Among those detained are 27 Greek activists, including one Greek Parliament member, prompting urgent calls from the party for their immediate release and safe return to Greece.
At the European level, KKE’s delegation to the European Parliament addressed a formal letter to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. The letter denounces what it calls a “provocative and unacceptable” attack by Israeli armed forces against a peaceful humanitarian initiative. The KKE MEPs, stressed that this incident is part of the wider context of Israel’s ongoing war against the Palestinian people, carried out with the tolerance and complicity of the EU and the United States.
On Friday 3/10 the KKE reiterated its longstanding demand that the Greek government end all forms of political, economic, and military cooperation with Israel. It also underlined the need for Greece and the EU to take a clear stance in defense of international law, the rights of the Palestinian people, and the safety of those who stand in solidarity with them.
