"No trust in the social democratic government of PSOE-Unidas Podemos" - PCTE statement

The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE) issued a statement on the occasion of the investiture of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his social democratic coalition government.
The statement reads:
After more than eight months of deadlock, and through two electoral processes, the candidate of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), Pedro Sánchez, has been invested as Prime Minister.

He has been elected in the second vote and with a minimum margin, with the main support of Unidas Podemos and regionalist and peripheral nationalist organizations. The current term will be the first one in the history of Spain after the Transition when a Government of coalition will be formed between several political forces. The novelty manifests the need and resources for updating and reshaping Spanish capitalism before a scene of both political and economic wide instability.
The so-called Government of “Progressive Coalition” between PSOE and Unidas Podemos is born strongly conditioned by its parliamentary weakness and the complicated balance of powers within it. But its troubles go far beyond: it is a Government which depends on a wide a complex amalgam of political forces, with disparate interests, to approve any initiative – beginning with the State General Budgets –, and which will have to face an opposition encouraged by the most reactionary and radicalized sections of the Spanish bourgeoisie. This complex picture reflects one of the significant keys to understand the current political moment in Spain: the struggle between different sections of the bourgeoisie in the country.
In this background, it is necessary to understand that no social-democratic patch has the ability to prevent what is a dynamic inherent to capitalism: to keep on making the powerful wealthier at the expense of the weakest. The only thing that is being discussed is the pace at which this is done.
Having these premises in mind, the new Government of social-democratic coalition will do nothing but managing the capitalist exploitation, without questioning not even one of the key elements of the system. In the background of deceleration and a looming economic crisis, the PSOE and UP Government will be forced to reinforce the symbolic nature of some measures, against the more than probable cut of rights and the setback in historic social gains.
In this way, one of the main tasks of the new Government will be to contain the mass mobilizations, under a bombastic rhetoric of the defense of democracy and anti-fascist responsibility. The defense and the demand of trust in the institutionalism of the State by PSOE and UP will nevertheless contribute to strengthen the most reactionary stances. The underpinning of capitalism in moments of crisis or instability, instead of its overthrow, serves to make the most violent choices of capitalist management take over.
If the most reactionary stances of the Spanish bourgeoisie keep on growing, it will be because of the trap of illusion and trust in a determined management of capitalism. And both the PSOE and Unidas Podemos will be responsible for such situation.
The PCTE restates its commitment to urgently build an independent force that the working class of this country requires, a strong and organized Communist Party. In turbulent times, strong steps forward.
No trust in the Government of Social-democracy. The only way to brake the far-right is to strengthen the Communist Party.
More Communist Party. More PCTE.
