Nepal's communist Premier K P Sharma Oli wins vote of confidence in Parliament, secures two-thirds majority

Nepal's communist Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, who won a crucial floor test in Parliament on Sunday with more than a two-thirds majority, vowed to begin a "new chapter" in Nepali politics, nearly a week after he was sworn in to lead a coalition government in the politically unstable Himalayan nation.

Oli secured 188 votes in favour of the Vote of Confidence motion tabled by him while 74 votes were cast against him. 

 

KKE on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus

In a declaration "on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus", the Political Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out that "For 50 years, since the Turkish invasion took place, which led to thousands of dead, missing and displaced , as well as the occupation of 37% of Cyprus to date, the KKE insists firmly on condemning it, highlighting the international character of the Cyprus problem, expressing international solidarity with the working class, the popular strata of Cyprus, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites or Latins".

Communist Party of Vietnam's General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng dies at 80

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyễn Phú Trọng,  passed away on Friday at 1.38pm. He was 80 years old.

In an announcement issued by the Expert Council for the Health Protection of Central-level Officials, the Party chief had been under the intensive care of leading medical experts and doctors and was with his family. He passed away due to age-related illness at Central Military Hospital 108 in Hà Nội.

KKE: Ursula von der Leyen's re-election confirms the "dealings" between conservatives, social democrats and far-rightists in the EU

Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected President of the European Commission, following a vote held today, Thursday 18 July 2024, at the plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. 

 

Her re-election was supported by the European People's Party (EPP), the Social Democrats (S&D) and Liberals, but also by far-right and green political forces. In total it received 401 positive votes, 284 against and 55 abstentions.

Interview with the Workers' Front of Ukraine: Fascism, the Imperialist War and the perspective of Socialism

The Workers' Front of Ukraine-RFU (Робітничий Фронт України), is a clandestine Marxist-Leninist group founded in 2019. Below you can read the english version of an interview they gave to Karl Gunnarsson, International Secretary of the Communist Party of Sweden-SKP, which was published in SKP's official gazette "Riktpunkt".

Communist Initiative of Cyprus: 50 years since the twin imperialist crime of 1974

Statement (here in Greek) by the Communist Initiative of Cyprus (CIC) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary since the July 1974 coup d'etat, organized by the Athens' Junta, against the Cypriot government and the subsequent bloody Turkish military invasion which led to the partition of the island:

"50 years have passed since the twin imperialist crime of 1974, but its wounds remain open. Cyprus and its people are still divided because of the Turkish occupation and the ongoing NATO crime. The treasonous coup and the Turkish invasion in July 1974 did not come out of the blue. 

Communist Workers Platform USA: On the attempted assassination of Trump

Statement by the Central Committee of the Communist Workers Platform USA (CWPUSA):

On the evening of July 13, a gunman opened fire at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The gunman grazed Trump’s ear, leaving him bloodied, with one attendee dead and two others wounded. These individual acts of adventurism have proven throughout history to be a dead-end which can only harm real efforts to gather the movement for the socialist revolution. In the US, many examples exist of failed or successful assassination attempts.

Former U.S President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt on Saturday 13 July 2024 at a Pennsylvania rally, days before he was to accept the Republican nomination for a third time. A barrage of gunfire set off panic, and a bloodied Trump, who was shot in the ear, was surrounded by Secret Service and hurried to his SUV as he pumped his fist in a show of defiance.

KKE and the Communist Party of Cuba reaffirm strong fraternal relations during Koutsoumbas' visit in Havana

The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) reaffirmed their strong, fraternal relations during a meeting in Havana, within the framework of the visit paid by KKE General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas on the island. 

More specifically, as Granma reported,  the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda, received on Saturday 13/7 Koutsoumbas and the delegation accompanying him.

Syrian Communist Party denounces the detention of comrade Abdul Rahman Khalil

In a statement, the Central Secretariat of the Syrian Communist Party denounced the arrest of comrade Abdul Rahman Khalil and demands his immediate release:

"On July 10, departments affiliated with the so-called “Self-Administration” in northeast Syria arrested Comrade Abdul Rahman Khalil, the nominated member of the Political Bureau of the Syrian Communist Party and a member of the People’s Assembly (Parliament), due to his participation in the electoral campaign for the People’s Assembly (Parliament). Comrade Abdul Rahman refused to sign a pledge not to participate in this campaign in exchange for his release.

Venezuela: Nicolás Maduro, a cynical candidate

Candidate Nicolás Maduro moves with ease; he goes around the country pointing out what is wrong here and there. He denounces bureaucracy and corruption. Everywhere he goes there are unfinished construction works; he summons ministers and mayors; he shouts and gesticulates. Candidate Nicolás Maduro does not like the management of President Nicolás Maduro, however, he asks for his reelection.

It seems that there were another government that delivers a catastrophic administration and that the candidate Nicolás Maduro disinterestedly offers to solve it because he has nothing to do with that disaster.

In a statement on the NATO Summit to be held from 9 to 11 July in Washington, D.C., the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) notes the following:

“The NATO Summit, which will be held from 9 to11 July 2024, in Washington, D.C., marks a new round of intensification of Euro-Atlantic aggression around the world. In the foreground is the escalation of the imperialist war in Ukraine between the Ukrainian bourgeoisie, which actively supports and is backed by NATO, and capitalist Russia and its own allies, which poses great dangers for the peoples.

Tudeh Party: The manoeuvres of the theocratic regime in Iran and the changes in the guards to save the dictatorship

In a statement concerning the recent Presidential elections in Iran and the victory of Masoud Pezeshkian, the Tudeh Party stresses out:

"The presidential election show, which the ruling regime of Iran was eagerly hoping to turn into a grand endorsement of the theocratic regime, ended with the majority of the nation boycotting it. Even according to the official statistics, in several major cities, including the capital Tehran, voter turnout barely exceeded 30%. According to ISNA, the head of the election office in Tehran province said: "The number of eligible voters for the fourteenth presidential election was 10,199,742, and in this election, on June 25^th, 3,366,264 ballots were used in the capital."
