D. Koutsoumbas: "The KKE joins the battle for the general elections with greater determination and optimism"

On Sunday 2/6, the 2nd round of the local elections was completed in Greece. In Patras, the communist mayor Kostas Peletidis was reelected with 70.22% of the vote, while in the other 4 municipalities where the candidates of "People's Rally" took part in the 2nd round, despite the high vote percentage (Kaisariani-47.18%, Petroupoli-49.01%, Haidari-46.02%, Ikaria-42.82%), the election of a communist mayor was not achieved.

The communist mayor of Patras, Greece's third largest city, Kostas Peletidis, has been re-elected in office in the second round of the local elections that took place on Sunday. 

Peletidis, who has the support of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), gained 70,91% winning a landslide victory over his opponent G. Alexopoulos.

Greece: Five communist mayors go to second round of local elections on June 2

The five communist (backed by the KKE) mayors are going to the second round of municipal elections in Greece, after the results of May 26th. 

The five mayors, heads of the "People's Rally" (Laiki Sispirosi) lists, will have the opportunity to re-claim their mayorship in the local elections run-off next Sunday 2 July. More specifically:

In Patras, mayor Kostas Peletidis received 40.59% of the votes (approximately 39,500 votes). 

In Kesariani, the heroic district of Athens, mayor Ilias Stamelos received 29.87% (app. 3,525 votes).

Dimitris Koutsoumbas: Statement on the results of the European and local elections of May 26th

In his statement to the mass media, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary  of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) noted the following regarding the results for the elections for the European Parliament and local administration: 
“First of all we would like to thank all of those who responded to KKE's call to join forces with it. All of those who honored us, participating in the Party ballot, but also all those who under difficult conditions came to the ballot box and voted for the KKE in the European Parliament elections and for “People's Rally” in the municipal and regional elections. We would especially like to thank all those who took that step for the first time, for the young men and women who gave their very first vote to our Party.

Athens turned red: Massive rally of the KKE sends message of hope and struggle (Photos)

A really massive and vivid rally of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) took place on Wednesday afternoon in central Athens, just 4 days before the double European and local elections of May 26th. 

Thousands of workers, young men and women, people of every age created a "red river" at Syntagma Square, sending a message of hope and struggle. 

The major speaker at the event was the KKE's General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas. The rally was attended by a delegation of the Communist Party, Italy (PC) headed by the General Secretary Marco Rizzo who delivered a greeting message.

"We trust KKE, the only party that doesn't divide workers by skin colour, language or religion"

Birgül Maksum is a young working woman from Western Thrace, which is home to a diverse muslim minority of approximately 120,000 Greek citizens of various ethnic origins (Turks, Pomaks, Roma, etc). She is also a candidate for the Regional Council of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace with the electoral list of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). 

Birgül was among the speakers during yesterday's KKE event in Komotini, which was attended by the Party's General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas who is currently visiting the region.

Koutsoumbas: The KKE's strengthening in all electoral and daily struggles is needed

A call to join the electoral and daily struggles of the KKE was delivered by the Communist Party of Greece's General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas during his speech at a political event held in Ioannina. 

The General Secretary pointed out that the major aim of the Party in the upcoming electoral battles (local elections, EU Parliament's elections and General Elections) is to deliver a united response to the attack unleashed by the EU, the capital, the governments and their parties, underlining that this can be achieved through the strengthening of the KKE everywhere, in every municipality, region and nationwide.

Communist candidate for mayor of Athens sends powerful message for struggle

"We say ity clearly, powerfully, honestly: A strong KKE in all ballots, in the municipality and the regional government. The "People's Rally", our list, can express a movement of struggle and change in Athens and Attica", said the Communist Party of Greece's (KKE) candidate for mayor of Athens Nikos Sofianos

Sofianos, a member of the Party's Political Bureau and an Athens city councillor since 2010, said that "during the difficult years of austerity, which still persists, we gave the struggle by supporting the people's demands, asserting measures, pressing for solutions on the difficult daily life of our people which is affected by the policy of the municipal authority."

Koutsoumbas calls for people's struggle and counter-attack with a strong KKE

“The justified indignation and dissatisfaction must be transformed into creativity and must be expressed through struggles, counter-attack and social alliance against the dipole, the monopolies and capitalist, with a powerful KKE everywhere” said the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas during an interview on 24/7 radio.

When asked whether the government will be politically legitimate after a possible departure of ANEL from the governmental alliance, Koutsoumbas said that “a government can exist event without the required formal majority. It is certainly a political issue and the government itself has to deal with it”.

Nikos Sofianos to be the Communist Party's candidate for mayor of Athens

Nikos Sofianos, an experienced cadre of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and a member of the Athens' City Council, will be the Party's candidate for the mayoralty of the Greek capital city in May 2019 elections. More specifically, the KKE Party Organisation of Attica announced the candidate mayors for the municipalities of Athens and Piraeus, as well as the candidate governor of Attica. 

For the municipality of Athens, the candidate will be Nikos Sofianos, 53, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the KKE, also member of the Athens City Council since 2010. He was the Secretary of the Central Council of the Communist Youth (KNE) from 1991 to 2001.
