Large political rally by Greek and Turkish communists held in Lesvos: Socialism is the future!

Under the slogan “In Greece and Turkey, the enemy is the same: NATO – governments – capitalism! Socialism is the future!”, hundreds of communists from the two countries participated in a large rally held on Saturday 10 July in Mytilene, Lesbos,

The rally was organized within the framework of the 30th Anti-imperialist camp of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE).

"The real enemy isn't the neighboring countries, but capitalism, its monopolies and their imperialist alliances", underlined Dimitris Koutsoumbas, the General Secretary of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), during his greeting speech at Sappho Square in Mytilene.

From his side, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), Kemal Okuyan, noted that "the communists of Greece and Turkey gained strength from each other and will win" and added: "We will certainly win. In the days of triumph of our red banner, our youth will be dancing zeybek and sirtaki and we are going to establish a brand new life".

The event was opened by Kostas Rigas, Secretary of the Lesvos Sectoral Committee of the KKE, who welcomed the comrades from Turkey.

The major speech was delivered by the Secretary of KNE, Nikos Abatielos. At the end of his speech, while the "Internationale" was being heard through the loudspeakers, 30 torches were lit symbolizing the number of KNE's Antiimperialist camps to day.

As 902 portal reports, a special moment in the political event was when the KKE General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas received the "Mustafa Souphi Friendship Award" by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP). TKP's Kemal Okuyan also offered to Koutsoumbas a portrait of Nikos Zachariadis, KKE's historic leader in the first half of the 20th century, which was painted by Turkish communist artists Irfan Ertel.
