A resolution on the “creation of a special tribunal for Russia” was adopted on 19/1/23 by the People’s Party, the Social Democrats, the Liberals, the Greens and far-right groups in the European Parliament. The 2 KKE MEPs voted against it.

KKE condemns the murder of Latif Afridi in Pakistan

Abdul Latif Afridi, prominent jurist, former member of the CC of the Communist Party of Pakistan and former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, was murdered by a lawyer inside the Peshawar high court. 
 
The gunman fired six shots at 79-year old Afridi's chest from less than a foot away, a witness said.  
 
Latif Afridi was a staunch human rights defender, leaving behind a significant legacy of decades-long struggles for democracy and the people's rights.

Communist Party of Greece: Valuable experience of the USSR in the struggle for socialism

On 14 January 2023, the Revolutionary Communist Party of France organized an event in Paris on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Soviet Union. Below, you can find the contribution made at the event by Eliseos Vagenas, member of the CC of the KKE and Head of the International Relations Section.

If someone said that the Soviet Union would disintegrate, for us it would be like the sun would not rise the next day” the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, had said in an interview. This phrase captures the feelings of millions of communists and other progressive people who understood that the overthrow of socialism and the dissolution of the Soviet Union would mean a major social setback for the working people all over the world.

European Parliamentary Group of the KKE: People's housing: 'Green', expensive commodity in the EU and capitalism. The communists' proposal for a way out

The event of the European Parliamentary Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) titled “People's housing: 'Green', expensive commodity in the EU and capitalism. The communists' proposal for a way out”, which took place on Monday 5 December in the European Parliament in Brussels, was an opportunity for communists to present their valuable militant experience from the struggles for the defence of people's houses in Greece, Spain and Sweden.

KKE: Statement on the Parthenon Sculptures

In a statement issued today, Thursday, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemns the unacceptable comments made by Britain's Culture Minister Michelle Donelan who stated that the Parthenon sculptures “belong in the UK”. Recent reports, both in Greece and abroad, have suggested that the British Museum's chairman George Osborne is close to agreeing a deal with the Greek government.

KKE: The storming of Brazil's Congress by far-right groups shows the deep decay of capitalist societies

In a statement concerning the storming of government buildings by followers of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil's capital, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) points out (here in Greek):

“The methodical invasion of government buildings by far-right supporters of former Brazilian President Bolsonaro and their calls for a coup are directed against the interests of the Brazilian people who are solely responsible for determining the social and political developments in their country.

Lazaros Kyritsis, Greek communist resistance fighter, dies at 102

Lazaros Kyritsis, veteran member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), guerrilla fighter and politician, died in Athens at the age of 102. Kyritsis was a member of the generation of communists who were persecuted, exiled and imprisoned by the bourgeois state in the post-war years.

In a statement published on 902 portal, the Central Committee of the KKE pays farewell to comrade Lazaros Kyritsis, calling him a “firm and unwavering communist, an unbending participant of the class struggle who stood for the people's rights, the high ideals of the struggle for the abolition of the exploitation of man by man, for socialism-communism”.

KKE condemns blockade on the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh

In a statement, the International Relations Section of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemns the blockade imposed on the Armenian population at Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan. More specifically, the statement (here in Greek) reads:

"The people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) are once again experiencing great difficulties, following the complete blockade (ground and air) imposed by Azerbaijan, with the tolerance of the Russian "peacekeeping" forces. The Armenians of the region, deprived of food, medicine and fuel supplies in the particularly difficult winter conditions, are facing serious problems of survival.

New anti-communist law in Poland: Intervention of the KKE at the EU Parliament

The MEPs of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounced the new escalation of anti-communist bans and persecution in Poland, focusing on the changes in the country’s Criminal Code. MEP Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos addressed a question to the European Commission.

The Polish government, by revising the Criminal Code, punishes with up to three years’ imprisonment any person who, among other things, “publicly promotes” or “produces, records or imports, possesses, sells, offers, stores, keeps, presents, transfers or displays in printed, electronic or any other form (...) communist symbols and ideas”.

