Party of Labour of Austria (PdA): Strengthen the Marxist-Leninist pole of the international communist movement!

Resolution of the 6th Congress of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA), Linz, 10 February 2024:

The international communist movement continues to remain in a process of differentiation. It is the consequences of the counter-revolution in the USSR and Eastern Europe, but also a continuation of modern revisionism and "Eurocommunism" as well as the invention and propagation of false ideas and goals such as "market socialism" or a capitalism transformed into a "society of solidarity", which are unfolding their negative effects in the ICM.

Austrian Communists slam Zelensky's appearance at Vienna Parliament

The Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) sharply criticises the propaganda appearance of the Ukrainian president Zelensky in the Vienna parliament.

The representative of a war party as well as of a reactionary, repressive regime is out of place in the democratic heart of a neutral country. What is needed is a policy of neutrality and peace instead of NATO war propaganda.

What kind of “communists” were elected in Graz?

When the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) won the local elections in Graz, the country's second largest city, we did not hide our concern about the political orientation of the party. “The KPÖ is affiliated to the Party of the European Left, the political alliance which includes social democratic and opportunist forces, like Greece's SYRIZA, Germany's Die Linke and Spain's United Left”, we wrote.

Eventually, the KPO and its Graz branch has received strong, but justified, critique by the Party of Labour (PdA) which was formed in 2013 by a Marxist-Leninist breakaway faction of the KPÖ who disagreed with the party's opportunist turn. According to the Party of Labour's chairman, Tibor Zenker, the KPÖ “is not a Marxist-Leninist party”, while concepts such as class struggle, socialist revolution and communism are included neither in the rhetoric, nor in the activities, of the KPO ("Das dunkelrote Graz", zeitungderarbeit.at).

Vienna Attack: Statement by the Party of Labour of Austria

Statement by the Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) on the terrorist attack in Vienna:

We condemn yesterday's attack in Vienna, which according to initial information was carried out by a sympathizer of the "Islamic State". Our sympathy goes to the victims of this heinous terrorist attack, all civilians and police officers who were injured and all relatives who lost people.

Religious fundamentalism, as we see it today, is a product of imperialism and serves capital as an instrument of domination and power. In the countries of the Near and Middle East, it is precisely the most reactionary religious groups and states which are the closest allies of imperialism in the struggle against democratic and revolutionary movements.

Joint declaration of the Party of Labour of Austria (PdA) and the Communist Youth Eisenstadt/Burgenland29 March 2020:

Exactly 75 years ago, on 29 March 1945 at 11.05 a.m., the first units of the Red Army of the USSR entered Austrian soil. This date therefore represents an important step in the liberation of Austria from fascist dictatorship and German foreign rule.

Mobile motorized units of the Soviet 6th Guard Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front (led by Colonel General Andrei Kravchenko) crossed the border between Hungary and the province of Burgenland near Klostermarienberg (municipality of Mannersdorf an der Rabnitz), which at that time marked the German Reich border.

Vienna Protests: Thousands rallied against government's plans to extend working day to 12 hours

Tens of thousands of people in Vienna packed the streets on Saturday 30th June to voice their opposition to the new anti-worker laws of the far-right government which include a 12-hour workday and subsequent 60-hour workweek.

While Austrian police said some 80,000 people took part, organizers by the Austrian Trade Union Confederation talk about a massive demonstration of 100,000-120,000 participants from all provinces and industries.

"We will resist with all means at our disposal," Wolfgang Katzian, president of the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB), told the crowd of protesters. Katzian called on the Austrian government to let voters decide on the 12-hour workday issue in a referendum.
