Nikos Sofianos, the KKE's candidate for Athens mayor

The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, Nikos Sofianos, is the candidate of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) for the mayorship of the Greek capital in October 8th regional and municipal elections.

An experienced KKE cadre, with a long political and social activity, Sofianos has been a member of the Athens Municipal Council since 2010 under the banner of the KKE-supported "Athens People's Rally".

The 13th Congress of KNE kicked off in Athens

Under the slogan “We are the spark that will turn darkness into light”, the 13th Congress of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), the youth wing of the KKE, began its works on Friday 10 February in Athens.

The opening of the Congress took place at the KKE headquarters in Perissos, with the participation of 28 Communist Youths and Anti-imperialist groups from all over the world. Among the attendees were representatives from the Embassies of Cuba, Vietnam and the Palestinian Authority, MPs and MEPs of the KKE, the President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), representatives of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), trade unionists, professors, journalists, people of arts, athletes, etc.

Massive internationalist rally of the KKE in Volos sends powerful anti-imperialist message

A large political event, organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), took place on Saturday afternoon in the city of Volos. Thousands of KKE members and friends, workers, young men and women, flocked the central promenade of the city, holding banners and flags and shouting anti-imperialist slogans. 

The event marked the culmination of the festivities of the 31st Anti-imperialist Camp of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) which takes place in the seaside village of Nies, Central Greece.

KNE two-day camp in Germany held successfully

A successful two-day camp of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) in Friedrichroda, close to Erfurt, Germany, was concluded on Saturday 11 June with a political event, 902.gr portal reports.

The event began with the reading of anti-war poems by Giannis Ritsos, Nazim Hikmet and Bertolt Brecht. A greeting message was delivered by Alexandros Matsigkos, Secretary of the KNE Sectoral Organization in Central Europe, who stressed out that the two-day camp is the culmination of the recent activity of the KNE organizations in Germany and thanked the foreign delegations for their important contribution.

Brussels: Event against EU anti-communism to be organized by KNE on November 9-11

With a three-day event, which will take place in Brussels from 9 to 11 November, the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) gives a powerful response to the European Union's anti-communist resolutions and fiestas. 

According to Rizospastis, the program includes visits in a Nazi concentration camp, walks in places of historical significance in Brussels, as well as an event in the European Parliament.

KNE Festival: Massive attendance surpassed all expectations - Report from Athens

ATHENS- With an overwhelming, massive participation of people of every age, this year's KNE-Odigitis Festival surpasssed any expectations. 

Dedicated to the 100 years of the Communist Party of Greece and the 50 years since the foundation of its youth wing, KNE, the festival took place at Athens' Tritsis Park, on 20-22 of September. 

Inspired by the lyrics of a poem written by Yannis Ritsos, the festival's slogan was “it's been a long road so far. A difficult road! A certain road. Now this road is yours to follow”.

Applause and respect for Mikis Theodorakis at the KNE-Odigitis Festival

Under the sounds of "Romiosini"- one of Greek music's greatest compositions- and a warm applause thousands of people welcomed Mikis Theodorakis at the KNE-Odigitis festival, yesterday evening at Tritsis Park in Athens. The legendary composer- also a political figure whose activity left its stamp on the Greek left- was welcomed by the Secretary General of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas and the Secretary of the Communist Youth (KNE) Nikos Abatielos.
