D. Koutsoumbas: "The austerity memorandums must be thrown in the trashbin of history"

"Popular uprising everywhere. The memorandums of austerity must be thrown in the trashbin of history" said among other things the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas who attended the large strike demonstration in Athens on May 17. Talking to journalists, Secretary Koutsoumbas made the following statement:

"Actually, class war is now in progress, it is a marathon, not a rifle shot in the air. Class war must be a daily and lasting one. The harsh antipeople measures, the 4th memorandum along with the previous memorandums (of austerity) must be thrown in the trashbin of History and for that the only responsible are the Greek people, the labor-popular movement. 

For that reason, our call is: Popular uprising everywhere, not a day or hour must be gone; the struggle doesn't end today or tomorrow but continues.

A 24hr general strike will be held in Greece on 17 May 2017, as well as the strike rallies and demonstrations of the All-worker’s Militant Front (PAME) in dozens of cities, against the measures which the coalition government of the “Left” party of SYRIZA and the nationalist party of ANEL is bringing for discussion on that day in Parliament. 

Protest demonstrations will be organized by PAME all over the country on 18^th of May, the day the measures will be voted on.

The SYRIZA-ANEL government is bringing these measures after the negotiations with the imperialist unions of the EU and IMF for the 2^nd evaluation of the 3^rd Memorandum. It is clear from the results that the government negotiated with the lenders on behalf of the interests of the domestic monopoly groups and not the people, with the aim of accelerating the process of an exit from the capitalist crisis that favours capital.

65 years later, California abandons McCarthyism by repealing shameful anti-communist law

100 years after the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917 and almost 65 years since the end of McCarthyism's terror, the state of California may soon lift ban on communists working in the government. 

The California state assembly narrowly approved on May 8th the repealing an anti-communist discriminatory law which had been enacted during the second "Red Scare" (McCarthyist hysteria) of the 1940s and ’50s that banned Communists from holding jobs in government. It should be noted that, apart from Communist Party members, victims of this law were also people of left ideology and supporters of national liberation struggles. Everyone who was considered a supporter of the Left was affected by this law.

That period of McCarthyism led to the dismissal of thousands of workers in government positions, education, and unions. The bill must now pass through the state Senate for approval.

People Rise Up: Greece's Labour movement prepares for national General Strike on May 17

A nationwide General Strike is scheduled to take place on May 17, 2017 with rallies and demonstrations in Athens-Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Patras and all major cities of the country.

The reactionary, imperialist propaganda against Venezuela's government has found new promoters: The famous "Occupy Wall Street" movement seems to be one of them, as long as it uses Twitter in order to share reactionary views about what is happening in Venezuela. 

More specifically, on 12 May 2017, the so-called "resistance movement" shared on Twitter an article of the New York Times titled "Venezuela Tries Protesters in Military Court 'Like We Are in a War'". 

Since its establishment in 2011, the "Occupy" movement- a leaderless movement with hazy anticapitalist slogans- tried to absorb popular discontent (especially of the indignant youth) against the system without having a clear ideological basis.

On the occassion of the 87 years since the birth of the Colombian guerrilla leader, founder of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People's Army (FARC-EP) Manuel "Tirofijo" Marulanda (1930-2008), we remember some basic aspects of his life.

Manuel Marulanda Velez, founder of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and its leader until his death, was a man firmly and decisively committed to the campesinos of Colombia and their liberation.

It is said that Marulanda was so thoroughly a man of the countryside that in his entire life he never set foot in the Colombian capital of Bogota.

He died of natural causes eight years ago today, March 26, 2008.

The KKE denounces the persecution of communists (cadres of RCWP) by the Russian authorities

PCRF: Emmanuel Macron embodies the reactionary values of the bourgeoisie / The only alternative is the creation of a strong Communist Party

Emmanuel Macron is the new President of France. In the second round of the french presidential elections the candidate of the "En Marche!" movement gained 66% of the votes, while Marine Le Pen, of the far-right "Front National" received 34%. Macron and Le Pen represent the two sides of the same coin: they are both parts of the capitalist system, expressing the aspirations and goals of different sections of the french capital. 

