Jean-Luc Godard: "Cannes Festival is a propaganda tool - Zelensky a bad actor"

The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival  kicked off on Sunday 22 May, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appearing on a video message during the opening night, giving a speech about the importance of film-making in the midst of war.

Commenting on Zelensky's propagandistic appearance at Cannes, the legendary French-Swiss film director Jean-Luc Godard, one of the most influential European filmakers of the 20th century, wrote:

Western media glorifying Ukraine's neo-Nazi criminals

The recent fights in Azovstal and the surrender of the paramilitaries to the Russian army, provided another opportunity to Western media to present them as heroes within the broader effort to “whitewash” the neo-Nazis of Azov Battalion. The fact that the Azov fighters are now part of the Ukrainian army do not absolve them from their Nazi ideology and the heinous crimes they have committed since 2014.

According to Reuters, in 2020 the number of paramilitaries in Ukraine reached 120,000, accounting for about 40% of the country's Armed Forces. Their ranks are filled by mercenaries of various nationalities, who were equipped, trained and funded by the United States, Canada, Britain and France.

KKE condemns blocking of "Russia Today" and "Sputnik" transmission in Greece

In a statement issued today the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) condemns the ban on the transmission of “Russia Today” and “Sputnik” news networks in Greece, calling it an “unacceptable and dangerous action”. The KKE also points out that the sanctions on RT and Sputnik is part of an effort to enforce the propaganda and fake news directed by the Euro-Atlantic side.

More analytically the KKE statement (here in Greek) reads:

Utanç Verici! Shameful exploitation of a little girl by warmonger Tayyip Erdogan

What else is Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan capable to do in order to publicly propagandize his government's warmongering plans? As we saw in international media and soL international reports, during an AK Party event in Kahramanmaraş province on February 24th, Erdogan promised  to honour a little girl with the Turkish flag if she were to be martyred.

Erdogan invited a little girl wearing special forces, nicknamed as 'maroon berets', uniform to the podium. As the six-year old girl was crying agitatedly, the President said:

The Death of Stalin: Vulgar anticommunism under the veil of "comedy"

"The Death of Stalin" is the title of the anticommunist film which is going to be screened on cinemas. The two-minutes trailer of the movie is enough for someone to understand that it is another case of crude and vulgar anticommunism, of distortion and counterfeiting of History, as long as it shows Stalin as the "fear and terror of the nation" and other personalities of the time (e.g. Marshall Zhukov) as miserable caricatures.

But the text of the [film's] synopsis by the distribution company ODEON which accompanies the movie and has been published in the media is also revealing. Promoting the film, the distribution company refers to it as "a comedy based on real events": "On the night of March 2, 1953, a man is dying. A terrible stroke is wracking his entire body. He is drooling. He is pissing himself... The man is Joseph Stalin, dictator, tyrant, butcher as well a Secretary General of USSR. ‘The Death of Stalin’ is a satire about the days before the funerals of the Nation’s Father. Days that shine a sardonic light on all the madness, depravity and inhumanity of totalitarianism. Days that will see the men surrounding him fight to inherit his supreme power. And it’s all based on true events."

The Reality About Venezuela: Five myths debunked

During the last months, the bourgeois mainstream media- as well as various sources throughout the internet- have circulated numerous lies and inaccuracies about the situation in Venezuela. Within this framework of half truths and counteless inaccurcies, someone can read the most outrageous things about the Latin American country. After all, the imperialist centers and their collaborators in the mass media are experts in how to mislead and manipulate public opinion, by sowing misinformation and distorting reality.

Here, we will refer to five major lies (really blatant ones) about Venezuela and the turbulent political situation in the country and we will try to restore the truth.

"Occupy Wall Street" movement shares reactionary propaganda against Venezuela

The tweet of "Occupy".
The reactionary, imperialist propaganda against Venezuela's government has found new promoters: The famous "Occupy Wall Street" movement seems to be one of them, as long as it uses Twitter in order to share reactionary views about what is happening in Venezuela.

More specifically, on 12 May 2017, the so-called "resistance movement" shared on Twitter an article of the New York Times titled "Venezuela Tries Protesters in Military Court 'Like We Are in a War'"

Since its establishment in 2011, the "Occupy" movement- a leaderless movement with hazy anticapitalist slogans- tried to absorb popular discontent (especially of the indignant youth) against the system without having a clear ideological basis.

Anti-DPRK propaganda exposed: Greek TV news presented still from Hollywood movie as real fact!

Greek TV news presented still from Hollywood movie as real fact!

Gaffe or deliberate propaganda? In the effort to vilify the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) all possible means can be used. In their news programs, two Greek TV channels- Epsilon and Alpha TV- used stills from the film "The Interview" (2014), which they presented as a real fact! More specifically, both TV channels used the film's opening scene where a little North Korean girl sings an anti-american song.

"Is for the United States to explode in a ball of fiery hell. May they starve and beg, and be ravaged by desease. May they be helpless, poor, sad and cold" say the lyrics of the film's opening scene, which Epsilon and Alpha TV presented as an actual fact that took place in the DPRK!
