“Fascists have no place in Greek society”: KKE blasts attempt to bring neo-Nazis back into political life

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has condemned attempts to restore the political presence of the criminal neo-Nazi organization Golden Dawn through a new political formation linked to its convicted former leading member, Ilias Kasidiaris, who was recently released from prison.

On September 21, Kasidiaris announced his support for the "Alliance of Greeks", a party associated with former MPs of the far-right "Spartans" party. Shortly afterwards, independent MP Giorgos Manoussos declared in Parliament that he effectively represented the new formation, provoking an immediate reaction from KKE lawmakers.

When Elon Musk publicly intervened in defense of Greek neo-Nazi Ilias Kasidiaris, the significance went far beyond another provocative post by one of the world’s richest men. 

Kasidiaris was not an obscure dissident punished for an unpopular opinion. He was a leading figure and former spokesman of Golden Dawn, the Greek neo-Nazi organization whose leadership was convicted of operating as a criminal organization. 

Communist Party of Greece (KKE) strongly condemns release of Golden Dawn neo-Nazi Kasidiaris

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has strongly condemned the release from prison of Ilias Kasidiaris, a former leading member of the Nazi criminal organization Golden Dawn, describing the decision as a “provocation” against the organization’s victims, their families and the working people who fought for its conviction.

Kasidiaris’ release follows that of almost the entire former leadership of Golden Dawn, which was convicted in 2020 of operating as a criminal organization.

 

EU's concern for the rise of far-right extremism and racism is hypocritical, says KKE MEP

“The organized struggle of the people against the system that generates fascism can isolate the criminal-fascist gangs, said Kostas Papadakis, MEP of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), highlighting the hypocrisy of the European Union on the matter, during his intervention at the Plenary of the EU Parliament in Strasbourg.

Speaking at the debate concerning the “rise of the right-wing extremism and racism in Europe” on October 20th, the KKE MEP pointed out:

KKE and KNE are committed in the struggle against fascism

“The KKE and KNE, as they should do, are giving all their forces in the struggle against fascism, being aware of its abominable face, but also knowing that fascism will be irrevocably crushed by the people with their struggle against the capitalist system  which generates it”, points out Theano Kapeti, member of the Political Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and Secretary of the Party Organization in Central Macedonia, in an article published in “Ta Nea” newspaper.

Greece: Fascists, neo-Nazis attack students outside school

A mob of fascists and neo-Nazis wearing hoods and crash helmets attacked an anti-fascist rally of students in a high school in the Greek city of Thessaloniki on Tuesday morning. The event took place outside the EPAL vocational school in the suburb of Stavroupolis, when a group of approximately 30 fascists came out of the school premises and attacked the rally with bats and knives leading to at least two injuries.

Three months after the trial of Golden Dawn in Greece – the largest court hearing of a Nazi group since Nuremberg – two members of its hierarchy remain at large. One of them is Golden Dawn's founding member Yiannis Lagos who has appealed against the court verdict from the safety of the European Parliament, where he is a member.

Since October, Greek judicial authorities have requested the waiver of his immunity by the EU Parliament. However, despite calls by MEPs, Parties and anti-fascist organizations for Lagos to “excluded from all democratic processes”, he continues to address the EU Parliament's sessions and provoke through his far-right, racist and nationalist rages in social media. 

KKE on Golden Dawn trial verdict: "No room for complacency. Fascism is the true offspring of this rotten system"

The Golden Dawn Trial in Greece, the largest trial of Nazis since the Nuremberg trials, has come to an end. In a historic verdict announced on Thursday, the Athens Court of Appeal ruled that 38 of the 50 defendants found guilty will go to jail, among which are 13 former MPs in the Greek parliament.

Among those the court has ruled should go to prison for their participation in Golden Dawn, which has been ruled a criminal organisation in the guise of a political party, are its leader Nikos Michaloliakos, current MEP Yiannis Lagos, and former MPs Ilias Kasidiaris, Christos Pappas, Ilias Panagiotaros, Giorgos Germenis and Artemis Matthaiopoulos, who were all found guilty of running a criminal organisation.

Dimitris Koutsoumbas on Golden Dawn verdict: "The people must overthrow the system that generates Nazism-Fascism"

The Athens Court of Appeals on Wednesday delivered a historic guilty verdict for the leaders and members of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn, finding that they had run Golden Dawn as a criminal organization.  

In a unanimous ruling, Greek justice ruled that Golden Dawn was a criminal organization "wearing the cloak of a political party," in accordance with the indictment in the case.

The court also found the defendant Golden Dawn member, Giorgos Roupakias, guilty of all charges for the murder of anti-fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas and another 15 defendants in the case guilty of acting as accomplices, while acquitting two due to reasonable doubt.

Golden Dawn Trial: "They aren't innocent — Nazis in prison!"

