KKE slams Tsipras government's deal with FYROM over the Macedonia name dispute

In a statement issued today, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece sharply criticized the government's recent deal over the Macedonia name issue

More specifically, the KKE statement writes that "the agreement between the governments of Greece and FYROM was achieved with the open intervention of the US, NATO and the EU, it has their stamp and was signed on the basis of the deadlines and timetables set by these organisations so that the euroatlantic integration of the western Balkans can proceed".

"This is clear from the text of the agreement", points out the statement of the Communist Party and adds that "it is no coincidence that the first who rushed to welcome [the agreement] were the State Department, NATO and the EU".

The KKE also denounces the fact the Greek government has accepted the terms "Macedonian" for the citizenship and language of "Northern Macedonia" thus allowing open the window of nationalism and irredentism.

"It is an agreement that cannot provide a solution for the benefit of the Greek people, for the people of neighboring country and all the people of region" writes the KKE statement.

Furthermore, the KKE points out that "the government's allegations that this agreement will supposedly ensure peace, cooperation and stability in the Balkans and the wider region are totally false, misleading and untrustworthy".

The Communist Party gives immense importance to the role of the imperialist alliances of NATO and the EU in the region: "It is deliberately ignored that NATO and the EU are factors of insecurity and borders' change, incitement of nationalism and irredentisms" writes the statement.

"The SYRIZA-ANEL government", states the KKE "has evolved into the best flag-bearer of NATO and EU plans in the region, for the sake of parts of the Greek capital which claim bigger profits from the redivision of the region, from the robbery and exploitation of the people. It is the other side of the domestic antipeople policy which crashes the income and the rights of the people".
