75th Anniversary of the Victory over Nazis: Joint Statement of Communist and Workers' Parties

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the historic Victory of May 9, 1945, Communist and Workers' Parties from all over the world issued a joint statement, pointing out the following:

In the name of freedom, peace and truth — Against fascism and war.

The victory over Nazi-fascism in the Second World War is a major event in History, the memory of which must be preserved and defended in the face of repeated attempts at historical falsification aimed at making us forget the decisive role played by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, by the communists and by anti-fascists from around the world. 

9 May 2020: The European Communist Initiative for the People's Great Antifascist Victory

Statement by the European Communist Initiative on the 75th anniversary of the Great Antifascist Victory of 9th May 1945:

75 years ago, the Red Army raised the Red Flag in the heart of Berlin,signaling the great anti-fascist victory of the peoples and the defeat of Nazism, after a hard and bloody struggle, led by the Soviet Union, to which decisively contributed many anti-fascist partisans and movements, led by the CPs, from many countries who responded to the call, committed to crush the reactionary forces headed by Italy and Germany.

Joseph Stalin mosaic to be included in new Orthodox cathedral in Moscow

Stalin's military genius is recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church

Joseph Stalin, the man who led the Soviet Union in the triumphant victory over the Nazis in World War II, will be portrayed in the mosaics that will decorate a new Orthodox cathedral dedicated to Russia’s Armed Forces. 

According to Archpriest Leonid Kalinin, Chair of the Experts’ Council of Art, Architecture and Restoration of the Russian Orthodox Church, Stalin will be included in a mosaic entitled “The Victory Parade”, which was created based on photographs.

75 years since the liberation of Vienna by the Red Army — 75 Jahre Befreiung Wiens

On the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Vienna by the Red Army, the Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) issued the following declaration:

75 years since the liberation of Vienna

75 years ago, on 13 April 1945, the Red Army of the USSR won the Battle of Vienna. This ended the "Vienna Offensive", which cost the lives of almost 170,000 Soviet soldiers.

Communists, Anti-Fascists denounce Czech authorities over the removal of Konev's statue

As we wrote on April 3, the local authorities of Prague 6 municipality proceeded to the removal of the statue of Soviet Army commander and WW2 hero Ivan Konev. In a statement, the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) strongly protested the decision, pointing out that the "ruling elites of Prague" have no respect for the city's history and those who liberated the country from the nazis. 

The Party calls the removal of Konev's statue a "brutal and amoral act" and urges the people of the country to express their disagreement with this decision. KSČM demands from the Czech government to restore the statue immediately, while members of the Party organized a protest in the square where the statue of Konev was located.

Prague authorities show ingratitude towards Ivan Konev: Soviet hero's statue removed

Showing complete disrespect towards the city’s history, the municipal authorities of Prague 6 district proceeded today to the removal of the statue of Second World War hero and Red Army commander Ivan Spepanovic Konev. 

For a long time, under the tolerance of local authorities, the statue had been a target of vandalisms. Last August, unknown thugs had desecrated the monument with spray paint writing anti-soviet slogans. The attack took place on the eve of the 51st anniversary of the Soviet intervention against the counterrevolutionary uprising of 1968

Klostermarienberg 1945 — 75 years since the liberation of Austria by the Red Army

Joint declaration of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) and the Communist Youth Eisenstadt/Burgenland29 March 2020:

Exactly 75 years ago, on 29 March 1945 at 11.05 a.m., the first units of the Red Army of the USSR entered Austrian soil. This date therefore represents an important step in the liberation of Austria from fascist dictatorship and German foreign rule. 

Mobile motorized units of the Soviet 6th Guard Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front (led by Colonel General Andrei Kravchenko) crossed the border between Hungary and the province of Burgenland near Klostermarienberg (municipality of Mannersdorf an der Rabnitz), which at that time marked the German Reich border.

Greek Left's veteran Manolis Glezos dies at 98

Manolis Glezos, a resistance fighter during the Nazi occupation of Greece in the Second World War and a prominent figure of Greek left-wing politics, has died in Athens at the age of 98. 

Manolis Glezos acquired fame when, alongside his friend Apostolos Santas, climbed on the Acropolis on May 30, 1941 and tore down the Nazi swastika flag. This action became an inspiration for the people who were fighting against occupation, while Glezos and Santas were established as international anti-Nazi heroes.

KKE campaign to honor the 75th anniversary of the Anti-Fascist Victory of the People

On the occasion of the 75 years since the Anti-Fascist People’s Victory, the Party Organisations Abroad of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) organize a series of events that include visits in 75 anti-fascist memorials across Europe. The campaign is titled “1945-2020, 75 years of the Anti-Fascist Victory, 75 Anti-Fascist Memorials, Tribute to the People”.

As 902 portal reports “these events will give us the opportunity to honor the male and female fighters who sacrificed their lives throughout Europe, who were tortured, imprisoned and went into exile. To honor the decisive contribution of the USSR in the Anti-Fascist Victory as well as the undisputed superiority of socialism against capitalism”.

