These bourgeois Greek parties, which have elevated Saudi Arabia to the status of a strategic ally of the country, dare to speak about democracy. In fact, part of the Greek armed forces is stationed there, operating a Patriot missile battery in the service of Euro-Atlantic plans. In Saudi Arabia, the judicial system is based on Sharia (Islamic law), and punishments include flogging, amputations, and executions. More than 300 people were executed in 2024 —the highest number ever recorded. Women are treated as inferior and subjected to strict restrictions, while life is hell for thousands of migrants, victims of oppression and brutal exploitation. Any criticism of the regime is met with severe penalties, and strict censorship is imposed on what the media are allowed to write or broadcast.
It is a complete farce for all these people to be talking about democracy!
The KKE, which from the very first moment condemned the US imperialist military intervention in Venezuela, has consistently stood by the working class and the people of Venezuela, as well as by the Communist Party of Venezuela, condemning anti-worker and anti-democratic measures taken against them. At the same time, however, the KKE has never judged one or another president, organization, or party according to the criteria used by the imperialists. NATO, the EU, and capitalist power in general —along with its mechanisms— operate on one set of criteria, while the KKE operates on another. As emphasized in the Joint Statement of the Communist and Workers’ Parties on developments in that country —put forward by the Communist Party of Venezuela and co-signed by the KKE along with many other Communist Parties:
“The real objective was never the defence of human rights, nor the supposed fight against drug trafficking, nor the rhetoric of ‘democracy’, all of which serve merely as pretexts. The true aim has been the direct imposition of the geopolitical and economic interests of US imperialism in Venezuela and the region, within the context of the struggle among capitalist powers for control over energy resources, strategic raw materials, trade routes, and markets”.
What failed in Venezuela and why it was targeted by the USA
Since there are also those who, in light of recent developments in Venezuela, once again revive the argument that “socialism failed —this time in Venezuela”, we refer to the extensive interview given late last year by Dimitris Koutsoumbas, GS of the CC of the KKE, to journalist Panos Haritos. Among other things, he was asked whether “the Chávez socialist model failed, or whether alternative proposals are powerless against the mechanisms of control of the global economy”.
In his response, the GS of the CC of the KKE noted:
“The essence lies in the fact that capitalism, like any socio-economic system, has ironclad laws. Even if you rename capitalism ‘21st-century socialism’ and give a few crumbs more to some sections of the workers, you cannot escape its relentless and exploitative nature. Chávez, and even more obviously Maduro after him, may have spoken grand words about ‘revolution’ and ‘socialism’, but since the time of Marx and Lenin, it has been known that revolution requires profound socio-political changes, which never took place in Venezuela. You cannot make an omelette without breaking eggs. Furthermore, since the country and its economy operate on a profit basis, since labour power continues to be a commodity, and since the country is deeply integrated into the global capitalist economy and trapped in a vice of fierce competition among the strongest players, nothing will change no matter how often the word ‘anti-imperialism’ is invoked”.
The GS of the CC of the KKE also addressed the question of “Why is Trump threatening Caracas?” focusing on the targeting of Venezuela and noting the following:
“A look at the recent US National Security Strategy gives us the answer, which lies in the so-called ‘restoration’ of American pre-eminence in the Western Hemisphere. Who has shaken this pre-eminence? Evidence shows that China is rapidly strengthening its commercial footprint, especially in South America. It is now South America’s leading trading partner and second only to the US across Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Thus, the US Security Strategy also signals a transition for the American continent to an even more dangerous phase of competition for supremacy in the international imperialist system”.
La anécdota sobre la restauración de la democracia en Venezuela
Los argumentos ridículos que utilizó el gobierno para justificar la intervención imperialista estadounidense en Venezuela son sinfín. Así, funcionarios del gobierno, sin ruborizarse, afirman que “quien no esté de acuerdo con las acciones de EE.UU., está con el dictador Maduro”. En la misma línea que los representantes del partido de derecha gobernante, ND, también están los representantes de otras fuerzas burguesas y socialdemócratas. Por ejemplo, el ex primer ministro y ex presidente del partido “de izquierdas” SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, en su mensaje sobre Venezuela, no dejó de usar uno de los pretextos de la intervención estadounidense: la “democracia”, señalando que esta “se está poniendo a prueba en Venezuela”... Y todo esto cuando incluso el presidente estadounidense Donald Trump, un “pacificador”, sin rodeos ni pretensiones, destaca que EE.UU. está interesado en controlar el petróleo venezolano.
