Anti-Cuba session at European Parliament turns into fiasco after KKE intervention

The joint session of the European Parliament’s Committees on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and Human Rights (DROI), convened under the pretext of discussing “the human rights situation in Cuba,” was intended to become yet another parade of opponents and subversive elements hostile to the Cuban people, including the notorious provocateur José Daniel Ferrer, thus providing further justification for imperialist aggression against Cuba.

 

In reality, however, the session turned into a fiasco. Following interventions by the European Parliamentary Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), as well as other MEPs, the anti-Cuban propaganda received a direct response. The anti-communist “guests,” who supposedly defend human rights, lost their composure and even demanded punitive measures from the European Parliament against opposing views.

KKE MEP Kostas Papadakis stressed in his speech:

“It is an outrageous provocation for you to invoke ‘human rights violations’ in Cuba while once again gathering here every opponent and subversive agent against the Cuban people, all the while deliberately ignoring the massive violation of the human rights of an entire people. Because it is the criminal US blockade, reinforced by the new unacceptable sanctions decree, that condemns the Cuban people to severe and inhumane shortages of food, electricity, medicine and fuel.

Who exactly are you to speak? You here in the European Parliament and the EU, who at every opportunity praise the so-called ‘progress in human rights’ in the oil monarchies of the Gulf?

The peoples of the world demonstrate every day their solidarity with the heroic struggle of the Cuban people. Thousands marched in Athens in support of Cuba. Because despite economic strangulation, threats and preparations for possible military operations, the Cuban people do not surrender.

We demand the immediate lifting of the unacceptable blockade and the immediate removal of Cuba from the list of ‘state sponsors of terrorism.’

Hands off Cuba! The justice and solidarity of the peoples will prevail!”.
