PCPE: Don't be fooled by PSOE government's "good will" gestures on refugees

The Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE) salutes the offer made by the Government to accept in the port of Valencia the ship “Aquarius”, which has more than 600 people on board, among them more than one hundred children and pregnant women as well, and has evidenced once again the reactionary nature of the European Union, unable to give a humanitarian response to the denial of the governments of Italy and Malta to allow the arrival of such ship to their coasts.

Since the triumph of the motion of no confidence which led to make up the government of Pedro Sánchez, our Party has been warning that several measures addressed to strengthen socialdemocracy in the government and to try to demobilise the working class and the people would be immediately set. The announcement made this morning, accepting ship “Aquarius”, is the first one of that series of propagandistic gestures.

The immigration policy of the Spanish Government will not change in any essential matter. The Government of PSOE will keep on applying a deeply class-oriented politics in the management of the migratory phenomenon, as it shares the imperialist policies that cause the massive flows of population expelled from the countries of origin by the imperialist war, the pillaging of their natural resources and the extreme poverty the international control of monopolies causes.

Border fences on Melilla and Ceuta, including the three-dimensional towrope installed by the government of Zapatero and the concertinas will go on wreaking havoc on the thousands of people who try to arrive to Europe. Hot returns will be still made in our borders, the practical denial of the right of asylum, the overcrowding and the violation of human rights on immigration detentions and the capitalist over-exploitation of the thousands and thousands of immigrant workers who work in country with or without papers. The Immigration Law will still be in effect to protect the “Fortress Europe” of capital and war, and the Spanish troops will still be deployed, which guarantee the plundering the Spanish monopolies practice worldwide throughout 11 imperialist missions.

Nobody shall be fooled by the gestures politics of the new Government. We demand the immediate licence of the permanent living and work permit for all the people on board the Aquarius; we demand those same rights for the ensemble of the immigrant population in our country to whom all kind of permits are denied, condemning them to marginalisation; we demand the access to health care without any kind of restriction; we demand the immediate closure of the immigration detentions and the repeal of the Immigration Law; we demand full respect to the right of asylum, the end of hot returns and the withdrawal of the border fences in Ceuta and Melilla; we demand the withdrawal of the Spanish troops on imperialist missions.

No capitalist Government will respect human rights. Nobody shall allow to be fooled by the gestures politics of the new Government.

Workers of the world, unite!
