The Fall of Karabakh

On September 19, Azerbaijan announced an “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh against the unrecognized “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic” (Republic of Artsakh) in order to ensure “the safety of military personnel and the restoration of constitutional order”.

A day later, the NKR government announced the end of resistance and agreement with the demands of Azerbaijan. The agreement to stop “anti-terrorist measures” was reached on the basis of the withdrawal of all armed forces of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, the complete disarmament of the NKR army and the surrender of its weapons and heavy equipment to the Azerbaijani forces. The statement by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense emphasizes: “The implementation of these processes is ensured in coordination with Russian peacekeepers”.

Armenian communists call for an immediate ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

The Communist Party of Armenia calls for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia!

On Sunday 27 September, the Azerbaijani armed forces resumed their attack on targets inside Artsakh (the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave) and reignited a dangerous conflict that could quickly escalate and further endanger the peace and stability in the already volatile region. The Communist Party of Armenia strongly and unequivocally condemns the assault by the Azerbaijani military forces and their Turkish backers, as well as the vile rhetoric of their political leaders, which has been consciously directed against the civilians of Artsakh and Armenia.

During the visit, Liana Kanelli met with the President of Nagorno-Karabakh Bako S. Sahakyan, the President of Nagorno-Karabakh's Parliament Ashot Gulian and the Deputy speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov. The Sunday edition of "Rizospastis" (17/4) includes an interesting detailed report of the visit. We translated and present some parts of the report below:

"The setback from the principles of Socialism's construction with the responsibility of CPSU, the counter-revolutionary overthrow and the capitalist restoration from above, also from the CPSU, revived nationalist tensions and brought to the forefront the interests of each country's bourgeoisie after the dissolution of the USSR which created by the plundering of peoples' property.
