Emma Stone to portray Nadezhda Krupskaya, Lenin's wife, in Yorgos Lanthimos' new film

After “The Favourite”, “Poor Things” and the soon to be released “Kinds of Kindness”, Academy Award winning actress Emma Stone and Greek film director Yorgos Lanthimos are once again joining forces towards a very promising project focused on the life of the great bolshevik revolutionary and father of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

As Lanthimos has revealed, Stone will portray Nadezhda Krupskaya, Lenin's faithful wife who played a significant role not only in Ulyanov's personal life, but also in the political scene during the first years of the October Revolution.

The names of the other leading participants in the film haven't been revealed yet, with rumors saying that Jude Law and Ethan Hawk are the two most likely choices of the production for the role of Lenin.

During a National Theatre of Greece event in Athens, Yorgos Lanthimos teased what audiences can expect from his new film: “It will be a neo-noir film based on the historical events surrounding the October Revolution in Russia. The story will be largely based on John Reed's “Ten Days That Shook the World”, but I also add a glimpse of historical surrealism”.

Concerning his new collaboration with Emma Stone, he underlined that “It’s great working again with Emma. It’s so much easier with someone who trusts you so much, and who you trust so much. I have no doubt she will correspond brilliantly in her new role as Krupskaya, like she did with Bella Baxter”.

Lanthimos didn't provide any more information about the film because, as he said, “we are currently in the process of preparing the production and I'm afraid telling more will make my choices more narrow”.

The filming will begin in September in Saint Petersburg - formerly Leningrad - and Zurich, while the release of the movie is expected to take place in 2026.
