KKE, PAME, Trade Unions denounce violent police attack on demonstrators in Athens

Commenting on the violent attack of riot police forces against a school teachers' demonstration on Friday in downtown Athens, the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas pointed out:

"Today's vicious attack by police forces against educators, which also resulted in the serious injury of KKE's MP Giannis Delis who is hospitalized, proves that the SYRIZA-ANEL government is ruthless. Seems that through this way Mr. Tsipras - like his predecessors- intends to "tie up his loose ends", that is to complete the dirty job he has undertaken".

In a statement, the Press Office of the CC of the KKE, apart from the condemnation of police brutality against the protesters, underlines that "this attack shows that the SYRIZA-ANEL government has no hesitation at all in order to impose its policy which, in the sector of teachers, is expressed through the hostageship and unemployment of thousands of contract-based and unappointed teachers, as well as with the thousand of vacant placesa at schools".

Earlier on Friday, riot police fired tear gas and stun grenades to stop protesters from forcing their way past a cordon outside parliament, and later when demonstrators tried to push away a barrier near Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' office. The school teachers were protesting the latest anti-people reactionary reforms implemented by the coalition government.

The brutality of the police attack against the protesters resulted in several injuries, including those of Giannis Delis, MP of the KKE, and Theodora Drimala, teacher and trade unionist.

In relevant statements, the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), the Students Militant Front (MAS) and trade unions strongly denounced the attack.