Wednesday 7th October 2020 is going to be a historic day for the world's anti-fascist movement. On that day, at 11 am local hour, the Athens Criminal Appeals Court is going to announce the verdict in the trial of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party – a trial which began in March 2015.

With its ruling the court is called on to decide whether the accused (a total of 69 defendants, including 18 ex-Parliament members) are guilty or not guilty of forming a criminal organization. Based on the evidence presented in the court it is beyond doubt that Golden Dawn – which was elected to the Greek and EU Parliaments in three separate elections - has been a criminal organization that had the legal form of a party enjoying, as a result of that, enhanced constitutional protection.

Golden Dawn Trial: The Nazi criminals must be punished!

The 18^th of September 2020 marked the 7^th anniversary since the brutal murder of anti-fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas by members of the criminal, neo-Nazi Golden Dawn gang. Just a few days before Fyssas’ murder in Piraeus, the Nazis had unleashed murderous attacks against immigrants and trade unionists belonging to the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME).

On the 7^th anniversary since Fyssas’ murder, hundreds of people marched in Athens demanding the punishment of Golden Dawn’s criminals.

KKE condemns the provocative racist rant of neo-Nazi MEP Lagos

The EU Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemns the racist rant of the Nazi MEP – former Golden Dawn MP – Yannis Lagos who ripped a copy of the Turkish flag during his speech in the EU Parliament. 

“This provocation is aimed against both the Greek and Turkish people and is linked to dirty plans that the nationalists always serve” writes a statement published on KKE’s 902 portal.

In a statement the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) reflects on the results of the July 7th parliamentary elections. The full statement is the following:

Dimitris Koutsoumbas: Statement on the results of the European and local elections of May 26th

In his statement to the mass media, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary  of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) noted the following regarding the results for the elections for the European Parliament and local administration: 

“First of all we would like to thank all of those who responded to KKE's call to join forces with it. All of those who honored us, participating in the Party ballot, but also all those who under difficult conditions came to the ballot box and voted for the KKE in the European Parliament elections and for “People's Rally” in the municipal and regional elections. "SYRIZA and New Democracy (ND) are identical in the goal to recover capitalist profits. That is why in the plans, in their declarations, there is not even the slightest mention or commitment for the abolition of the memorandums, the hundreds of memorandum laws that threw salaries and pensions to the bottom, crushing the workers' rights", said Dimitris Koutsoumbas, the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) during a speech in the city of Trikala.

It seems that the Embassy of China in Greece has developed some kind of relations with the Neo-Nazi party - actually a criminal organization - of Golden Dawn. 

Since when a country like China is interested in opening dialogue with fascists, fans of Hitler and Mussolini, who are under court investigation for murders, attacks on migrants and workers, as well as other crimes?

Regarding the effort of various fascist groups, including the neo-Nazi, criminal Golden Dawn party, to sow the poison of nationalism and racism in the country's schools, the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) issued a statement. 

The statement points out: "Towards the dangerous developments in our region and the effort of various fascists to sow their fascist-racist poison, the students must continue isolating these forces, as they decisively have done in hundreds of schools throughout the country these days."

Five years since the assassination of Pavlos Fyssas - Mass demonstration in Piraeus

Hundreds of workers, students, people of every age participated in a mass rally on Tuesday afternoon, in Keratsini, a neighborhood of Piraeus in Greece, in order to commemorate the five years since the brutal assassination of anti-fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas.

Fyssas, a metalworker and a rapper, was murdered on September 18th 2013 by a neo-Nazi Golden Dawn member. He was 34 years old.

The slogan of the demonstration's front banner was "Golden Dawn, stooges of the bosses, the struggle of the people will smash you", while numerous other blocs with university and high school students were following. Among the major slogans of the protesters was "Smash fascists in every neighborhood" and "You are the stooges of  the shipowners, hencemen and stoolies of the bosses". 

KKE: Comment regarding the nationalist rally over "Macedonia" name in Athens

Commenting on the "Macedonia" rally* that was held in central Athens on Sunday 4th February, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece pointed out the following:

"Both the speeches and the slogans that dominated in the rally, do not challenge the dangerous NATO plans which the SYRIZA-ANEL government promotes by designating the arsonists of the Balkans as supposed guarantors of peace and cooperation.

They conceal the actual problems, throwing water in the mill of nationalism and irredentism, while at the same time they are fostering the government to present its policy with the mandle of a supposed progressivity.

Declaration of the KKE about the Macedonia naming dispute between Greece and FYROM

Regarding the ongoing developments on the Macedonia name dispute and the negotiations between Greece and FYROM, the Communist Party of Greece issued the following pamphlet-statement.

“The arsonists of the Balkans- NATO, USA, EU- do not want to give a solution for the people's benefit!

The KKE calls the Greek people, who are genuinely concerned about the developments on the FYROM issue, must see the essence of the problem, the “forest” and not the “tree”. They must overcome the disorientation and the false dividing lines that both the government as well those powers who invest on nationalism and irredentism are cultivating.
