Enjoying Capitalism? New York City's homeless reach 80,000, highest since Great Depression

New York City, the metropolis of U.S capitalism, hasn't been unaffected by the crisis of the capitalist system. The homeless population in the most populous city in the United States, has surged in recent years to 80,000 people, according to The Bowery Mission, a 150-year-old agency serving the hungry and homeless, citing federal data.

"Homelessness in New York City has reached the highest levels since the Great Depression of the 1930s," Fox News on Wednesday quoted the Coalition for the Homeless as saying.

KKE denounces new incident of anti-communism in the European Parliament

The European Parliament continues being an endless source of anti-communist propaganda. In a statement published on 902.gr portal, the EU Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounces a new anti-communist resolution which repeats the known slanders against the Soviet Union and socialism.

More specifically, in a joint resolution under the name “Human rights violations in the context of forced deportation of Ukrainian civilians to and forced adoption of Ukrainian children in Russia”, the European People's Party (EPP), Social Democrats, Liberals, Greens and the far-right Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), included an unacceptable paragraph, completely unrelated to the topic and content of the text, which aims to distort reality by equating today's capitalist Russia with the Soviet Union!

The intensification of exploitation in monopoly capitalism continues to produce modern ways of slavery, which was particularly escalated during the two years of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020-2022. 

Fifty million people around the world are trapped in forced labor or forced marriage, the UN said Monday, warning that their ranks had swelled dramatically in recent years.

The study by the UN's agencies for labor and migration along with the Walk Free Foundation found that at the end of last year, 28 million people were in forced labor and 22 million living in a marriage they had been forced into. That means nearly one out of every 150 people in the world are caught up in modern forms of slavery, the report said. The Covid pandemic, which worsened conditions and swelled debt levels for many workers, has heightened the risk, the survey found.

KKE bids farewell to iconic actress Irene Pappas

In a statement issued today, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) bids farewell to the iconic Greek actress Irene Pappas who died at the age of 96 in Athens. 

 

With a career spanning more than half a century, Pappas starred in over 70 films, including  award-winning films as "The Guns of Navarone" and "Zorba the Greek".

Communist actor, former KKE MP Kostas Kazakos dies

Prominent Greek actor and director with a career that spans 60 years, Kostas Kazakos, died today in Athens aged 87.

Having studied at the famous Karolos Koun Drama School, he made his stage debut in 1957 and then collaborated with many stage groups. He participated in numerous Greek films.

He stood against the military dictatorship that was imposed in 1967 and was imprisoned in 1973, just a year before the Junta's fall. 

USA: Solidarity with the nurses' strike in Minnesota and Wisconsin

The largest private sector nurses' strike in US history kicked off Monday, organisers said, with some 15,000 workers in hospitals across Minnesota and Wisconsin demanding better working conditions and higher wages.

Strikes in the United States have occurred regularly over the past year, with employees reporting to be exhausted by working during the Covid-19 pandemic and struggling with price rises.

Turkey: Communist Party's 102nd founding anniversary celebrated in Istanbul

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) celebrated its 102nd anniversary with a political and cultural event held in Istanbul. Under the slogan “victory belongs to the workers who resist”, ETF workers who have been fighting for their rights entered the hall receiving the warm applause by the large crowd, including workers, unionists, associations' members, young men and women.

Speaking at the opening of the event, the head of TKP Istanbul Provincial Organization Senem Doruk Inam underlined: “We know that we can rebuild this country together. The owners of this country can and will rule this country”.

Thousands joined PAME rally in Thessaloniki, sending powerful message to Mitsotakis' government

Thousands of workers, self-employed people, farmers, pensioners, young men and women participated on Saturday evening in a massive rally organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) and Trade Unions on the occasion of the inauguration of the 86th Thessaloniki International Fair by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Under the slogan "Organization and Struggle for contemporary rights" a large number of protesters from the city of Thessaloniki as well as from other regions of northern Greece sent a militant message to New Democracy (ND) conservative government.

Greece: The KKE at the side of workers and students

On 8/9, a delegation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) was once again at the side of the striking workers of “Malamatina”, a large wine production company in Thessaloniki, who continue their multi-day struggle. The delegation of the KKE conveyed the message that the KKE will continue to support their just struggle with all its might.

The strikers demand the revocation of 15 dismissals and the signing of a Collective Labour Agreement.

KKE MEPs: The European Union encourages and promotes the destruction of Soviet WWII monuments

The MEPs of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) denounced the destruction of monuments of the great Anti-fascist Victory of the Peoples, which is taking place with the encouragement of the EU, by submitting a Question to the European Commission.

They note that “After the dissolution of the USSR, a plan of destruction and vandalism of monuments commemorating the Great Anti-fascist Victory of the Peoples is being implemented in several EU member states. These provocative actions have multiplied since the imperialist conflict in Ukraine.

West Bengal: Brutal police attack against Communist Party activists

On August 31st civil disobedience movements were held at all district headquarters in Bengal, India, marking the martyrdom of over 80 people who were killed in the historic food movement in 1959. 

 

In Purba Bardhaman district headquarters, without provocation, the police unleashed first water cannons, then a brutal lathi-charge and teargas on the peaceful protestors who were marching to meet the District Magistrate at his office.

Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, the man who betrayed the dreams and expectations of his own people, has died at 91. His biological death bears little importance. In fact, in the consciousness and hearts of the working class people all over the world Gorbachev had died a long time ago, when he consciously decided to become the gravedigger of the first socialist state in human history, the Soviet Union. 

Swaziland: Mswati and his murderous regime are becoming increasingly isolated

In line with the Communist Party of Swaziland’s call for the boycott of Mswati’s umhlanga ritual, young girls in Swaziland have overwhelmingly rejected the annual exploitative ritual. 

Escorted buses and lorries, dispatched by Mswati all over Swaziland to fetch young girls, returned empty from pick-up points. This is a victory for all Swazis. Mswati and his murderous regime are becoming increasingly isolated. 

This overwhelming boycott is yet another act which proves beyond any doubt that Swazis are fed up with Mswati and his autocratic tinkhundla system as well its backward practices. 

Traitor Mikhail Gorbachev dies at 91

Mikhail Gorbachev, the counterrevolutionary who betrayed the dreams and aspirations of millions of people in the former Soviet Union, has died at the age of 91. 

"Gorbachev passed away tonight after a serious and protracted disease," Interfax news agency cited Russia's Central Clinical Hospital as saying in a statement.

Gorbachev will be buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery next to his wife Raisa, who died in 1999, said Tass news agency, citing the foundation that the former Soviet leader set up once he left office.

Turkey: Communist, Left parties formed the “Union of Socialist Forces”

An electoral alliance under the name “Union of Socialist Forces” (Sosyalist Güç Birliği) was formed in Turkey in order to context in the upcoming general elections which are due to be held on 18 June 2023.

Under the slogan “We protect the future of our country together”, the electoral alliance was announced on August 20th during a press conference in Ankara. 

 

The participatory parties include the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), the Left Party (SOL), the Communist Movement of Turkey (TKH) and the Revolution Movement (Devrim Hareketi). 

Karl Marx statue unveiled next to Lenin in Germany's Gelsenkirchen

In June 2020, a 2-meter (6.5-foot) statue of Vladimir Lenin had been unveiled at the headquarters of the Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany (MLPD) in Gelsenkirchen. But, what is better than a statue of Lenin? Answer: Two statues, one of Lenin and one of Marx.

Yesterday, August 27, a 2.1-meter aluminum statue of Karl Marx took its position next to Lenin's. Approximately 1,200 people gathered outside the MLPD headquarters to attend the event for the monument's presentation.
