Communist Party of the Workers of Spain demands accountability after deadly train collision in Toledo

The Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE) has expressed its grief over the deadly collision between two trains in Los Yébenes, Toledo, on Wednesday, October 28, which, according to the party's statement, has claimed 64 lives and left approximately 100 people injured.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the PCTE extended its condolences to the victims' families and expressed solidarity with the injured, railway workers, emergency personnel and local residents who participated in rescue operations.

The violent intervention of Spanish police against students and university workers at Madrid's Complutense University on October 14 has sparked international solidarity from communist organizations in Greece and Turkey.

During mobilizations in defence of public education, police attacked student pickets, arresting five people, including a member of the Communist Youth Collectives (CJC), the youth wing of the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE). Several protesters, including CJC militants, were injured, with some requiring hospital treatment.

August 18 marked 90 years since the murder of Federico García Lorca, the great Spanish poet and dramatist who was executed by Franco's fascist forces near Granada in 1936, during the first weeks of the Spanish Civil War.

Those who murdered Lorca may have believed that a bullet could silence his voice. History proved otherwise. His poetry, theatre and enduring humanism survived his killers, turning him into one of the most internationally recognised figures of Spanish literature and a lasting symbol of the democratic and anti-fascist Spain that Francoism sought to destroy.

 

KKE Europarliament Group denounces EU and Spanish Government over deadly Ceuta migrant crackdown

The European Parliamentary Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has denounced the responsibility of the European Union and Spain’s social-democratic government for the latest deadly events in Ceuta, where 99 refugees and migrants were reported dead and dozens more missing, accusing the EU of turning repression, pushbacks and the denial of asylum into pillars of its migration policy.

KKE MEP Kostas Papadakis raised the issue in a question submitted to the European Commission, highlighting the responsibility of both the Sánchez government and the EU institutions for yet another tragedy involving people uprooted by imperialist interventions, poverty and exploitation.

That coup was the violent response of the ruling classes to guarantee their offensive in all the spheres; it was their response against the advance of the workers', peasants', and popular organization. 

PCTE denounces PP alliance with far-right Vox in Castile and León as "anti-worker and anti-people"

The Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE) has strongly condemned the new governing agreement between the conservative People's Party (PP) and the far-right Vox party in the autonomous community of Castile and León, describing it as a program designed to deepen the exploitation of the working class while serving the interests of big capital.

In a statement, the PCTE argues that the agreement combines anti-worker labor policies, privatization measures, attacks on social rights and reactionary ideological initiatives under the banners of "freedom" and "rural development."
