Ukraine officially rehabilitates Nazi collaborator Andriy Melnyk

The Ukrainian authorities have proceeded with the official repatriation and honoring of Andriy Melnyk, leader of the notorious Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-M), once again exposing the increasingly open rehabilitation of fascist and collaborationist forces within the country’s official historical narrative.

Melnyk was one of the principal leaders of the OUN, an ultra-nationalist and fiercely anti-communist organization that collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War II. Despite repeated attempts by Ukrainian nationalist circles to sanitize this history, the political character of the OUN remains inseparable from fascist ideology, ethnic chauvinism and collaboration with the Nazi occupation.

Ukraine: Zelensky’s regime intensifies persecution of the Kononovich Brothers

The case of the Kononovich brothers (Mikhail and Alexander) has entered a new and deeply alarming phase, revealing with even greater clarity the nature of their persecution by the reactionary Ukrainian regime. 

After years of detention, surveillance, and legal harassment, a recent development has not brought relief—but intensified danger. The sudden removal of their electronic monitoring devices, reportedly carried out without a corresponding judicial decision, has not meant freedom. 

 

Four Years Under Death’s Ravenous Gaze

The conflict in Eastern Ukraine did not come as a surprise to the KKE. It marked the ignition of a confrontation that had long been in the making — methodically prepared in the pressure cooker of clashing powerful interests — and it is a direct consequence of the capitalist restoration that led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It is worth recalling that at the time, the entire spectrum of Greece’s political establishment, from the far right to the so-called “renewed Left” — except the KKE — was proclaiming that “the avenues of peace and prosperity” were opening up for the peoples.

In a statement (here in Greek) concerning the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Greece and his meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday 16 November, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) stresses out: 

"The American dealers of the outrageously expensive LNG had barely left Greece when the buyer arrived — none other than the head of the reactionary and corrupt regime of Ukraine who, together with the USA–NATO–EU, has dragged his own people into the bloodbath with Russia that has lasted almost four years.

KKE: The imperialist bargaining on Ukraine does not portend anything positive for the peoples

In a statement (here in Greek) regarding the negotiations between the US, EU-NATO, Ukraine and the Russian Federation, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) stresses out:

“The live-streamed bargaining between those responsible for the war massacre in Ukraine does not portend anything positive for the people, nor does it focus on “peacemaking” and the “end of bloodshed”, as it is provocatively presented, but on the division of territories, “security guarantees” - that is, how the political-military relationship between NATO and Russian forces in Ukrainian territories will be settled - the businesses of large monopoly groups and arms packages.

Ukraine's regime destroys the last Lenin monument

The reactionary Ukrainian authorities have dismantled the country's last statue of the great Soviet leader and revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, authorities and activists reported on Monday. 

The monument stood in the village of Rudkovtsy in the western Khmelnytskyi Region and was taken down by the local utility service following a request from a group named "Decolonization Ukraine." 

 

According to the group, this was the last known Lenin monument in the country.

Kononovich brothers detained again in Kyiv: "Zelensky's Regime Wants Us Dead"!

On May 22, 2025, brothers Mikhail and Alexander Kononovich were unlawfully detained in Kyiv. Currently held as political prisoners, they are under house arrest with GPS monitoring bracelets. 

According to the brothers, they were walking to a hospital when a police car suddenly stopped near them. Officers jumped out, claiming the brothers were «wanted for evading military service,» and attempted to forcibly take them to a recruitment center (TCC).

Communists in Greece block trucks with ammunition heading to Ukraine

Once again, forces of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and its Youth wing, KNE, blocked trucks carrying ammunition to the slaughterhouse of Ukraine.

This time, members and supporters of the KKE and KNE blocked a convoy of trucks transporting 155mm calibers produced at the Hellenic Defense Systems SA and utilized on the front lines of the Ukrainian war. 

The incident took place in Lavrio, a town 40km south-east of Athens.

The EU has announced the “ReArm Europe” program worth 800 billion euros, signalling a rapid increase in its war spending.

KKE: Protests for the anti-communist, anti-democratic persecutions in Ukraine and Russia

On 11 March 2025, the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) held a picket outside the Embassy of Ukraine in Athens, while a delegation of the KKE and KNE affixed a letter of protest to its door.

With this protest, the KKE and KNE condemned the prolonged political persecution, arrest and torture of Mikhail and Alexander Kononovich, members of the Ukrainian Communist Youth League (Komsomol).

D. Koutsoumbas: The KKE's position on the nature of the war in Ukraine is confirmed once again

During the debate in the Parliament on 5 March, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the CC of the KKE, referred, among other things, to international developments and the war fronts, noting the following:

“One of the things you told the people to justify our country’s involvement in the war in Ukraine in the role of a NATO stooge was that we are supposedly on the 'right side of history'. Among other things, this involvement has hit the pockets of our people, especially due to high energy bills.

Rizospastis: The bargaining for Ukraine's mineral wealth exposes the imperialist pretexts

The daily newspaper “Rizospastis”, the organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece, refers on its front page of 26 February 2025 to the developments around the imperialist war in Ukraine and states in its headline: “The bargaining for mineral wealth exposes the imperialist pretexts”.

The article goes on to say that “The US-NATO-EU propaganda in defence of ‘democracy’ and ‘Western values’ is collapsing like a house of cards. The role of the ND government is exposed, as well as that of the social-democratic parties (PASOK, SYRIZA) and others who support the country’s involvement in the war. The positions of the KKE are confirmed”.

KKE: The peoples are witnessing a re-division of the world which can never be done peacefully

On Sunday 16 February the European Communist Action (ECA) held a teleconference under the theme "On the three years of imperialist war in Ukraine. The struggle of the communists against the EU, its war economy and the involvement of the bourgeois governments in imperialist wars".

“A peace settlement is long overdue in Ukraine, so it’s time to stop the war and start the peace!”, Kevan Nelson declared on Tuesday evening (18 February 2025) following that day’s talks between the US and Russian governments, 

“But it’s a bit rich for British and EU politicians to complain about their own exclusion from the Riyadh summit, when they have spent two years fueling the conflict instead of trying to initiate a peace process”, the Communist Party of Britain’s International Secretary told the CP Political Committee.

The University of Tübingen in Germany presents a hideously anti-commmunist exhibition under the name “The Price of Freedom”, which is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the 20th anniversary of the so-called “Orange Revolution” in Ukraine and the 10 years since the Euromaidan. 

 

Unsurprisingly, partners in this anti-communist project are the the Federal Foreign Office and the Ukrainian Institute in Berlin.