The popular demonstrations that have erupted in Peru after the ouster of the social-democrat President Pedro Castillo and his replacement by Vice President Dina Boluarte, are facing a brutal murderous attack by the state repression mechanisms and the new government that enjoys the support of the majority of bourgeois parties, including the Free Peru party from which Castillo comes.

Regarding the (new) statement of the leadership of the RCWP, which repeats the well-known dead-end positions and attacks against our party, the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE notes the following:

First, SolidNet is an important achievement of the Communist and Workers’ Parties and the observance of the rules governing it requires responsibility, which, unfortunately, the leadership of the RCWP fails to demonstrate. In its statements, it continues its unacceptable characterizations, turns against specific comrades, uses inaccuracies, and distorts the positions of the KKE and other parties.

Greek communists-targets of the Ukrainian death list "Myrotvorets"

Joint statement by Giorgos Lambroulis, Member and Vice President of the Greek Parliament, Sotiris Zarianopoulos, former Member of the European Parliament, and Giorgos Maganas, cadre of the KKE, on the Press Project website:

"The inclusion of our names in the Ukrainian blacklist with the misleading title “Peacemaker” proves the fact that the Ukrainian bourgeois state chose to overtly target us, as well as our Party, the KKE, which accepted an invitation in November 2014 to visit the Donbas region to express our solidarity with the people of the region and Ukraine as a whole.

#QatarGate: KKE MEP Papadakis blasts the EU as "the womb that gives birth to corruption scandals"

“The EU of capital is the womb that gives birth to corruption” underlined the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) MEP Kostas Papadakis during his intervention at the plenary debate held in Strasbourg concerning the recent EU-Qatar corruption scandal.


Papapakis said that “the womb that gives birth to corruption centered in the European Parliament is the capital's EU itself”, adding that it was on this ground that the financial scandal involving Vice President Eva Kaili and other former and current MEPs took place.

KKE supports the LET CUBA REBUILD urgent appeal

In a statement published today, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas expresses the party's support to the appeal “Let Cuba Rebuild”. More specifically, the statement published in 902 portal, points out:


“I hereby endorse urgent appeal “Let Cuba Rebuild”, addressed to the President of the USA, to suspend the blockade of Cuba for at least 5 months, in order to facilitate the supply of the necessary materials for the reconstruction of the country that was recently stricken by cyclone “Ian”, which caused great destruction.

100th anniversary of the founding of the USSR: Closing remarks by Giorgos Marinos, KKE Politburo member

Concluding the teleconference of the European Communist Initiative, Giorgos Marinos, among other things, noted the following: 

KKE on Europarliament's corruption scandal: European Union itself is a “nursery” of corruption

Greek social democratic MEP, who also serves as one of EU Parliament's Vice Presidents, Eva Kaili, was arrested on Friday afternoon amid an investigation into corruption implicating FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar. After searches on 16 properties, including the homes of MEPs advisers, police seized around €600,000 in cash, computer equipment, and mobile telephones. 

This is said to include Luca Visentini, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC); Niccolò Figà-Talamanc, director of No Peace Without Justice NGO; the former Socialists & Democrats MEP Pier-Antonio Panzeri; and parliamentary assistant in the Socialists & Democrats group and Kaili's partner, Francesco Giorgi.

KKE: On the shameful effort for the recognition of the myth of "Holodomor" by EU Parliament

In a statement (here in Greek) issued on December 5, the EU Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounces the collection of signatures by well-known far-right, anti-communist MEPs regarding the 1932-33 famine in Ukraine. With unhistorical and unfounded claims recently adopted by the German Parliament, they invoke the alleged “deliberate extermination of the Ukrainian people by the Soviet Union, the Bolsheviks and Stalin”.

The following speech was delivered by the General Secretary of the CC of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas at the teleconference of the European Communist Initiative on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the USSR:

Dear comrades,

The international and domestic developments in the 100 years since the founding of the USSR confirm the necessity to enrich our programmatic conception of socialism, incorporating all the positive and at the same time negative experience from the very course of socialist construction in the 20th century and drawing useful conclusions from the victory of the counter-revolution, first of all in the USSR.
