An intervention in the debate on U.S. threats and the escalating rivalry with the EU centered on Greenland was made by the European Parliament Group of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) during the plenary session in Strasbourg. The Party’s MEP, Kostas Papadakis, stated the following in his speech:
“We condemn the unacceptable threats of military intervention by the United States, NATO ally Denmark, and the EU against Greenland, following their military intervention against the people of Venezuela, as well as the threats against the Cuban people and the planned U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran.

This is not a peculiarity of Trump; rather, the United States considers the Arctic a ‘vital space’ in its geopolitical competition with capitalist Russia and China.
The contradictions of interests between the EU, Germany, and France — based on tariffs and the harmful-for-the-peoples EU–U.S. agreement — expose all the bourgeois parties that claimed that Denmark’s participation in the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), as well as NATO’s enlargement to Sweden and Finland, would guarantee security and peace in the region.
The only way forward is the independent struggle of the peoples against every imperialist intervention and alliance, against blackmail and rivalries. No border changes, no military involvement, no sacrifices for the profits and interests of the few.”
