Swedish communists record best election result of the 2000s

The Communist Party of Sweden (SKP) says it has achieved its best result in a parliamentary election so far this century, according to preliminary figures from Sweden’s 2026 general election.

As Riktpunkt reports, with just over 60 percent of electoral districts counted, the SKP had already surpassed its 2022 result, which had fallen only one vote short of the party’s previous best parliamentary performance of the 2000s, recorded in 2002. The party said the final tally was still pending, but that the upward trend was already clear.

Today, that illusion is increasingly difficult to sustain.

Speaking in Stockholm on August 15, Sörensen argued that Sweden’s much-praised democracy rests on deeply unequal conditions.
