Following the victory of the counterrevolution and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Russian leadership under Boris Yeltsin proceeded to harsh economic reforms (known as “shock therapy”), thus causing, among others, inflation, unemployment, and severe public discontent.

Within this context, a growing conflict between Yeltsin and the Supreme Soviet (Parliament) over economic policy and division of powers began to unravel. The Supreme Soviet resisted capitalist reforms and pushed back against the increasing presidential authority.

The attempt to vilify Lenin in capitalist Russia: On the occasion of the reactionary film "The Mummy"

A new “documentary”, "The Mummy," which premiered in Moscow on June 26, has ignited a firestorm of debate surrounding the legacy of Vladimir Lenin and his final resting place.

Produced by the fervently religious Christian channel “Spas” (Saviour), the film argues for the destruction of Lenin's Mausoleum, portraying it as a satanic temple and a bleeding wound on the soul of the Russian nation. The “documentary” presents a fantastical narrative, linking the Bolsheviks and their leader to a range of dark forces, including Egyptian pharaohs, Babylonian ziggurats, and Masonic conspiracies aimed at global domination by Satan.

The two faces of Israel from a Marxist perspective

By Nikos Mottas

The recent mass demonstrations held in Israel against the heinous plans of the Netanyahu Government to takeover Gaza remind us that societies aren't monolithic entities; they contain conflicting forces within them.

Anyone with a fundamental perception of dialectics can understand the massive contradictions that exist in modern capitalist societies, including the Israeli one.

European Communist Action: 80 years since the US imperialist crime in Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Statement by the European Communist Action on the 80th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki:

The explosion of atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki – crimes which should never be forgotten - demonstrated to the world the ruthless nature of U.S. imperialism and the terrible and devastating consequences of the use of nuclear weapons. The U.S. decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima (6 August 1945) and Nagasaki (9 August 1945) were calculated demonstrations of imperialist power aimed not just at Japan but at the Soviet Union and the global communist movement.

Excerpt from an article published in Rizospastis, the organ of the CC of the KKE, on 2-3 August 2025, under the title “Aspects of the struggle within the movement against imperialist war and in solidarity with the Palestinian people”:

Some argue that the war can be stopped or prevented from escalating. For example, Israel may back down under pressure from international solidarity or from actions such as boycotting Israeli products and companies.

By Nikos Mottas

It was 5 August 1895, at 10:30 pm, when the heart of Friedrich Engels, the man who, alongside Karl Marx, co-formed the revolutionary worldview of the working class, stopped beating. He was 75 years old.

A leading figure of the world's proletariat and a pioneer of the international communist movement, Engels contributed immensely to the foundation of scientific communism, the theory that illuminated that path for the liberation of the working class from the shackles of capitalist oppression and exploitation.

France is teaching us a lesson, but what can we truly learn from it?

The following article was published in Rizospastis, the organ of the CC of the KKE, on 26–27 July, 2025:

First, let’s start with a necessary reminder: A year ago, France held parliamentary elections. Although Le Pen’s “National Rally” received three million more votes (1), the “New Popular Front” (2) won the most seats in the second round. In fact, the New Popular Front lost two million votes between the first and second rounds, by withdrawing its own candidates in many regions and favouring the party of French President E. Macron. Consequently, Macron’s party avoided the resounding defeat predicted by the European election results (3).

KKE blasts Greek government's despicable attempt to suppress popular protests against Israel’s crimes

KKE MP C. Katsotis holding a photo of a malnourished child in Gaza.
The New Democracy government is escalating its attacks on and repression of popular protests denouncing Israeli crimes in Gaza and the West Bank. These protests express solidarity with the Palestinian people and demand an end to all support from the Greek government for the murderous state of Israel as well as an end to all relations with it (military, political and economic).

It has even gone so far as to activate the anti-racism law, which confirms the KKE’s warnings that, once voted in Parliament, it would ultimately turn against the people and their movement.
