The lives of Comrades Fathi Alfadl and Ali Sa’id, members of the Political Bureau of the Sudanese Communist Party, who were detained by the security forces of the dictatorial regime, are in real danger because of mistreatment and lack of medical attention. This has been confirmed by a journalist, Adel Klour, who was released three days ago after being detained with the two comrades and other political activists in the same cell for more than four weeks.
Comrade Fathi Alfadl, who is also the official spokesman of the party, was detained by the security forces on 9th January 2019. Comrade Ali Sa’id was detained on 20th January as he left the party headquarters in Khartoum.
We hold the regime and its security services fully responsible for the safety and health of the two comrades, as well the other members of the party’s Central Committee and tens of its cadres, who are still in detention.
Among the 16 members of the Central Committee who were detained since the popular uprising began on 19 December 2018, is Comrade Faiza Ibrahim Nuqud, who is in her eighties. On Sunday, 10 February 2019, hundreds of protesters marched on the Women’s Prison in Omdurman, demanding the release of women detainees held there including Faiza Nuqud. The “Rally for Women Detainees” was called by the Sudanese Professionals Association. It is an umbrella body of doctors, engineers, teachers and other professional which is spearheading the protest campaign against the dictatorial regime of Omar al-Bashir.
We urgently call on all fraternal parties to intensify the international solidarity campaign and demand that the families of comrades Fathi Alfadl and Ali Sa’id be allowed immediately to visit them in prison accompanies by doctors. They are entitled to family visits after 15 days of detention, even according to the existing unjust law national security.
* Save the lives of Comrades Fathi Alfadl and Ali Sa’id.
* Call for the immediate and unconditional release of all political detainees in Sudan.
