Statement of the KKE on Trump-Putin Summit: The imperialist war in Ukraine continues and escalates

In a statement concerning the Trump-Putin Summit in Alaska, the Press Office of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), stresses out the following:

“The Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska was part of the imperialist bargaining based not on the interests of the peoples, the Ukrainian and Russian people who are paying the price of the war, but on the interests of the US and Russian monopolies, the expansion of their business activity and the increase in their profitability.

Behind the big words about “progress in the negotiations” emerges the harsh reality. The imperialist war in Ukraine continues and escalates. The competition for the division of Ukraine and the world continues with the victims being the peoples who are being slaughtered on the front for interests hostile to them.

Even if at some point there is a compromise, it will be a temporary and fragile one, integrated, among other things, into the US tactic of turning more attention to other parts of the planet and burdening the EU with greater costs for maintaining this compromise. This is why, in the context of the negotiations, contradictions and competing initiatives are manifested between the USA and the EU.

In any case, the causes of the conflict will remain, since imperialist arrangements do not eliminate the causes of the war that the rotten capitalist system generates, especially in a period when the struggle for primacy in the global capitalist system is intensifying.

The wars, the bargains and the temporary arrangements of the bourgeois classes are ultimately paid for by the peoples with rivers of blood, but also with economic sacrifices such as the 800 billion euros that are burdened on the peoples of Europe for the needs of the war economy and preparation.

Against the false expectations and illusions cultivated by the apologists of capitalism, our people need to strengthen the struggle against the imperialist war, the involvement of Greece in NATO plans and all kinds of bargains, the extremely expensive armaments, as well as against the policy of the New Democracy government that is at the forefront of these criminal plans. To strengthen its own independent struggle, for the country's exit from wars with the people at the helm of power, building mutually beneficial relations with other peoples."