Party of Labour of Austria (PdA): Statement for the 75th anniversary of Auschwitz liberation

Declaration of the Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) for the 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army:

On 27 January 1945, Soviet Red Army soldiers from several infantry divisions of the 1st Ukrainian Front reached the concentration camps and the extermination camp of Auschwitz and liberated the remaining inmates. 

The German fascists had left behind only minimal military forces, but in battles in and around Oświęcim at least 230 Red Army soldiers died that day.

Communist MEP Lefteris Nikolaou blasts the EU for attempting to re-write History

"The EU will not succeed to re-write people's history, no matter how much anti-communist ink will spill" was the message delivered by the MEP of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos in his intervention during EU Parliament's plenary in Strasbourg. 

The debate's subject was "Distortion of European history and remembrance of the Second World War". In his intervention, the KKE MEP pointed out the following (translation from the Greek text):

Kyrgyzstan's Parliament attempts to restore the Nazi collaborationist "Turkestan Legion"

In a statement issued by the International Relations Section of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), the Party strongly denounces the attempt by Kyrgyzstan's Parliament to restore a Nazi collaborationist legion. 
The so-called "Turkestan SS Legion" was the name for military units which fought in the Wehrmacht during World War II
The statement of the KKE is the following:
"The KKE condemns the attempt to restore a legion of the SS which fought against ELAS with the bill that was tabled in the Kyrgyzstan Parliament.

Communists honoured the 75th anniversary of Belgrade's liberation from the Nazis

On October 20, the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NCP) marked the 75th anniversary of Belgrade’s liberation from the Nazi German occupation at the end of WWII.
The 75th anniversary of the “Belgrade Offensive” was commemorated by a Party ceremony, including laying wreaths at the Memorial Cemetery of Belgrade Liberators.
The tribute to the fallen heroes, members of the National Liberation Army and the Red Army was paid by the General Secretary of NKPJ with members of CC of NKPJ.

KKE denounces the unhistorical anti-communist fiestas of the European Union

The KKE MEPs, Lefteris Nikolaou and Kostas Papadakis.
Once again the European Union and the governments of the Baltic countries have promoted the commemoration of August 23rd as a "European Day of Remembrance for the victims of totalitaranism and authoritarian regimes". 

Towards this direction, they reproduce the unhistorical and dangerous equation of communism with fascism. 

In statement published in 902 portal, the delegation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) in the European Parliament denounces the unhistorical and anti-communist fiestas of the EU.

Lithuania: The sickle and hammer still frightens the country's ruling class...

The sickle and hammer still frightens the hell out of the ruling class of Lithuania. In an anti-communist rant, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania  Linas Linkevicius called on US e-commerce giant "Amazon" to stop selling Soviet-themed goods online, saying the hammer and sickle symbol "offended victims of totalitarian communism".

In a statement to the AFP, Linkevicius repeated the known unfounded anti-communist slanders by saying: "It is offensive. Stalinist crimes are not sufficiently well understood. It is a matter of historical justice".

Poland's right-wing government honors WW2 Nazi collaborators

event in Warsaw.
It has become a tradition for the bourgeois governments in the Baltic countries and Poland to pay tribute to various militant groups which collaborated with the Nazis in the Second World War. 

This time, it was the turn for the right-wing government of the ruling "Law and Justice" party in Poland to honor the veterans of the so-called "Holy Cross Mountains Brigade", an underground force that collaborated with Nazi German forces against the communists towards the end of the war.

Declaration of the KKE for the 74 years since the Great Anti-Fascist Victory of the People

In an announcement for the 74 years since the Great Anti-fascist Victory of the peoples, the Press Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) notes:

The anniversary of May 9, 74 years since the end of World War II, is not"Europe Day", as it has been unhistoricallyattempted to be established in the last few years by the representatives of this reactionary structure. It is the Day of the Great Anti-fascist Victory of the Peoples, the immortal epic of the Soviet Red Army and the Resistance movements of Europe, with the vanguard and decisive role of the Communist Parties.

Communist Party of Poland: Polish people owe their liberation to the Soviet Army

In a statement, the Communist Party of Poland (KPP) strongly denounces the recent demolition of the Red Army monument at Warsaw's Skaryszewski Park, comparing this practice of the Polish authorities to what the Islamic State did to historical sites in the Middle East. The Communist Party of Poland wishes to express its utmost indignation at the destruction of the monument commemorating the soldiers of the Red Army situated in the Skaryszewski Park in Warsaw.

KKE event in honor of the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Athens by EAM-ELAS

The Attica Party Organisation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) organizes on Saturday 13 October, at 6 pm, a political event in honor of the 74 years since the liberation of Athens by the ELAS resistance army

The event is going to take place at Korais Square and a keynote speech will be delivered by Louiza Razou, member of the Politburo of the CC of the KKE.

73 years since the nuclear holocaust in Japan - Statement by the WFTU

On the occasion of the 73 years since the dropping of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Secretariat of the World Federation of Trade Unions issued the following statement:
On August 6th 2018, seventy three years have completed since the crime in Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 9th, by the US Imperialism , which in 1945 deprived the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and thousands of others in the coming years due to the effects of radiation in the territory.
