European Parliament Resolution whitewashes Syria's Jihadist regime

In a statement (here in Greek), the Europarliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounces the recent resolution - jointly adopted by the European People's Party (EPP), Social Democrats (S&D), Liberals, the Far-right and Greens – regarding the situation in Syria

The Resolution, which was issued  on the occasion of the terrorist bomb attack at Mar Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus, consists a “whitewash of the reactionary government of the Jihadists, who have been dressed with Euro-Atlantic costumes and “sat on the neck” of the Syrian people, following the long-standing interventions of USA-NATO-EU and the military assistance of Turkey and Israel, which also occupy Syrian territories”, the KKE statement reads and adds:

“The EU has presented its credentials to the jihadist regime, just as the New Democracy government did, with the visit of Foreign Minister Gerapetritis in Damascus. The parties that co-sign the resolution bear significant responsibility for their support to the jihadist regime, especially since it is planning a “Turkish-Syrian Agreement” with the bourgeois class of Turkey for the designation of maritime zones that grossly violates the sovereign rights of Greece and Cyprus, on the steps of the baseless “Turkey-Libya Agreement”.

The KKE Europarliament Group also notes:

“The resolution provocatively confirms EU's support for the jihadists, to whom it entrusts the “political transition in Syria based on human rights”, iniatiates the lifting of sanctions and calls on the EU to fund them as well, through the establishment of a “Reconstruction Fund” for Syria. The resolution provokes amusement when it calls on the jihadists to appoint “independent committees” to investigate the crimes they themselves committed. In other words, it puts the wolf in charge of guarding the sheep while, otherwise, expressing... concern. The resolution also aligns with the US decision to remove the armed jihadist gang of Al-Jolani from the list of terrorist organizations. The deadly attack on the church, a continuation of the horrific crimes of the jihadists against their political opponents, national and religious minorities, women, and children, exposes the EU and the bourgeois governments that brazenly label Syria as a "safe country" in order to deport uprooted refugees, based on the provisions of the reactionary EU Migration Pact”.

"The peoples can put their stamp on developments, with their own independent struggle, taking their future into their own hands, free from the barbaric exploitative system and its crimes," concludes the KKE statement.