In a statement regarding the result of the elections, the Parti Communiste Révolutionnaire de France (Revolutionary Communist Party of France-PCRF) characterizes Emmanuel Macron as "the reactionary continuity at the Elysee" and "a man of the french bourgeoisie". 

According to the PCRF the result of the elections "is the result of a formidable mobilization of the propaganda and communication apparatus of monopoly capital". "Under these conditions", writes the PCRF, "our Party welcomes all those who refused to endorse the masquerade Le Pen-Macron by abstaining, voting white or none!".

KKE on French Elections: "Macron's prevalence doesn't consist a real victory for the people"

Commenting on the result of the French Presidential Elections and the electoral victory of Emmanuel Macron*, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) stresses out:

"The prevalence of Macron against the reactionary, repulsive candidacy of Le Pen consists a victory for those sections of the capital which are steadily oriented to the EU and the Eurozone, in contrast with those which- for their own interests- challenge this route. Macron too, like the previous ones (presidents), will kneel down the French people with new measures in favor of the capital. "Our revenge will be the laughter of our children"- Bobby Sands 1954-1981

Bobby Sands (1954-1981), a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army, died on hunger strike while imprisoned at HM Prison Maze on 5 May 1981. He was the first of ten hunger strikers to be murdered by Thatcher's government in its battle to crush the Irish republican movement through the use of the infamous H-Block prisons. On the occassion of the 36th anniversary since his death we remember who Sands was and what he stood for.

Bobby Sands, Roibeard Gearóid Ó Seachnasaigh, was born in 1954 in Rathcoole, a predominantly loyalist district of north Belfast. His twenty-seventh birthday fell on the ninth day of his sixty-six-day hunger strike. His sisters Marcella, one year younger, and Bernadette, were born in April 1955 and November 1958, respectively. All three lived their early years at Abbots Cross in the Newtownabbey area of north Belfast.

The KKE is informed and follows with great care the developments in the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE).We know that today intense pressure is being exerted on the communist movement, on every CP, in the conditions of the negative international correlation of forces, with the aim that they abandon the revolutionary strategy, are co-opted into the capitalist system and become a force that manages the system. This is not something new in Spain, which saw the strong opportunist current of Eurocommunism in the ranks of the CP of Spain. The PCPE, which emerged as force that confronted the current of Eurocommunism, has developed long-term comradely relations with the KKE, which waged a major political fight against the corresponding opportunist current in our country. The social-democratic party SYRIZA emerged from this opportunist current and later gathered together all the rotten elements that social-democratic PASOK provided.

The death of Fidel Castro last November unfolded, both in Greece as well as internationally, an orchestrated attack against the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and socialist Cuba. 

A patchwork of anticommunism, from the far-right to the edge of social democracy, didn't lose the opportunity to slander the cuban revolutionary, either by attributing to him various characterizations (e.g dictator, controversial personality, etc) or by reproducing proven lies about his supposed fabulous wealth and personal life.

They tried to vilify Fidel with numerous slanders.... That he was a dictator who installed a repressing establishment, that socialism was proved- as some claimed- a 'chimera' which gave birth to authoritarianism, lack of democracy and freedom.

"The new agreement of the SYRIZA-ANEL government with the Quartet, which typically and in fact consists a new memorandum, with new harsh measures against employees, pensioners, self-employed people, confirms once more that the government does the "dirty job" on behalf of the capital. 

The new agreement consists a new attack on the people's income, new large cuts in pensions and benefits, new structural measures for the benefit of the monopolies, such as the substantial abolition of the Sunday holiday and the expansion of privatizations.

