the guise of peace.

His words, wrapped in a language of faith and reconciliation, revealed the fundamental logic of imperialism: domination disguised as partnership, subordination repackaged as sovereignty.

Book review: "Revolution" by Kemal Okuyan

By Nevzat Evrim Onal

For quite some time, we have been living in a world that is very difficult to accept for those who want the well- being of humanity. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, there has been no successful revolution and humanity was unable to significantly debilitate the authority of the exploiting rulers anywhere in the world.

On the contrary, that exploitative domination has penetrated every aspect of life; with all its decay and cruelty, it has become more reckless with each passing day in its attack on all the values that give meaning to human existence, and on concrete, physical human lives.

The Voice of the Peoples: Hadash lawmakers Odeh and Cassif defy imperialists in the Knesset

In a defiant act of moral clarity, two members of HadashAyman Odeh and Ofer Cassif — rose in the Knesset today to break the silence, demanding that the United States immediately recognize Palestinian statehood. Their banner, reading simply “Recognize Palestine,” became a weapon in itself — a call to justice echoing through the marble halls of Israel’s legislature.

As President Trump addressed the Knesset, receiving thunderous applause for his hawkish vision, Odeh and Cassif stood.

“On the island of death, the Communists never bowed”: The KKE pays tribute to Gyaros fighters

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) held a powerful and deeply symbolic memorial on the island of Gyaros, known as the “island of death,” where thousands of communists and leftists were imprisoned, tortured, and martyred for their political convictions.

The visit served both as a tribute to those who endured unimaginable suffering and as a reaffirmation of the living continuity of their struggle.

Nobel Peace Prize or "How to Whitewash Imperialism"

By Nikos Mottas

When the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2025 Peace Prize to the US-sponsored Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, Western newspapers chorused their approval. They called her a “beacon of democracy,” a “symbol of peaceful resistance.”

But beneath the chorus of moral self-congratulation lies a century-long truth: the Nobel Peace Prize has never been a neutral honor. It has functioned as an ideological weapon — a ceremonial tool for legitimizing imperialism, sanctifying its agents, and discrediting those who resist it.

Marwan Barghouti must be freed and lead a sovereign and independent Palestinian state

By Nikos Mottas

More than twenty years have passed since Marwan Barghouti, one of Palestine’s most respected national leaders, was seized by Israeli forces and sentenced to life imprisonment.

His “crime” was not terrorism, as Israel’s courts declared — it was daring to represent what every system of oppression fears most: a unifying, legitimate, and popular voice for liberation and peace.

DDR: What was the German Democratic Republic?

October 7 was for four decades the “Republic Day,” the national holiday of the German Democratic Republic (Deutsche Demokratische Republik). The date refers to the official founding moment of the GDR, based on the adoption of its constitution on October 7, 1949.

On the occasion of this day, we present an article by Tibor Zenker, chairman of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA), who examines the essence of the GDR:

Brief History of the Communist Movement in Palestine and Israel

By Nikos Mottas

The communist movement in Palestine and Israel is as old as the twentieth century upheavals that reshaped the Middle East. It is not the story of dominant political forces or large armies, but of a small and persistent current that, for over a century, has tried to carve out a political path distinct from partition, conquest, and exclusion. Palestinian and Israeli communists—Arabs and Jews—built joint organizations, resisted colonialism, opposed military occupation, and spoke for coexistence at moments when the surrounding climate favored division and hostility.

European Communist Action: The war machine of Euro-Atlanticism, NATO and the EU against the peoples

The European Communist Action Parties met via teleconference hosted by Communist Party of Turkey on 28 September 2025 under the title: “The war machine of Euro-Atlanticism, NATO and the EU against the peoples - The communists’ proposal for a way out in conditions of intensifying imperialist competition”.

This meeting took place only days after the 80th United Nations General Assembly, which  showcased the inter-imperialist rivalries, conflicts and regional wars around the world .

KKE demands the immediate release of Greek flotilla activists detained by Israeli forces

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has intensified its actions following the Israeli military’s raid on the Global Sumud Flotilla", a humanitarian mission carrying aid to the besieged people of Gaza.

Among those detained are 27 Greek activists, including one Greek Parliament member, prompting urgent calls from the party for their immediate release and safe return to Greece.

