KKE's General Secretary Koutsoumbas pays tribute to comrade Sitaram Yechury

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) expressed its sadness over the death of Indian communist leader Sitaram Yechury, who passed away yesterday at the age of 72. In a letter signed by General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas, the KKE praises Yechury's contribution to the international communist movement.

Sitaram Yechury, Indian communist leader, dies aged 72

Sitaram Yechury, long-time General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has died at 72 following hospitalization for acute respiratory tract infection.

In a statement, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) points out:

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its profound grief at the passing away of Comrade Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of the Party on September 12, 2024. He died after battling a severe lung infection at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He was aged 72 years.

Vladimir Lenin: Lodestar of Revolutionary Advance For Human Emancipation

In a short span of 54 years, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin left an inerasable imprint for the advance of the global proletarian revolution.  He not only mastered the essence of the creative science of Marxism, but updated it to his contemporary times and led the Russian Revolution to victory leading to the establishment of the first socialist country in the world – the USSR.  

He enriched Marxism combating all forms of deviations and protected the revolutionary movement from derailment. He was a master tactician adopting correct and appropriate tactics for every twist and turn of the revolutionary movement.

India - Bilkis Bano case: Communists vehemently condemn the release of rapists and murderers

Bilkis Bano was five-months pregnant when she was attacked by a Hindu mob in 2002 as anti-Muslim violence gripped the western Indian state of Gujarat. Bano, then 21 years old, was gang-raped by sword-wielding men from her neighborhood. Fourteen of her family members were killed, including her 3-year-old daughter, who was snatched from her arms and bashed against a rock.

A few days ago, on the 15th of August, 11 men serving a life sentence for the crimes were released from prison on remission by the Gujarat state government, sparking widespread outrage and an emotional appeal for justice from Bano.

Sitaram Yechury re-elected as General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)

The 85-member new Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) that was elected at the 23rd Party Congress held in Kannur has chosen Sitaram Yechury as General Secretary. 

Yechury, 69, is taking over the leadership of the party for a third consecutive term. 

He succeeded Prakash Karat who has held the top post in India's largest left party from 2005 to 2015.

The 23rd Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) kicks off in Kannur

The 23rd Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) kicked off yesterday in the city of Kannur, in Kerala.  

The Draft Political Resolution (abstract here) was introduced to the Party Congress by the General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury

As is the tradition of vigorous inner-Party democracy practised by the CPI(M), this Draft Resolution was released two months in advance and all Party members have the right to send amendments directly to the Central Committee. 4,001 amendments were received by the Central Committee, in the stipulated time.

India: Communist Party leader Sitaram Yechury urges PM Modi to take urgent action as Covid crisis deepens

India's healthcare system is buckling as a record surge in Covid-19 cases puts pressure on hospital beds and drains oxygen supplies. According to international reports, families are left pleading for their relatives who are desperately ill, with some patients left untreated for hours.

Crematoriums are organising mass funeral pyres. On Friday 24 April India reported 332,730 new cases of coronavirus, setting a world record for a second day running. Deaths were numbered at 2,263 in 24 hours.

India: More than a million people attended a rally of the Communist Party (Marxist) and its allies in Kolkata

A sea of people gathered in the city of Kolkata earlier today during a massive rally organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and left allied forces. The rally, one of the largest political gatherings of the last years, was held at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground which is the city's largest open ground. 

The huge rally comes just prior to the West Bengal assembly polls, sending a strong message to both the governing BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and TMC (All India Trinamool Congress).

Trump not welcome in India: Anti-imperialist, left forces ready to protest during his visit

Democratic, peace-loving and anti-imperialist forces in India are ready to protest against U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit in the country on February 24-25. 

During a press conference last week, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sitaram Yechury, said that his party will participate in demonstrations during Trump’s visit to the country. 

“May be in Delhi or in Gujarat, the party activists will certainly protest”, Yechury pointed out.

Solidarity with India's communists - Condemn the detention of Sitaram Yechury and D. Raja

In an outrageously authoritarian act, security forces in Srinagar airport proceeded to the detention of Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and D. Raja, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India

The two leaders were on their way to meet Yusuf Tarigami, prominent cadre of CPI(M), MLA of Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, and to meet people from the region. In a press conference they said the government violated their democratic right to meet theircomrade. The moment they alighted from the flight, they were whisked away by security forces, their bags taken away and they were confined to a room. They were informed that they can't be allowed to step out of the airport because of the prevailing law and order situation in the State, they added.

Communist Party of India (Marxist): Sitaram Yechury re-elected General Secretary

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has re-elected cde Sitaram Yechury as the party's General Secretary for a second term.
The decision was taken during party's 22nd congress in Hyderabad.
Yechury's re-election has reinforced his position on an electoral understanding with the Congress party in the upcoming India's general elections in 2019.
The election of the 65-year-old Yechury was approved by the party's newly-elected 95-member central committee.

"With KKE, on counterattack!"- Massive political event at KNE-Odigitis youth festival in Athens (PHOTOS)

Thousands of people attented a large political event during the third- and last- day of the 42nd KNE-Odigitis festival in Athens. The major speaker was the General Secretary of the CC of KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas

Other speakers included the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yetsury who delivered "red" revolutionary salutes on behalf of his country's communists and Nikos AbatielosSecretary of the Central Council of KNE, who stressed that "our festival is a picture from the beautiful world for which our Party struggles".

In his speech, apart from the contemporary political, social and economic issues, the GS of the Communist Party of Greece Dimitris Koutsoumbas refered also to the Party's 100th anniversary in 1918. He said, among other things:

Indian communist leader Sitaram Yechury visited the KNE-Odigitis festival in Athens

During his stay in Athens, the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yechury visited the KNE-Odigitis festival which takes place these days in Greece's capital. 

Secretary Yechury paid a visit to the main exhibition of the festival- which is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE)- where he was welcomed by Giorgos Marinos, member of the Political Bureau of the CC of the KKE. 

The CPI (Marxist) leader also visited the international sector of the Festival.
