Venezuela communists denounce persecution and harassment against public workers by PSUV regime

After the wave of popular protests and discontent following the announcement of the results of the presidential elections in the country, “there has been an escalation of persecution and harassment against public sector workers”, denounced this Monday the leader of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), Jaqueline López.

In a press statement issued by the Political Bureau of the PCV, it was reported that “in the last two weeks open and simulated dismissals have been executed in public institutions and state enterprises”.

A new Communist Party to be launched in Cyprus

A new Communist Party, with marxist-leninist ideological characteristics, is due to be launched in Cyprus. According to Christos Kourtellaris, Executive Secretary of the Communist Initiative of Cyprus (CIC), the new party with the honored hammer and sickle as its emblem aims to participate in the 2026 parliamentary elections. 

In an interview to "Kathimerini" (4 August 2024), Kourtellaris stressed that we are fighting for the goal of a society of socialism-communism in which the working class will have the power.

Israeli racist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Tuesday, Aug 13, dismissed far-right Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s insistence that Jewish prayer on the Al-Aqsa-Temple Mount remains prohibited, repeating that it was his policy to allow the practice and eliciting outrage from Arab leaders as well as members of his own coalition. 

However, Tuesday’s prayers were far more explicit, with numerous men flattening themselves on the ground, and loud calls of “Shema Yisrael” heard in videos from the scene, in violation of police instructions.

The hero of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games isn't Tom Cruise, Armand Duplantis or Novak Djokovic. The hero is Cuban and his name is Mijaín Lopez.  

The son of Leonor and Bartolo, went beyond all possible limits. If any human work comes close to perfection, it is the one he has just closed here, with his fifth consecutive gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling. Wrestling has remained, with Mijaín, in the golden paradise of the five rings since 1992, when Héctor Milián won the gold medal in Barcelona. Since then, he has never failed to reach the top of the podium in any edition.

India: Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, veteran Communist and former West Bengal Chief Minister, dies at 80

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, veteran Communist Party leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister, died today, 8 August, at his south Kolkata (Calcutta) residence.  

In a statement,  the Central Committee office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) points out: 

"The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its profound grief at the passing away of Comrade Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, outstanding leader of the Party and former Chief Minister of West Bengal.  He was aged 80 years and had been in ailing health for some time.