The Communist Party of Israel and Hadash urgently demand an immediate end to the genocidal war against the Palestinian people

In a statement, the Communist Party of Israel (Maki) and Hadash (Democratic Front for Peace and Equality) urgently demand an immediate end to the genocidal war against the Palestinian people:

This includes halting the destruction of the Gaza Strip—its cities, towns, and refugee camps—as well as stopping annexation, settlement expansion, and forced deportations in the occupied West Bank. Every passing minute of this ongoing conflict results in further massacres and displacement that must cease without delay.

Where is China and Russia when Palestine needs them?

By Nikos Mottas

Across the left, there are currents — from communist parties to broader progressive forces — that elevate China and Russia as the “anti-imperialist” counterweight to U.S. hegemony. Within the ideological framework of so-called multipolarity, these states are portrayed as the alternative power bloc that will restrain imperialism and give oppressed nations breathing space.

Yet Palestine exposes this myth. As Gaza burns, Moscow and Beijing issue statements while preserving trade, diplomacy, and investment with Netanyahu Government. Their actions reveal not liberation, but complicity.

KKE condemns the assault of the Israeli Army on Global Sumud Flotilla

In a statement  concerning the attack by Israeli armed forces on “Global Sumud Flotilla,” the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) emphasizes the following:

“The KKE condemns the attack by the Israeli armed forces on the flotilla ‘Global Sumud Flotilla,’ among which is the ship ‘Oxygono’ (Oxygen) of the Greek mission, whose aim is to transport humanitarian aid to the blockaded Gaza.

The Forgotten Holocaust: 60 Years Since The Massacre of Indonesian Communists

By Nikos Mottas

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Indonesian massacres of 1965–66 — one of the greatest crimes of the 20th century, carried out under the banner of anti-communism.

More than a million communists, workers, peasants, intellectuals, and their families were butchered, while countless others were jailed, tortured, or disappeared.

Imperialism, Multipolarity and Palestine

By Greg Godels

It is a continuing source of frustration that an important segment of the left holds the view that weakening the United States’ long-established grip on the top rungs of the hierarchical system of imperialism is– in itself– an attack on imperialism.

Many of our friends, including those who claim to aim at a socialist future, mistakenly see an erosion in the US position as the imperialist system’s hegemon as necessarily a step guaranteeing a just future, lasting peace, or a step towards socialism.

Assata Shakur, Socialism and the Fight for Liberation

Assata Shakur, revolutionary, former Black Liberation Army member, and freedom fighter, passed away on 25 September at the age of 78. She is remembered around the world as a revolutionary, a symbol of resistance against U.S. empire and a voice of uncompromising truth.

Too often, her legacy is reduced to sensationalized FBI narratives or confined to her role in the Black Liberation Army. But Assata was also a sharp political thinker, deeply committed to socialism and the revolutionary transformation of society. Her words cut to the heart of the contradictions of capitalism and pointed toward the collective power of the working class.

Under a sky lit by flares and smoke, the 51st KNE-Odigitis Festival unfolded in Athens' Tritsis Park, drawing tens of thousands of young people and workers.

The park transformed into a crimson citadel of defiance, echoing the Festival’s resounding slogan: “The spark will become a fire — with KKE strong, steadfast in every trial, ready at the call of History, for socialism.” For four days, Tritsis Park became a living “red city.” KNE’s organizations from every region marched in with banners, chants, and raised fists.

Statement of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) on Trump-Erdogan meeting

In a statement concerning yesterday's meeting between Rejep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S President Donald Trump in Washington DC, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) stresses out:

OUR COUNTRY’S INTERESTS WILL NOT BE BEGGED FOR AT THE WHITE HOUSE GATE!

The Erdoğan–Trump meeting in Washington is not a “step toward solutions.” It is the snapshot of a country pushed into a corner, standing at the edge of an abyss.

Palestinian and Israeli Young Communists Unite at KNE Festival: Against War and Occupation

At the 51st KNE–Odigitis Festival, the annual gathering of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) in Athens, the event “With Palestine Toward Freedom” became a powerful declaration of internationalist solidarity.

It was not simply a cultural tribute but a militant denunciation of war, genocide, and imperialism, affirming that true solidarity means exposing and confronting the real guilty parties: the imperialist powers, their governments, and the system of exploitation that sustains them.

