The Kurdish nationalist movement’s anti-communism

By Cansu Oba

A recent article published by one of the Kurdish nationalist movement’s media outlets has provided an opportunity to revisit certain aspects of the movement’s class character and ideological foundations.

In reality, this stance is not new. Throughout Abdullah Öcalan’s years in prison, he has repeatedly produced statements and writings that target socialist experiences and the founders of scientific socialism. These have for some time been highlighted in the movement’s own media.

Communist Parties of Venezuela and Ecuador expose the "World Antiimperialist Platform’s" opportunism

In early December 2025, two significant communiqués — one from the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) and the other from the Communist Party of Ecuador (PCE) — drew a clear political line across the international communist movement.

Both parties, united by shared ideological principles, issued sharp warnings about the so-called “World Anti-Imperialist Platform” (WAP), which they describe not as a vehicle for proletarian internationalism but as a reformist and openly anti-communist apparatus designed to align workers’ parties with the interests of one capitalist bloc against another.

Theses of the CC of the KKE: The current international reality and the stance of the international communist movement on imperialist wars

The Theses of the Central Committee of the KKE for the 22nd Congress provide a crucial and timely intervention in the international communist movement.

They address the serious ideological confusion that has intensified with the imperialist war in Ukraine, especially the widespread misinterpretations of imperialism and the alignment of several communist parties with one or another imperialist pole.

Statement by the Communist Party of Poland: "Our struggle continues"!

The shameful attempt of the Polish state to outlaw the Communist Party of Poland (Komunistyczna Partia Polski - KPP) has become a central front in the international struggle against anti-communism.

In recent weeks, the Polish authorities escalated their decade-long persecution by bringing the case before the Constitutional Tribunal in an effort to criminalize the Party’s very existence.

ALERT: Poland’s Constitutional Court bans Communist Party — Democracy under attack!

Today the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland issued a ruling declaring the Communist Party of Poland (KPP) unconstitutional and illegal, ordering its removal from the register of political parties.

The Tribunal’s decision follows a formal petition by the ultra-conservative Polish President Karol Nawrocki and finds that the aims and activities of the party violate the national constitution. The ruling effectively criminalizes the legitimate political activity of an established communist formation.

KKE-KNE protest at Polish Embassy in Athens against renewed persecution of the Communist Party of Poland

A delegation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), led by KKE MP Afroditi Ktena, carried out a militant protest today at the Embassy of Poland in Athens, condemning the continuation of the unacceptable anti-communist persecutions against the Communist Party of Poland. The attacks escalate once again on December 3 at the Constitutional Court, following a petition submitted by Poland’s President K. Nawrocki claiming “unconstitutionality of the aims and activity of the Communist Party of Poland.”

Russia: Marxists face 20-year sentences for studying Lenin’s “State and Revolution”!

A new peak of anti-communist repression is unfolding in today's Russia. On 25 November 2025, during the closing hearings at the Central Military Court of the Yekaterinburg District, the prosecution demanded 20 to 24 years in a high-security penal colony for the members of a Marxist study circle in the city of Ufa, accusing them of “terrorism” and “conspiracy to overthrow the government.”

The five defendants, detained since February 2022, reject all charges and have reported torture during their interrogation. Their legal ordeal has now lasted nearly two years, with the first court session held in December 2023.

Speech by Nikos Mottas on the commemoration of the ninth death anniversary of Fidel Castro

Speech (here in Greek) by Nikos Mottas at the event commemorating the ninth death anniversary of Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz, at Studio New Star Art Cinema, Athens, Greece, 27 November 2025:

"Ladies and gentlemen,

there is something I believe we must clarify from the very beginning: today we are not holding a political memorial. We have not gathered to nostalgically recall revolutionary glory of the past, nor to praise history as a harmless icon placed on a shelf. We are here to draw strength — and to extract conclusions — from an example that is more relevant than ever. To look at the world as it is — and as it can become, based on what history has already proven possible.

According to the authorities, the activists operated as an “organized group”, holding regular meetings, renting an office, and even setting up a small studio to record Marxist agitation.

Joint Statement of Communist and Workers’ Parties against the persecution of the Communist Party of Poland

Our parties strongly condemn the recent unacceptable action by Polish President Nawrocki, who has filed a motion with the Constitutional Court claiming that “the aims and activities of the Communist Party of Poland are unconstitutional”.

This is an unfounded motion and largely echoes similar attempts by bourgeois forces in the country five years ago to ban the CP of Poland, which ultimately did not proceed.

Communist and Workers' Parties: Joint Statement on the 108th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution

Adopted within the framework of the Internationalist Event for the October Revolution, organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) in Athens on 22–23 November 2025, and open for endorsement by other Communist and Workers’ Parties.

Joint Statement on the 108th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution

The Communist and Workers’ Parties signing this Joint Statement wish, among other means, to honour the October Revolution, which illuminated the strength of the revolutionary class struggle — the power of the exploited and oppressed — when they surge to the forefront and turn the wheel of history forward, towards social emancipation. It was a Revolution inseparably linked with the great revolutionary and theorist of scientific socialism, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
