Dimitris Koutsoumbas: The KKE keeps its arms open to progressive people, leftists who refuse to compromise

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) "keeps its arms open to progressive people, leftists who refuse to compromise" with the systemic 'swamp', Party Secretary General Dimitris Koutsoumbas told "Efimerida ton Syntakton" (Efsyn) newspaper in an interview published on Saturday.

Referring to the May 21 parliamentary elections, he said that "there are many responding to our invitation, and many honest people who have joined our ballots, former deputies, Eurodeputies, and officials and members of SYRIZA, ANTARSYA and LAE," naming the main opposition party and other leftist parties.

Koutsoumbas said "the system does not need 'two of the same' parties - on the contrary, the differences among parties in the system provide a breather to the system, in order to reemerge after very government change and remain unassailable."

He cited ruling New Democracy (ND), was punished by the voters in 2015 and inadvertently 'rinsed out' by SYRIZA following it, contributing to its return again in 2019. In addition, he said, ND includes in its ballots the government spokesman of its latest government, while SYRIZA includes the government spokesman of a previous ND government. ND includes former ultra-nationalist LAOS officers, while SYRIZA includes the former regional governor of Western Macedonia with his far-right and antisemitic viewpoints, Koutsoumbas said.

Concerning the hypocritical calls for "electoral alliances" by SYRIZA's leader Alexis Tsipras, Dimitris Koutsoumbas said: "We are not going to make alliances with those who have not only been carried, but have become one with the "swamp" of the system of exploitation, NATO, and the memorandums. We will fight them and their "swamp"."

The Greek voters, he said, should vote for neither ND or SYRIZA, but ensure that the government formed after elections "is as weak a government as possible, and this can only happen with a strong Communist Party."