The Global Resurgence of Reactionary Conservatism and the Task of Communists

By Nikos Mottas

The contemporary world is defined by the profound contradictions of global capitalism: economic instability, environmental collapse, militarism, and the resurgence of authoritarian and reactionary forces. Across continents, ultra-right currents advance with unprecedented audacity, from Donald Trump and the MAGA movement in the United States, to Viktor Orbán’s “illiberal democracy” in Hungary, Giorgia Meloni’s government in Italy, Javier Milei’s surge in Argentina, the fascist AfD in Germany, and Poland’s newly elected right-wing president.

“Great Joe”: How Joseph Stalin Became the Honorary Chief of Native American Tribes

In an extraordinary and inspiring chapter of World War II history, the leaders of Indigenous nations across the Americas honored Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in 1942 by naming him an honorary chief. This bold gesture reflected their fierce admiration for Stalin’s iron leadership and his unstoppable resistance against the Nazi invaders.

In February 1942, the American Indian Confederation (AIC), uniting 27 powerful tribes from the United States, Canada, and Central America, bestowed upon Stalin the title of “Honorary Chief of All Indian Tribes.” The honor came with a traditional Native American war bonnet, the ultimate symbol of courage, authority, and warrior spirit.

Fidel Castro's Greatest Speech at the United Nations General Assembly in 1979: "I speak on behalf of the..."

Read below the extraordinary address by Comandante Fidel Castro, President of Cuba and President of the Non-Aligned Movement, at the 34th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York City, on 12 October 1979:

"Very esteemed Mr. President; Distinguished Representatives of the world community:

I have not come to speak about Cuba. I do not come into the heart of this Assembly to air a denunciation about the aggressions our small but dignified country has suffered for 20 years. Nor do I come with unnecessary adjectives to wound our powerful neighbors here in their own house.

"Comrades of the Lebanese Communist Party

Israeli Society Must Rise: Ofer Cassif Calls to Resist Fascism and Genocide

In an interview published by Zo HaDerech, Knesset Member Ofer Cassif (Hadash–Communist Party of Israel) issued one of his sharpest denunciations yet of Israel’s political direction. With uncompromising clarity, Cassif accused the government of orchestrating genocide in Gaza, ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, and erecting what he calls a fascist regime within Israel itself.

Far from being isolated crimes or tragic mistakes, he argued, these are the pillars of a calculated plan that has been years in the making—one that aims to secure permanent domination over Palestinians while dismantling democracy for Jews and Arabs alike.

Songs of Resistance Across the Aegean: Communists Honor Mikis Theodorakis at 100

The Aegean reverberated this weekend with the defiant songs of struggle, as communists from Greece and Turkey joined forces in a powerful celebration of the centennial of Mikis Theodorakis

More than a concert, the evening in Izmir (Smyrna) became a living manifesto: a declaration that music and revolution remain inseparable, and that the peoples of the region share a common fight against imperialism, war, and exploitation.

Socialism in One Country and the Founding of the TKP

By Mehmet Kuzulugil

Between the 1923 Turkish Revolution and the Great October Revolution, there is a striking temporal, geographical, and historical overlap.

Anatolia-centered national struggle against the occupation lasted roughly from 1919 to 1922. In a sense, 1923 marks the date when the century-long modernization process and the prolonged bourgeois revolution were consolidated with the Republic.

Nepal’s Turmoil and the Bankruptcy of Reformism: Lessons for Communists

By Nikos Mottas

Nepal has once again been thrust into turmoil. In September 2025, mass protests driven primarily by young people—the so-called “Gen Z” generation—erupted against corruption, repression, and a political class that has long failed to provide jobs or hope.

The protests, sparked by unpopular government attempts to regulate and tax digital platforms, left dozens dead after brutal repression, and forced the resignation of the sitting government. An interim administration has been installed to manage the situation and guide the country toward elections.

Grover Furr: The Betrayal of the Communist Movement in the Soviet Union

Speech by Professor Grover Furr to the Institute for the Critical Study of the Society (ICSS) of Oakland, California, on the subject "The Betrayal of the Communist Movement in the Soviet Union":

Until the collapse of the Soviet Union, communists had always believed that the only way a socialist state could be destroyed was by hostile forces from the outside. Now we know that this was tragically wrong. The Soviet Union was destroyed by betrayal from within.

