80 years since Fulton: Churchill’s imperialist manifesto against Socialism

By Nikos Mottas

On 5 March 1946, less than a year after the defeat of Nazi Germany, Winston Churchill stood before an audience at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, and delivered the speech that would soon be known as the “Iron Curtain” speech.

In Western political mythology, the address is often portrayed as a prophetic warning about Soviet expansion. In reality, it was something quite different: a calculated ideological declaration of hostility toward the socialist world and one of the founding political acts of the Cold War.

World Federation of Trade Unions calls for solidarity week with Cuba

WFTU Solidarity Week with Cuba

There is no doubt that the aggressive and warmongering nature of imperialism is manifested in its most stark and most undisguised way today.

The massacre and genocide of Palestinians in Gaza by the murderous Israeli state with the open support of the US, NATO, and the EU, and their allies, the attacks against Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and the aggressive war against Iran, the invasion of Venezuela by the US army and the kidnapping of President Maduro and Cilia Flores are actions that remind us once again how ruthless imperialism can be in order to promote the economic and geostrategic interests of monopoly capital and the dominant circles of capitalism.

International Women’s Day 2026: Statement of the European Communist Action

Every March 8th, and through our daily struggle, one of the main lessons the first communist women gave to us on March 8th, 1917 takes on great significance: the struggle for the rights of working-class women is inseparable from the struggle of the working class as a whole. Against exploitation, precariousness, and violence against women, class conscience and collective struggle are essential tools to advance towards the real emancipation of women.

Shut Down All U.S–British Bases in Greece and Cyprus!

By Nikos Mottas

The recent alert in Cyprus following threats of Iranian drone and retaliatory missile strikes once again exposes a dangerous reality that governments in Athens and Nicosia persistently attempt to obscure: the presence of U.S., NATO and British military bases turns both Greece and Cyprus into potential targets in an expanding imperialist war.

For days now, the wider region has been moving ever closer to the possibility of a generalized confrontation in the Middle East. The escalation triggered by the aggressive policies of the United States and Israel against Iran has already created a climate of extreme tension across the entire Eastern Mediterranean.