Incluso hablan de democracia los partidos burgueses griegos que han declarado a Arabia Saudí un aliado estratégico del país. De hecho, una sección de las fuerzas armadas griegas tiene su base en dicho país y una batería de misiles Patriot opera al servicio de los planes euroatlánticos. En Arabia Saudí, el sistema judicial se basa en la sharia (ley islámica) y los castigos incluyen flagelación, amputaciones y ejecuciones. Más de 300 personas fueron ejecutadas en 2024, el mayor número de ejecuciones en la historia. Las mujeres son tratadas como subordinadas y están sujetas a estrictas restricciones, mientras que la vida es un infierno para miles de inmigrantes, víctimas de la opresión y la explotación brutal. Cualquier crítica al régimen conlleva severas sanciones y se impone una intensa censura sobre lo que escriben o transmiten los medios de comunicación. ¡Es ridículo que todos ellos hablen de democracia!
El KKE, que desde el primer momento condenó la intervención militar imperialista de EE.UU. en Venezuela, siempre ha apoyado a la clase obrera y al pueblo venezolano, al Partido Comunista de Venezuela, condenando las medidas antiobreras y antidemocráticas contra ellos. Sin embargo, el KKE nunca ha juzgado a ningún presidente, organización o partido con los mismos criterios que los imperialistas. La OTAN, la UE, las potencias capitalistas y sus mecanismos en general tienen criterios diferentes de los que tiene el KKE. Como también se subraya en el Comunicado Conjunto de los Partidos Comunistas y Obreros sobre la situación en este país, propuesto por el Partido Comunista de Venezuela y firmado por el KKE junto con numerosos partidos comunistas: “El verdadero objetivo nunca ha sido la defensa de los derechos humanos, ni una supuesta lucha contra el narcotráfico, ni la “democracia” que se utilizan como pretextos, sino la imposición directa de los intereses geopolíticos y económicos del imperialismo estadounidense sobre Venezuela y la región, en el contexto de la disputa entre las potencias capitalistas por el control de los recursos energéticos, las materias primas estratégicas, rutas comerciales y mercados”.
¿Qué fracasó en Venezuela y por qué se encontró en el punto de mira de EE.UU.?
También hay quienes aprovechan los acontecimientos en Venezuela y vuelven a plantear el argumento de que supuestamente "el socialismo ha fracasado", esta vez en Venezuela. Por tanto, haremos una referencia a la larga entrevista con el periodista Panos Jaritos, que Dimitris Koutsoumpas, Secretario General del Comité Central del KKE, dio a finales del año pasado. En esta, entre otras cosas, se le preguntó si "el modelo socialista de Chávez fracasó o las propuestas alternativas son ineficaces ante los mecanismos de control de la economía global".
En su respuesta, el Secretario General del CC del KKE destacó: “La esencia radica en que el capitalismo, como cualquier sistema socioeconómico, tiene leyes inquebrantables. Aunque si alguien bautice al capitalismo como “socialismo del siglo XXI” y dé unas migajas más a algunos sectores de trabajadores, no puede escapar de su naturaleza implacable y explotadora. Chávez y, por supuesto, más evidentemente Maduro a continuación, decían grandes palabras sobre la “revolución” y el “socialismo”, pero desde la época de Marx y Lenin se sabe que la revolución requiere profundos cambios sociopolíticos, que nunca se produjeron en Venezuela. Es como querer hacer una tortilla sin romper huevos. Además, desde el momento en que el país y su economía funcionan en base al beneficio, cuando la fuerza de trabajo sigue siendo una mercancía, cuando el país está tan interconectado con la economía capitalista mundial y está en medio de rivalidades de actores más poderosos, por muchas veces que uno repita la palabra “antiimperialismo”, esto no servirá de nada...”
El Secretario General del CC del KKE respondió a la pregunta “¿por qué Trump amenaza a Caracas?” centrándose en el ataque a Venezuela y señaló lo siguiente:
“Un vistazo a la reciente 'Estrategia de Seguridad Nacional' de EE.UU. nos da la respuesta, que se encuentra en el llamado “restablecimiento” de la hegemonía estadounidense en el hemisferio occidental. ¿Quién ha socavado esta hegemonía? Los datos indican que China está reforzando rápidamente su presencia comercial, especialmente en Sudamérica. Actualmente es el principal socio comercial de Sudamérica y el segundo, después de EE.UU., en su conjunto en Centroamérica, Sudamérica y el Caribe. Así, la 'Estrategia de Seguridad de los Estados Unidos' marca también para el continente americano el paso a una fase aún más peligrosa para los pueblos de la competencia por el liderazgo en el sistema imperialista mundial.”