Venezuela communists condemn US military incursion, call for people's mobilization

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) issued a statement strongly condemning recent U.S. military actions in the Caribbean, denouncing them as acts of aggression aimed at Venezuela and the wider Latin American and Caribbean region. The party warns that these operations, carried out under the guise of anti-drug efforts, threaten national sovereignty and regional stability, while also calling attention to Venezuela’s internal political and social crisis.

The statement (here in Spanish) of the PCV reads:

Communist Party of Britain: Working-class unity is the answer to the far-right surge

The “Unite the Kingdom” march in London on September 13 exposed the scale of the danger facing Britain. Over 100,000 were mobilised under the banner of Tommy Robinson — a convicted criminal and fascist demagogue — waving the Union Jack as cover for racism, division and hate. This was not a harmless “protest,” but the largest fascist mobilisation in Britain in a generation.

The Communist Party of Britain (CPB) has warned for years that such a moment was coming. In a series of statements and Morning Star editorials, the CPB described the event as the largest fascist mobilisation in a generation, claiming it reflects the way economic despair is being channelled into racist and nationalist sentiment.

The 22nd Congress of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) to be held on 29-31 January 2026

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has announced that its 22nd Congress will be held from 29–31 January 2026 in Athens under the slogan: “Strong KKE, stable in every trial, ready for History’s call to Socialism.”

A pre-Congress debate will follow, involving both internal party structures and the youth wing (KNE), as well as public discussion through party publications.

KKE General Secretary: The danger of a generalized imperialist war is growing

Political speeches, discussions, and concerts continue throughout the country as part of the 51st Festival of KNE -“Odigitis”. Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), attended the events of the 51st Festival of KNE -“Odigitis” in Livadia, and made the following statement:

“We are in a very difficult phase as a people and as a country. We need to be as ready and mobilized as possible, because the government is constantly introducing new anti-labour and anti-people measures, starting with this monstrosity of a law that allows a 13-hour working day that will exhaust the people and workers.

Portuguese Communist Party's 49th Avante Festival concludes successfully

After three days of culture, politics, debate and music, the 49th Festa do Avante! concluded last Sunday at Quinta da Atalaia in Amora. The annual event, organised by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), served as both a cultural festival and political forum, drawing thousands from across Portugal and beyond.

Solidarity with Palestine and a strong message of peace dominated much of the programming. The PCP used the festival to voice its opposition to war and its support for people suffering from conflict.

The Battle of Meligalas: Revolutionary Justice Against Collaboration and Fascism

 By Nikos Mottas

In the closing months of the Second World War, Greece was on the brink of liberation. Nazi German forces, facing defeat on all fronts, began withdrawing from the country. Yet in the Peloponnese and other regions, their presence was maintained through the actions of local collaborators: the Security Battalions (Tagmata Asfaleias). These battalions—composed of Greeks—had fought not against the occupiers but against their own people. Armed, trained, and supported by the Nazis, they were tasked with crushing the communist-led resistance.

Marxism-Leninism on Individual Terror: A Response to the Assassination of Charlie Kirk

By Nikos Mottas

The assassination of Charlie Kirk in Utah has been immediately seized upon by the bourgeois press and state as a national tragedy, a “political assassination” that must unite society against “radical left extremism.”

Yet while the ruling class floods the airwaves with solemn denunciations of violence, it continues daily to unleash far greater violence upon the working class and oppressed peoples — through war, police repression, and the slow violence of exploitation.

Communist Workers’ Platform USA: Statement on the Assassination of Charlie Kirk

In a statement about the assassination of far-right political activist and influencer Charlie Kirk, the Central Committee of the Communist Workers’ Platform USA (CWPUSA) stresses out the following:

"Noted reactionary Charlie Kirk’s chicken came home to roost on 10 September 2025. Speaking at a university in Utah spewing the usual hateful, racist, and vile rhetoric he made into his career, Mr. Kirk was killed by a gunshot to the neck. The shooter is as of today, 11 September, still at large. Mr. Kirk devoted his one life on Earth as a loyal mouthpiece of the ruling class, spreading hate amongst the workers and people of this country and beyond.
