Communist Party of Israel concludes 29th Congress, reaffirms Arab-Jewish unity and support for Palestinian statehood

The Communist Party of Israel (Maki) concluded its 29th Congress, held February 12–14, 2026, in the northern city of Shefa-Amr, adopting a broad set of political resolutions and organizational decisions. 

 

The congress reaffirmed the party’s Marxist-Leninist foundations and outlined its positions on the Palestinian question, the status of Arab citizens of Israel, social and economic justice, democratic freedoms, and global geopolitical developments.

 

KKE calls on Mitsotakis government to reject Trump’s “Peace Council” invitation

In a statement (here in Greek) regarding the invitation extended by Trump to the Greek government to participate in the so-called “Board of Peace” the Press Office of the Central Committee of the KKE stresses the following:

“The Greek government must, without hesitation, reject Trump’s invitation to the upcoming meeting of the so-called “Board of Peace”, whose aim is to implement the plan to turn Gaza into a US–Israeli protectorate and an “El Dorado”  for investments, in which there will be no place for the homeland of the long-suffering Palestinian people.

His words, wrapped in a language of faith and reconciliation, revealed the fundamental logic of imperialism: domination disguised as partnership, subordination repackaged as sovereignty.

KKE leader Koutsoumbas meets Palestinian Foreign Minister, reiterates unwavering solidarity

Dimitris Koutsoumbas, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), reaffirmed the party’s steadfast solidarity with the Palestinian people during a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Varsen Aghapekian Sahin.

The meeting took place at the Embassy of Palestine in Athens and was attended by KKE representatives, including Politburo Member and MP Giorgos Marinos as well as Elias Nasir from the Party’s International Relations Section.

In a defiant act of moral clarity, two members of Hadash — Ayman Odeh and Ofer Cassif — rose in the Knesset today to break the silence, demanding that the United States immediately recognize Palestinian statehood. Their banner, reading simply “Recognize Palestine,” became a weapon in itself — a call to justice echoing through the marble halls of Israel’s legislature.

As President Trump addressed the Knesset, receiving thunderous applause for his hawkish vision, Odeh and Cassif stood.

The communist movement in Palestine and Israel is as old as the twentieth century upheavals that reshaped the Middle East. It is not the story of dominant political forces or large armies, but of a small and persistent current that, for over a century, has tried to carve out a political path distinct from partition, conquest, and exclusion. Palestinian and Israeli communists—Arabs and Jews—built joint organizations, resisted colonialism, opposed military occupation, and spoke for coexistence at moments when the surrounding climate favored division and hostility.

KKE demands the immediate release of Greek flotilla activists detained by Israeli forces

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has intensified its actions following the Israeli military’s raid on the “Global Sumud Flotilla", a humanitarian mission carrying aid to the besieged people of Gaza. 

Among those detained are 27 Greek activists, including one Greek Parliament member, prompting urgent calls from the party for their immediate release and safe return to Greece.

Where is China and Russia when Palestine needs them?

Across the left, there are currents — from communist parties to broader progressive forces — that elevate China and Russia as the “anti-imperialist” counterweight to U.S. hegemony. Within the ideological framework of so-called multipolarity, these states are portrayed as the alternative power bloc that will restrain imperialism and give oppressed nations breathing space. 

Yet Palestine exposes this myth. As Gaza burns, Moscow and Beijing issue statements while preserving trade, diplomacy, and investment with Netanyahu Government. Their actions reveal not liberation, but complicity.

Israeli Society Must Rise: Ofer Cassif Calls to Resist Fascism and Genocide

In an interview published by Zo HaDerech, Knesset Member Ofer Cassif (Hadash–Communist Party of Israel) issued one of his sharpest denunciations yet of Israel’s political direction. With uncompromising clarity, Cassif accused the government of orchestrating genocide in Gaza, ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, and erecting what he calls a fascist regime within Israel itself.

“Stop the Genocide”: Giant Banners of the KKE in the Acropolis against the war in Gaza

Early this morning (19/9), members of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and its youth wing (KNE) staged a protest at the Acropolis—one of the world’s most iconic monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—unfurling large banners demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza. 

The KKE and KNE members unfurled massive banners in Greek and English calling to “Stop the genocide”, “No cooperation with the murderous Israeli state” and demanding “Freedom for Palestine.” Hundreds of participants gathered with red flags, turning the historic site into a stage for global solidarity.

 

Israeli communists condemn strikes against Hamas leaders in Qatar: "An assassination of the negotiations"

Israel attempted to assassinate Hamas leaders on Tuesday, September 9, while they were meeting in Doha, Qatar’s capital. The attack was carried out by Israel Air Force fighter jets and included 10 strikes on the target.

According to Channel 12 reports, Israel informed the US of its intention to strike Hamas leaders in Qatar when the jets were already in the air. 

In a comment regarding the attack, the left-wing coalition Hadash (Democratic Front for Peace and Equality) stresses out:

In a video posted on social media, Ofer Cassif, a Knesset member for the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash) and Communist Party of Israel cadre, sends a powerful message against the genocide that is being waged against the people of Gaza by the Netanyahu Government. 

"There is no war in Gaza. There is a Holocaust in Gaza. Israel is facilitating a holocaust in Gaza", says Cassif and calls for a peaceful, yet unyielding resistance against the genocidal Netanyahu regime. 

KKE leader reaffirms solidarity with the Palestinian people, calls government to cut ties with Israel

"It is unacceptable for the Greek government to support the genocide and starvation of the Palestinian people by supporting a war criminal along with its allies. It must stop now, immediately, and cease all cooperation with this murderous state. A free Palestinian state within the 1967 borders must be recognized, based on the unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament in 2015", Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), stated during a rally held on Sunday 25 August in Athens.

 

The two faces of Israel from a Marxist perspective

The recent mass demonstrations held in Israel against the heinous plans of the Netanyahu Government to takeover Gaza remind us that societies aren't monolithic entities; they contain conflicting forces within them. 

Anyone with a fundamental perception of dialectics can understand the massive contradictions that exist in modern capitalist societies, including the Israeli one.

The weekend 9/10 August edition of “Rizospastis”, Organ of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), published an interview with Reema Hazan, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Israel (Maki) and head of its International Relations Section. Read below the interview translated into English:

“Last night (Thursday) the Israeli cabinet  approved the beginning of a full-scale occupation of the Gaza Strip. We warn of the continuation of ethnic cleansing, the war of extermination and the further destruction of Gaza,” Hazan says and continues:

After the Israeli far-right cabinet last night approved a plan for conquering Gaza City and fully occupying Gaza Strip, the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash) slams it as a “disaster that will lead to the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, Israeli hostages and soldiers.”  

 

Hadash calls it a "war crime" and "a total war for the destruction of the Palestinian people, for ethnic cleansing and state terrorism".

 

KKE: What should be the perspective of the anti-war and anti-imperialist movement?

Excerpt from an article published in Rizospastis, the organ of the CC of the KKE, on 2-3 August 2025, under the title “Aspects of the struggle within the movement against imperialist war and in solidarity with the Palestinian people”: 

Some argue that the war can be stopped or prevented from escalating. For example, Israel may back down under pressure from international solidarity or from actions such as boycotting Israeli products and companies.

Protests calling for a Gaza cease-fire, against the far-right government and for hostage release deal took place across Israel on Saturday, August 2, after Hamas released a series of videos showing emaciated Israeli hostages earlier this week. 

The main protest in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square began with a screening of a video showing Israeli hostage Evyatar David. According to the Hostage and Missing Families Forum, 60,000 demonstrators participated in the rally.