On the occasion of the joint resolution adopted by the EU Parliament with the votes of the MEPs from the European People's Party, the Socialists & Democrats, Conservatives-Reformists and Liberals (ALDE) regarding the situation in Venezuela, the Europarliament Group of the KKE (Communist Party of Greece) issued the following statement: 

"The Europarliament Group of the KKE voted against the resolution which was filed at the EU Parliament by the EU People's Party, the Social Democrats, the Liberals and the Conservatives-Reformists about the situation in Venezuela. The resolution, which supports the opposition parties, calls, among others, the high representative of the Union for foreign affairs "to actively explore with international and regional organisations other measures that would enable the EU to restore full democracy to Venezuela". That is in fact another resolution of the Europarliament, like the previous ones regarding Syria, Libya, Ukraine etc, that consists a precursor and preparation for imperialist interventions of the EU, alongside the USA and other imperialist organisations, such as NATO.

THESSALONIKI- A political event in honor of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz was held on Friday in Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki. The event, which was co-organised by the local Greek-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity and the Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace, was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Greece Ms. Zelmys María Domínguez Cortina and the Embassy's councellor Mr. Jose Oriol Marrero Martinez. 

Major speakers at the event were the Professor of Contemporary History at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Giorgos Margaritis, the Secretary General of the Greek-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity Nikos Mottas and the Secretary General of the Greek Commitee for International Detente and Peace Nikos Zokas. 

October Revolution's 100th anniversary: Leningrad will host the 19th IMCWP on November

Twenty-seven Communist and Workers' Parties from all over the world gathered in Moscow for a two day meeting of the Working Group (WG) of the 19th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP).

In their news programs, two Greek TV channels- Epsilon and Alpha TV- used stills from the film "The Interview" (2014), which they presented as a real fact! More specifically, both TV channels used the film's opening scene where a little North Korean girl sings an anti-american song.

The importance and timeliness of Lenin's work on the state. 

100 years ago, a few months before the Great October Socialist Revolution and in particularly difficult and complex political conditions, V.I. Lenin wrote a fundamentally important work, "The State and Revolution", which, of course, was published for the first time after the October Revolution in 1918.

In this work, Lenin highlighted the essence and analyzed the class nature of the state: “The state is a product and a manifestation of the irreconcilability of class antagonisms. The state arises where, when and insofar as class antagonisms objectively cannot be reconciled. And, conversely, the existence of the state proves that the class antagonisms are irreconcilable.”[1]

soL: What can you say right away about the results of the referendum?

KO: We cannot talk about an arithmetical result. They did something they are good at, and they have stolen the results. Our logic, our mind and conscience tell us that ‘No’ won in arithmetic terms, too. 

Yet, there are other results. First of all, we see all they could muster despite all their repression, exploitation of public resources, and fraud; the picture speaks for itself. We saw that in reality their followers do not add up to more than 40 percent of the population in Turkey.

While Turkey prepares for the referendum on April 16, the Governorship of Istanbul banned the rally of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) that was scheduled to be held on April 8 in Istanbul, claiming there was no adequate police force. On the call of the party, thousands of people headed into street across the country on April 8 to show that the government will not be able to silence the voice of the working people.

TKP members and the friends of the party came together in many cities with the party’s weekly journal ‘Boyun Eğme’ (Do Not Surrender). Those who say "Not Enough but No!" distributed tens of thousands of election bulletins of TKP.

Throughout the centuries the Korean Peninsula has been drawn to a vortex of the vicious cycle of the escalation of the tension year after year. 

There surely exists a problem on the Korean Peninsula, which has drawn the attentions and interests of the world and also made a number of politicians, policymakers and experts to argue over the “solutions” for some decades. 

The dominant viewpoint of the mostexperts on the Korean affairsis that the “the Korean Peninsula Issue is the North Korean Nuclear Issue” and the prospect of its solution seems vague like a “chicken and egg story”. They are “differentiating” the Korean Peninsula by asserting that there should never be nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula and the possession of the nuclear weapons by the DPRK invites more tension on the Korean Peninsula.
