Greece: Action Day on Healthcare "We break the silence- Masked mouths still have a voice"

Under the slogan “We break the silence, we raise our voice for the people’s health”, numerous class workers’ unions, unions of doctors and medical staff, participate in today’s Action Day throughout Greece

The Action Day on Healthcare has been an initiative of the Association of Hospital Doctors of Greece (OENGE) which has been in the front line of the struggle for the protection of the people’s health during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

Symbolic protests outside hospitals and mobilizations by workers’ unions in labour places are some of the actions that are taking place today in Athens and other Greek cities, demanding from the government to take measures for the protection of the working people’s health.

According to 902 portal, mobilizations have already organized outside the hospitals Attikon, Evangelismos, Laiko, Gennimatas, Asklipio in Athens, while trade union members and workers have proceeded to informational interventions in large workplaces.

Basic demands of the Action Day on Healthcare are:

-Mass recruitments of doctors, nurses and healthcare personnel.
-Complete requisition, without preconditions, of private healthcare sector infrastructure (clinics, beds, ICUs, laboratory equipment, etc) and incorporation of the private healthcare personnel in the state plan against the COVID-19 pandemic.
-Immediate supply of all necessary personal protective equipment for all healthcare personnel.
