Left Forum 2016: Interesting panels about Imperialism, Greece and the Refugee Crisis (May 20-22)

Two very interesting panels of discussion will be hosted at the Left Forum which will take place on May 20-22 in New York. The panels are sponsored by the website Marxism-Leninism Today and will include speakers from the Communist Party of Greece (KKE).

1. One panel is: "Imperialists Collide: War and Refugees in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East".

The Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East are the focal point of imperialist aggression and the consequent enormous, tragic refugee crisis. The panel will discuss the causes of the conflicts, the social and national forces engaged in the wars, and the prospects for peace and justice in the region from the perspective of the Greek Communist Party (KKE).

The panel will discuss developments in the region spurred by the drive to control markets, natural resources, transportation routes, and to increase monopoly profits. Also, the panelists will address the role of NATO, the US, the EU, in the  competition with Russia and China in the region. The role of Israel, the role of the SYRIZA-ANEL government, the prospects for a general war, and the projection of a class-based, internationalist, and socialist solution will also be on the panel's agenda.

Panelists:
Walter Tillow — Editorial Board, M-L Today.com.
Kostas Papadakis — Greek Communist Party (KKE)
Kostas  Pateras — Greek Communist Party (KKE)

2. The second panel is: "One Year of the SYRIZA-ANEL Government in Greece: The perspective of the Greek Communist Party (KKE)".

The social democratic party SYRIZA and the conservative, nationalist party ANEL have jointly governed Greece for over a year. The panel will discuss the harsh effects of this coalition government on the lives of Greece's working people and the prospects for moving beyond the trap of managing capitalism. KKE's program of winning Greece to socialism will be addressed in detail. The panel will consider the strategy and goals of the Greek bourgeoisie in the framework of the ongoing economic crisis and how they conflict with the strategies and goals of the Eurozone, the EU, and the US. How these antagonisms are expressed at the political level, how the Greek political scene is being recomposed (in particular, with regard to SYRIZA), and how the Greek working class and its allies are responding and must respond will also be discussed.

Panelists:
Greg Godels — Editorial Board, M-L Today,
Kostas Papadakis — Greek Communist Party (KKE)
Kostas Pateras — Greek Communist Party (KKE)

The panels will take place at: John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 524 West 59th in Manhattan (between 10th and 11th Avenues), New York City.

Details  of exact room number and exact time of the panels are still being worked out.  We will announce them here as soon as possible. The Left Forum is the largest annual conference of the broad Left in the United States. Each spring thousands of conference participants come together to discuss pressing local, national and global issues; to better understand commonalities and differences, and alternatives to current predicaments; or to share ideas to help build social movements to transform the world. This year's theme of Left Forum is Rage, Rebellion, Revolution – Organizing our Power. Please register online at www.leftforum.org
